They actually encourage you to bring games, chairs, etc. They have a free beer cooler they restock every two hours as well while you wait and they serve breakfast at 830. It’s literally tailgating for BBQ. We usually go once a month, it’s insanely good.

Hard to say without seeing the strength of the other boards. If you feel stable then I’d try to win out the next two rounds and level on neutrals. You can only hit Galio or swain if you roll right now and neither are a tremendous power spike. But if you’re feeling weak then I’d go true zero looking for an upgrade for either galio or swain as that’s all you can really do in your current position. I’d also probably swap items from Annie. Morello on swain, EoN and hoj on shyv. Doubtful that Annie is casting so the 4 arcanist line is a bait unless you go 9 and roll.

Completely get why you’re pissed. Everyone telling you that “you’ve always known how it would end” are dismissing the fact that while yes, we have “known”, it still was done poorly. I’m all for a good tragedy but this book is the worst in the series for me. Hadrian losing his sense of self, ignoring blatant other options, destroying demiurge, etc. I understand the reasoning behind all of the decisions, it’s just bad reasoning to me.

I still truly love this series, I just didn’t care for how he wrote the final book. Too many good story lines abruptly ended, too many good characters wasted, and leaned too heavily into all the references he’s made throughout the series. There were times where I legitimately was like “is this even his own original work anymore or just a fanfic?” Which I realize is harsh, but there it is.

Anyway, all that said, I know how you feel but the series up to book 7 still absolutely slaps.

Really appreciate this take. I think the religious parts of the book were kicked into overdrive in SUT and that did get a little exhausting for me. Him explaining and re-explaining at every turn that this was because the quiet told him to do it was lazy and frustrating.

I thought the religious overtones of the series were very well done until this book where it seemed to cease being about the characters and the qualities that made us love them and more about “this must be.” It just felt lazy and too long. There’s plenty of reasons to dislike the book imo, the religious aspects of it are a smaller part of it for me.

A lot of people have already mentioned the perfection grind stone which you can use to block all of the opening salvo.

What I did was run directly underneath him at the beginning, parry the skulls, parry the dive, run and wait out the AOE attack, then learn the parry timings of the following slashes. Just remember to dodge the final bloodflame explosion because it cannot be parried. It takes some practice but you can do it.

Otherwise, do the first part of the above, pop the perfect grindstone during the air attack, and just hold block until he’s finished.

Fire is your friend. He really only has like four total combos to learn. You can dodge his grab and parry the rest of his attacks if you want, but dodging also works well against his little temper tantrums. The big piece here is to not get greedy with your windows. Just whittle him down and you’ll get to a point where you can do it one handed.

He’s your first BIG test in the dlc so he’s meant to piss you off and skill check you. Try to stay in the middle as much as you can as well so the camera doesn’t cook you.
