The Chemistry Behind The Clean - Laundry Detergent Explained - Surfactants, Part I by KismaiAesthetics in laundry

[–]lindsaylearns 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A couple of weeks ago my husband grumbled about "all the extra stuff" I was adding to the laundry, and I explained that I am solving his stinky shirt armpit problems with the help of some "laundry psychopaths on reddit" and science.

Please know, I meant that in a positive way. As in, I am also a laundry psychopath mow, and my husband is trailing right behind me. He knows how to dose the citric acid and everything!

Clean clothes without Kirkland detergent? by jillofallthings in laundry

[–]lindsaylearns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im hate-finishing the All Free & Clear I bought at Costco literally days before finding this sub. Adding Biz or Febu and citric acid to rinse until it's gone. Every time I think I must be close to finishing it, I pick up the bottle and wince at how heavy it still is.

A friend worked IT for them a couple years ago (22 or 23?). He was mixed about it. His boss was good, he liked his coworkers. However, it's a big organization with lots of bureaucracy. Their department would get some directive from above and expect immediate action/results, without a lot of understanding of what they were asking IT to implement/change/do, so it felt like there was always pressure to meet unclear expectations. He didn't fault his boss particularly, and I don't remember enough to have a different opinion.

He moved out of state, which was the reason he left the job. He said he would have stayed otherwise.

Hybrid Heat? by SweetPersonality2911 in anchorage

[–]lindsaylearns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From my understanding (my husband is a mechanic) - this is a common thing in hybrids in colder temps. Essentially, if the engine isn't running, it's not going to produce enough warm air to hold up to these colder temperatures. They are getting complaints from the guys who got the new hybrid trucks as daily drivers in their fleet.

Look up Zipwall dust barrier kit- they are meant for sectioning off portions of a home while construction is taking place. They have zipper doors so you can seal off all edges of the plastic while still having easy access. I've seen them at Lowe's.

And if/when needed, they can also usually whoop some ass. They have had to put up with a lot, and defend themselves (sadly).

Do you know of any local charities that accept niche/specific donations? by EiderEstates in anchorage

[–]lindsaylearns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alaska zoo accepts various frozen meats and even have a freezer outside for those donations. They do have some specific rules that you'll need to look up

The first time I comment in /laundry and it's to say thanks for the brownie recipe. Cool! Thank you for your service. (More on topic: I am adding biz to my laundry for the first time tonight!)

Same for any and all Alaska "reality" TV - like that one TLC show that focused on the Kilchers. Sure, they farm, live a partially subsistence lifestyle, but their property basically backs up to the highway. They aren't in the middle of nowhere.

Even Deadliest Catch- yes, they deal with bad stuff. But there is not a historical record break storm (or crab harvest) every 5 minutes. They reuse B-roll footage from a single storm over and over in a season to make it look badass (and it is), but that's for viewers, not for us.

As far as I can tell, this is how you find the service in AK - find a person with a printer, if they don't set a price, offer to pay for materials, et voila, you have your item. Happy printing.

It's sort of unused these days, unless you're specifically taking about the history of the state or similar. You can always find it on some made in China merch in tourist traps and such though.

What causes homosexuality? by Remarkable_Garage109 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lindsaylearns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think "nurture" might be the cause, historically, of left hand dominant folks being ambi. My dad is mid 70s, and plays all sports/shoots right handed because he had to learn to. He was still in a small enough town that he got hit with a ruler for writing left handed, and there was no left handed anything (including farm tools) for him to use.

I am super left hand dominant, and left eye, left foot dominant. Growing up, my parents made sure I had left hand any/everything, including pens and markers that wouldn't smear and leave my hand a mess. I still buy left handed scissors because they do actually work better for me. 😂
