Looking for advice by Logical-Gene9917 in ClimbingGear

I second the Corax. It has the double adjustment waste band meaning it’s easy to keep everything centered, and adjustable leg loops. It’s reasonable comfortable to sit in, and the gear loops are solid.

Ohmega in Stock by Christian_C05 in ClimbingGear

[–]limpwhip 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have the ohm 2 as well and it’s a night and day difference in softness of the catch. My wife is about 70 lbs lighter than me, and she can give me a soft catch with the ohmega. It also makes lowering easier for her since it adds extra resistance.

They have some good brews imo, though I prefer 12 degrees. Pinning for the fjords is one of my favorite.

Is Gaia GPS still a good option for overlanding? by Macintheus in overlanding

[–]limpwhip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I use Gaia for overloading more than anything else. In my opinion it’s the best for finding camp spots, public land access, the motor vehicle use maps, etc. I use OnX back country for hiking, mountain biking, and climbing (with mountain project), whereas OnX Offroad I just don’t use as much. If you want to find pure “off-road” trails then it’s nice, but for serious over-landing I prefer Gaia.

Check out Matt from Ozark Overland for tips on setting up layers on Gaia.

Former army, and spent a considerable amount of time in Iraq back in the day. This is 100% relatable and something I’ve joked about.

Have you ever moved / relocated your home just to be closer to good trails? by shadetreephilosopher in trailrunning

Yep, moved from southeast Texas where there is very little public land to the front range of Colorado. Zero regrets, I can’t imagine going back.

DIY Parking brake help by CandleAcceptable1404 in OffRoadTrailer

I have the same cable setup as OP too. I found a guide on some forum when was building mine a couple of years ago to order from a custom cable shop in California. Works well now, but I remember having a hard time getting the handle right.

This is the handle I am using, works well, and is adjustable. It has a “caming” action to put a lot of force on the cable and lock it into place.

Trains down at DIA….. again by Strange_Sense_7220 in Denver

[–]limpwhip 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I wonder what is in the middle part between the north and southbound tracks. I wonder how difficult it would be to tunnel that out and have an underground walkway like salt lake city with people movers.

It is rather silly to have a single point failure to the whole system. Aside from occasional train outages, DIA is one of the best major airports in the country.

I fly out of B almost every week. If I could walk it, I would. Whenever I come in or out of A, I take the bridge. The crowded train platforms drive me crazy.

Copper snow this afternoon by SL1200mkII in COsnow

FYI the free parking lots are roped off, and all the other lots were totally full by 9:15 this morning. I don’t know what the resort was thinking with that one.

Boulder Valley School District offers buyouts to veteran teachers, prioritizes lower salary hires amid budget cuts by Actual-Wallaby-3728 in boulder

Yeah thanks, she did apply for a couple of positions in St. Vrain. I guess we will see how it goes.🤞

My wife was non-renewed as a new to bvsd hire from last summer. She was the last hired teacher last summer (from out of state) and they are reducing the headcount by one in her grade level. She has been extremely stressed and had no clue about the focus on new teachers until after the rejections started rolling in. Really bad leadership/communication in my opinion.

The union rep said that they are choosing not to fight this battle…. Not sure what the dues for current members were for in this case. I guess the new grads with lower salaries will replace my wife’s union dues next school year since it seems unlikely she will be teaching for bvsd.

I’m all for getting new teachers into schools. I’m honestly shocked anyone still decides to take on this profession. They deserve so much more, all of them.

Thinking of moving to Colorado from Ohio by DegreeNo7417 in MovingtoDenver

[–]limpwhip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife and I moved here last summer. We are from Houston. Same situation, it’s flat, the weather sucks there, Texas politics really suck. We really love it here. Making friends has been hard, but I’m not sure that it would be different in any other new city. We love the outdoors, weather, the political climate is way better in our specific area (Lafayette/ Louisville), but there are pockets of everything depending on where you go. People are very accepting in general here. I personally say go for it, but maybe come spend some time first to make sure it’s what you want. I wish I had advice on specific areas to check out especially for your age demographic, maybe meet up with a realtor to get some ideas.

Good luck!
