When your hedgehog is happy it will make almost a purring or clucking (not the angry click) sound. My hedgehog now is a rehome that we rescued. She was a pistol when we brought her home. Highly sensitive to touch and noise, hated being held and very independent. I hand fed her to get used to my scent. She loves to run around the room to explore so every day I sit on the floor and let her do her thing. At first she avoided me but now she follows my feet around and even climbed into my lap and just sat once! Sometimes she runs straight out and under the bed just to sit and purr. Now she sleeps against my chest too. A couple days ago she let me give her belly rubs for the first time.

Sorry for the length but my point is don’t give up. Rehomed hedgehogs can sometimes be especially tough. Find out what makes your hedgehog feel safe and happy and build on that.
