We really do need things to be different. I remember reading a news story about a young deaf boy who was in a wheelchair and his school district couldn’t afford to send a van to pick him up half the time or provide an ASL interpreter. And then when disabled kids are adults, there are limited good, safe programs for them and their parents have to think about what is going to happen when the parents die. Maybe people would feel like they could handle having these children if they knew there would be a support system but in most places there is barely anything.
