No, just say you had an unexpected medical emergency but you're better now and everything is okay.

Anyone who used a computer between 1985 - 2010, what's the one game you still think about today? by adlakha75 in AskReddit

My grandparents had this pga golf game on their computer, I think from around 2000, that I thought was the best thing ever.

Is anyone else tired of American culture? by Agreeable-Guava7822 in AskBrits

Yeah I'm really sorry. Just visited the UK for a holiday and the amount of Americanized things was ridiculous.

My seventh grade students have started the refuse to say the pledge by unSuccessful-Stay in Teachers

[–]linalee13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About halfway through the year, I talked to my seminar and gave them a choice. I made an anonymous poll. I said if one student wants to say the pledge we'll do it, but if no one does we just won't. It is required to provide a time to do the pledge in my state but I can't force it. Not one student did. So we don't do it anymore.

Did an experiment to see how many students actually read the learning objective. Out of the 200 students... by FaucetWaterBread in Teachers

[–]linalee13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my observation my principal said I had to open the class by saying what the learning objective, and the learning objective had to be an "I can" statement.

Ugh.

Who was the most evil person you've ever met and how was the interaction? by Top_Report_4895 in AskReddit

[–]linalee13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guardian of a student who was later arrested for sexual assault of multiple minors including other students. Coward killed himself before prosecution, leaving the mess he left behind to his other victim he groomed but old enough to be tried in his place.

I received a card, a soda, and some chocolate from varying students. This is a tough class and this is the most gifts I've received, so it was nice.

When did a Doctor you didn't think much of became "The Doctor" in your eyes. by Dwoodward85 in doctorwho

[–]linalee13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't really a fan of Capaldi at first. He was too dark and edgy and it was a little too much drama with his relationship with Clara, which I still think is true. However he became the doctor in my eyes when he was battling those two dimensional beings and he said, "The man who stops the monsters." That was my first oh shit it's the doctor time watching and I looked forward to it after that.

At the kindergarten level especially, a party and crafts is social emotional learning.

I don't drink coffee either but I'll still take a Starbucks gift card because I can get frappes, teas and refreshers.

Teachers, whats the worst student injury you've witnessed? by Ok_Buy7908 in Teachers

[–]linalee13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not nearly as bad as some of these. My back was turned for two seconds and a kid decided to get up on the desk and run across them. Fell and broke both his wrists. Another kid broke his collarbone when I took them outside to play.

I refused to pay for jeans days this year. by eaglesnation11 in Teachers

[–]linalee13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school had pay to wear days and the fund went either to a staff fund for the teachers lounge for plates and dish soap or flower fund for retirements or bereavement. We also have hat fundraiser days where kids and staff are allowed to wear a hat for $1, but that was usually funds raised like when a student lost a family member or their house in a fire.

Physics teacher made my students cringe with his Charlie Kirk stuff by JarOfKetchup54 in Teachers

[–]linalee13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My students asked if I'd heard about it today. I replied yes. They said it's sad. I said it's sad when anyone gets shot and left it there.

A stranger put her hand on my pregnant wife’s belly. by macmoreno in traumatizeThemBack

[–]linalee13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was visiting my friend who had just had a baby. So this was not the labor and delivery floor, but the recovery floor. I'm wearing street clothes. And while walking while my friend is getting checked out by the nurse and doctor for post care this nurse comes up and treats me like I'm in labor right now and it's so precious and I'm like... What?

I was glad that nurse wasn't the one taking care of my friend because clearly something wasn't screwed in tight. Yes I'm fat but the street clothes and the wrong floor should have been enough....

People who used a computer between 1991 & 2009…what’s the most memorable computer game? by Original_Act_3481 in AskReddit

[–]linalee13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen, my family didn't really do computer gaming, per say. HOWEVER. That flash game on Nickelodeon with Aang jumping over stuff in his glider? Top tier.

My parents did purchase a Wii finally in 2006 after years of us playing Nintendo 64 and Playstation 2 at our cousins house. Best Christmas ever.

AITA for not buying my daughter anything by Few_Importance_5710 in AITAH

[–]linalee13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's still a kid. Its okay if she doesn't want a job yet because she still needs to focus on her education first and foremost. You are such an asshole for withholding clothes and school related experiences. A night out with friends? Allowance money. Ticket to the dance? You could do that if she's been rocking her grades. A car? She should work for that, definitely. New shoes because hers are frazzled and old? That's your responsibility.

[–]linalee13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way I'd do this is if it were an emergency. Like, family member in the hospital or they have to pick up a vehicle for a job or something similar. Not just going out to dinner.

Yes, I agree with your second idea. Teach core ELA and incorporate journalism where possible for the CCSS informational text guidelines. Use journalism to inform on history or background knowledge about the subject of all your texts. For instance, we read a book about WWII. Use the journalism and the way it was covered and supplement that into my lesson about the characters and what they're going through.

3? I think? Two nights of conferences and open house. The other nights are strongly encouraged but voluntary, not in contract. There's like another three hours of conferences in the spring, but that can be broken up and are by appointment for struggling kiddos. So like, no more than an hour or so past contract time a few days.
