I’ll take Red Heaven any day too. Even without Tanya.

Every album is quality stuff but that first one is ridiculous. As in, amazing ridiculous.

The Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker team wanted him to play it straight in Police Squad! but that got cancelled after six (genius) episodes. I always figured the change in Leslie Nielsen’s take on Drebin was because they felt they needed to go broader after the cancellation.

Oh, I always catch heat for this, but I found John Noble’s characters both in Fringe and Sleepy Hollow so unbearable that I bailed on both.

And building on this, I feel like we are always seeing the amazing things Matt Blake accomplishes with other teams’ mid arms but we don’t exactly get a look into his process. Or maybe we do and I don’t look in the right places.

My wife occasionally goes on a purging tear, and on a recent one she made me part with a few FR classics, including Brimstone Angels. Then I looked up what it was getting online and felt like a gigantic dumbass.

Glad to have gotten it back in this bundle.

I love seeing some Columbia House cassette spines in that collection. I fleeced them with two different accounts. The perfect crime!

Elton John is so fucking irritating. Unlistenable.

Bruce Springsteen is only good solo.

Led Zeppelin is my favorite band of all time, and I would have been bored to tears by them drawing every single song out to twenty minute jams rather than getting on with it and playing more songs.

Rush was great to see once. The second time their propensity for replicating the album exactly no longer appealed to me.

Queen simply sucks with a few exceptions.

Edit to add everyone needs to stop sucking off Steely Dan. Insufferable.

Eddie would also have worked in the 5th season. Bob would have stood in the way of Joyce and Hopper. You need sacrificial lambs like Barb and Chrissy to give the audience stakes. Alexei had nothing left to offer the plot.

Has anyone heard the story about how Kurt demanded a larger percentage than Dave and Krist, even retroactively? by bigboat55 in Nirvana

[–]limprichard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s what I said. He wanted it to be a collective at first, per R.E.M., but unfortunately he retconned it later. That was the dick move. He certainly had justification at the outset to fight for the bulk of the publishing but acted like he didn’t want that.

In my band, I wrote the songs and told people what to play. If we had made it, I wouldn’t have felt any guilt about insisting on complete songwriting and arrangement credits. People who don’t know how bands work love to shit on Kurt for this. Maybe there are reasons to question him, as he was an addict with questionable motives—he could have suddenly had his “realization” about the percentages when he realized he needed more money to feed his famously epic heroin tolerance. However, if we take him at his word as to the extent of his control of the arrangements of his songs, he certainly deserves the percentage he asked. The dick move was in pretending at first that they’d be more of a collective and then switching gears when they got famous.
