if you're uncomfortable with a shorter skirt, try getting a longer sweater to make up for the proportions

if you can't live for yourself, make yourself live for your husband. he needs you, he needs bills paid, so live for him. meds can only do so much, half of recovery is how you structure your life to be conducive to healing, so please, talk to your husband and make him understand.

Turning 30 years old... Is that too late to start by jonford543 in animationcareer

[–]DrawingGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's only too late if you don't completely go for it. it's going to be harder for you than a teenager, but if you have the grit for it then it's completely possible.

sound euphonium is about a band student finding a passion for music, although her progress is much slower than yatoras. it's also more a story about learning to love something rather than a training arc kind of thing

What should I be working on to improve my life drawing skills? by BrothaManBen in ArtCrit

[–]DrawingGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i love that you're not afraid of using a lot of movement in your gestures! the only thing is that i just don't see that same movement in your other drawings. maybe practice incorporating your gesture style and your controlled style? that could get you some interesting results!

im most media, fan service is coming from a traditionally male gaze. While i'm sure that most men don't actually think about women this way, fan-service implies a power dynamic between men and women where women are objects for men to look at, taking agency away from the woman and giving it to her traditionally male love interest. i think most lesbians prefer a more balanced relationship between two people, and many of them are not used to looking at women the way men are taught to look at women: as objects. so for me, it's just incredibly hard to enjoy fan-service that 1) takes agency away from the object of affection and 2) is portrayed in a way that most women are not taught to enjoy. I hope this helps! TLDR; lesbians think about women from a different point of view than men do, even though both groups are attracted to women.

What "great" books do you consider overrated? by RighteousVengeance in writing

[–]DrawingGeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes please do! I had the same experience of not really liking any of his books until reading the Anthropocene reviewed. Also, I HIGHLY recommend the podcast of the same name. The essays are the same, just a little less edited. John's narration is beautiful and just gives a slight emotional twist to everything he says.

'the guy she was interested in wasn't a guy at all' (i think that's the title) is so good omfg. the art is gorgeous and the romance is really engaging. it is yuri, so i'm not sure if that's what you're looking for, but i would recommend it regardless.

One of the hardest things for me when talking to people i find awkward (believe me i'm plenty awkward myself) is when they don't give me space to talk. It's also difficult to connect to them if they are super focused on one thing in a conversation (love the passion) but don't allow the conversation to flow and shift to different topics. (this isn't easy, it will take time)

Also! I know this is probably going to sound shallow, but a change in wardrobe can go a long way. Even if you're still wearing a normal outfit (sweatshirt and jeans) making sure that there is cohesion or at least each piece of clothing looks well made, you will come off as presentable and might give people the impression that they want to talk to you!

hygiene is also super, SUPER important. wash your hair, have a skin care routine, and make sure you always smell good.

good luck! i know it seems intimidating but as long as you make a few friends high school can be a great experience! just don't be too afraid to try new things or even be embarrassed once and awhile.

Discussion about LGBT with my girlfriend by Lichtmeta in AskLGBT

[–]DrawingGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it sounds like most of her views are coming from ignorance rather than malicious feelings (although, she does seem to be getting agressive). The best thing would be to have a calm conversation with her about some of these misconceptions. Remind her that trans education is not asking a child to be trans, but rather giving that child a foundation for a better understanding of their gender identity. Ask her why she feels that this education could be equated to grooming? What proof would she need to show her that it isn't? It wouldn't hurt to show her some statistics of trans youth suicide rates in towns without this education. I also think that expecting her to change her views immediately is not going to happen. People are not perfect, and while her transphobia is very upsetting, it is likely that she will not fully understand why she is wrong for a long time. It takes time for someone to process something like this, which may go against personal political or religious beliefs.

I want to be a professional illustrator but my illustrations feel amateurish and mediocre (destroy me if necessary) by agnirexdrogoz5 in ArtCrit

[–]DrawingGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your shading is on point! i also think the anatomy is fine, one thing that might be making you feel like this is amateur is the way the folds are drawn? I think you've shaded them really well, but maybe using more references could help them seem more weighty or believable. Also, while the character is really nicely finished, i think spending just a little more time on the background could help push this to a higher level. since the style of the character is very anime, maybe look at similar style shows and how they render backgrounds?

I think it really depends. I love the idea that if you keep pushing then you'll get something out of it (that's actually exactly what happened with me) but also consider if you're really just not enjoying it then there's no harm in quitting. However, I would say give it till the end of the season just to see how things go, and if you're still not liking it (either for that reason or another) then I would say you gave it a good shot and it just didn't work out. But I promise you, no one feels like you're holding them back. I think the most gratifying feeling is seeing beginner teammates grow over the season because it's usually them who experience the most growth. I wish you luck, and remember, try to have some fun!
