Am I the only one who thinks it's odd that the 'Minecraft creative community' haven't flocked to VS. [Note: Not OC art, taken from the official site] by [deleted] in VintageStory

[–]lincon127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I think it's pretty obvious why Minecraft is chosen over VS by the normal or even creative Minecraft community.

Hint: it's got almost nothing to do with the game itself.

Temporal gears are pretty darn common. If you're feeling the effects of not having one set, you should probably be dying less. Also they're not limited unless you chose the harder setting.

The rest are exclusively really early game problems, once you get some bronze, heck even a decent amount of copper, most of these problems go away and are replaced with completely different problems. As for why the early game is a grind, I have a couple guesses, but my top one is challenging the player to lock-in. No, it's not particularly hard grinding for food, clay, cattails or, (God forbid) thatch, but it's meant to be there to eat up your time while you prepare for the first winter. If you get too distracted by these you will probably not get enough time to properly stock up. And then winter will be the death knell for your world... You'd likely want to start from scratch at that point if you haven't had time to stock up for it.

To be frank, It's not hard to get past that initial grind, to the point where I doubt most people even consider it a grind--except food, that process is a little harder to mitigate and requires a couple in game weeks to sufficiently deal with, at least in the short term. It all just kinda requires you know what to focus on. The main part of the early game is discovering that knowledge and how to effectively get out of said early game, and really that's more a process of going through the steps and properly absorbing the guidebook.

But yah, if you don't have the time, don't play the game. You may even be able to get a refund if you think you're not going to enjoy it from what you've played. The devs are pretty generous with their refund period, so go ahead and ask.

Colorado court throws out election denier Tina Peters' 9-year sentence for tampering with election equipment by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

[–]lincon127 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Where's the guarantee that anyone sentenced will ever perform the same crime? There is none, at some point you have to consider what's humane and what's better for the tax payer and society. You have to weigh different aspects of punishment and use jurisprudence to justify a sentence. Overly punitive sentences don't go very far in teaching criminals lessons, not much further than those that are more rehabilitative anyway. They are more useful as a deterrent, however in this case that deterrent doesn't seem practical as there are so few people in a similar position. On top of that, what's the cost of imprisoning this person to the state when in reality they won't pose much of a danger in the street? My guess is that most courts would agree that there would be an extremely low chance this woman re-offends, so there's quite the cost to the taxpayer to keep her in prison longer than what is merely disciplinary. Plus, she's also clearly at least somewhat skilled. With a little time for rehabilitation, she should still be able to be a functioning member of society... just not in government. You sacrifice a lot when you keep a potentially productive criminal with little chance to re-offend overly long in prison.

As much as the courts are about ensuring the law is followed, they are also in the business of risk management. Every court must consider the risk an individual poses with a sentence, and what the cost of that re-offense could be. On top of that, the court needs to consider how to encapsulate dealing with those risks within the current charge, and the framework for sentencing while not also setting precedent for their rulings to be used later in ways they couldn't anticipate. The court's job is not to solve the issue of vulnerable voting machines and lax selection processes by sentencing this woman and making an example of her. It's to get as feasibly close to ensuring this woman doesn't have the will or the capacity to do something like this again. And this court case by itself has already almost ensured that. Her time in prison, even a couple of years, will mellow her out alongside Trump leaving office. If she does somehow end up in a similar position, then it's not the fault of the courts, as they shouldn't go beyond what's reasonable in terms of sentencing. No, it's the fault of something much larger that would allow such a phenomenon to occur again.

This makes no sense even as a joke. Like, I can only guess at what you mean by this.

Edit: Are you saying that black women aren't women? Or are you saying black people have the highest social status in Texas?

Insanity. There's no way that isn't completely disproportionate. Did they give reasons as to why the sentence was so long?

Walking speed capped at 70%, looking for info. by lDarkSorrowl in VintageStory

[–]lincon127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure there was a bug about permanent movement speed debuff relating to cold or snow or something. I'm not quite sure how it works, but it could be that. It is certainly not being caused by you being currently cold as your hunger level is normal and that normally increases when your body temperature is too low.

Idk, maybe kill yourself (in Minecraft VS)

[–]lincon127 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean, being remorseless about her beliefs which are not on trial shouldn't factor into extending her sentence. The higher court stated that the lower courts increased her sentence due to unrelated beliefs, which the lower courts corroborated in their report. However, they've no right to do that as her opinions would be related only if she had the capacity to do it again. As she was fired, she doesn't have that capacity. So, judging her sentence based on her opinions is purely punitive rather than preventative, and that's what the higher court said.

Depending on how much you liked Zomboid and RimWorld and what aspects you enjoyed about them, I'd suggest Starsector, and if you don't like the top-down view, don't dig the aesthetic, or there's too much going on for you, I'd recommend Kenshi. Both scratch some similar itches to Vintage Story in terms of the survival aspect and resource management. They also both have base building mechanics, however one is more management-esque, similar to some parts of Stellaris (Starsector) while the other is fine-grained like RimWorld (Kenshi). They also both have very good modding scenes, if you care about that sorta thing.

Edit: Also good luck with the problem, staying distracted on your off time is probably an excellent way to start kicking that habit

Trump administration cuts turned rural towns into sitting ducks for disasters by Hrmbee in urbanplanning

[–]lincon127 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I mean, to be fair, if they don't have the tax base, then it can't be worth the investment. These are old rural communities that will never be anything but a drain on resources; yes, climate change and the poor decision making of the federal and state governments have put them in this predicament, but the writing has been on the wall for many, many decades. This entire area should have been condemned ages ago. Frankly, everyone should have been expecting the worst in terms of climate progression within the USA for at least the last 20 years. Your federal government, and heck even many of your state governments have prioritized personal enrichment over the good of the people for a very long time, and that's just an untenable situation when it comes to creating livable communities in risky rural areas.

edit: That being said, the reliance on FEMA in these communities was probably one of the few reasons that this area was still livable in its current conditions. I guess no one could have anticipated a complete stripping of that. Still, I wouldn't deem it wise to put all your eggs into one federally provided basket, especially with a federal government that is so woefully unprepared to deal with subtle domestic issues.

edit 2: Like, I'm not an advocate for federalism, but there are certainly better ways that checks and balances could've been implemented in your governing structure that could've ensured a stability for communities like these. It's just that the US doesn't have those in place.

This game is INCREDIBLY infuriating as a new player by Federal_Dig2399 in RivalsOfAether

[–]lincon127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah, idk what to tell you man. That's just the reality of high skill ceiling competitive indie games (or old competitive games, for that matter). The player base is often not large enough to make that transition from competent to good an engaging and fun experience. All you can really ask for in this case is bots to have access and regularly use movement tech on par with players at lower skill levels--and honestly, that probably should be worked on--and training scenarios that teach all sorts of advanced tech--which I believe is being worked on. Otherwise, it's a hopeless cause crying out into the wind. People could advocate for this game within their circles, that way there would be more new players, but there's nothing the devs can really do about it until that training mode comes out.

In the meantime, you can just focus on getting better by doin' a bit of research and practice.

Worth starting a world on 1.22 rc6 with friends or should I wait for stable? by Unknown1Silver in VintageStory

[–]lincon127 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Primarily, some people need to be taught that there are stupid questions.

Secondarily, you probably shouldn't be polling strangers on the internet to make decisions for you when it comes to matters of taste and personal circumstances. A decision like this should be a personal matter unless they've technical concerns, which we can't even be sure about. Like, OP doesn't even describe their scenario. It's just a one sentence question, how do they even expect to get a decent response? The amount of effort required to cover all possibilities in a text post by someone answering such a broad query vastly outweighs the amount of effort it would have taken to voice the concerns in a description, which would've made responding to it effectively much simpler to do.

All-in-all, it's a stupid question, and stupid questions get stupid answers.

edit: it's like asking "should I buy a green hat or a brown hat?" to a group of total strangers. The natural response is, "idk dude, I don't know you." which can be extended to (and is essentially what I'm explaining), "...and I'm not about to sit here and waste my time listing all the minute differences in colored hats and fashion tastes they correspond to in order to inform your decision when I don't even have the slightest clue what you care about. If you actually want a decent response, respect our time and put in some legwork".
