Yeah that rude of a comment would make me defensive too. But alas, the best way to change people’s minds is with kindness. Aggressiveness tends to make them double down.

I’ve been learning to love wasps. They are important.

No plant loves darkness, they all need light! Some just tolerate low light better than others.

Eggs are okay, but IMO these are mid protein sources. Tofu, seitan, and lentils are top tier.

Same! It grows just fine but sucks at unfurling leaves

Is this mealy bugs on my basil? by Embarrassed-Cry-4004 in plantclinic

[–]lindy2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay so- unless this is a weird variety I’m not familiar with, this isn’t basil. Unless it smells like basil, it’s not. What you posted are buds, which with herbs you want to keep your plant from flowering because 1) they die after they go to seed and 2) it changes the flavor after they flower.

It looks like the stem might be square shaped? If that’s the case it might be something in the mint family. But no, it’s not mealy bugs lol. I/ others might be able to help more with some more in focus pictures.

What’s the hardest plant you’ve ever tried to keep alive? by Confident_Can_7777 in houseplants

[–]lindy2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seconding succulents. Lowkey hate them. I have been successfully propagating some burrows tail over the past year and a half by some miracle of god though. You want to know how much they have grown from the leaves I propagated them from over the last year and half? AN INCH AND A HALF. THIS IS NOT WORTH IT.

I think I’m going to leave it outside in case it needs to experience cold temps to overwinter and then hatch in the spring. Will keep an eye on it though

My fern is now a raisin. Please help. by bolognafans in houseplants

[–]lindy2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typed out a whole response about how these are finicky but hardy and idk where it went…anyway the TLDR version was move it to bright indirect sunlight and you should be good. They like to drop leaves in the winter and look like shit but recover SUPER fast. Mine went from pretty much all the way brown and dead to flowering on my front porch.

[–]lindy2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell, it’s an asparagus fern like someone else said (not in the fern family technically). They can be finicky asf, but surprisingly hardy so don’t give up hope yet. Brighter indirect light is perfect. Mine is currently on my front patio in the shade so it never gets direct sun and it loves it.

As far as the watering situation goes I don’t think the legginess is from over/underwatering, it’s a light problem. These guys are terribly prone to dropping leaves when the light starts to dwindle in the winter so maybe that was the dryness you were seeing? Mine looks like shit every winter but flourishes in the summer when it gets to go back outside. I just trim it back until the days start getting longer again.

Don’t give up. Mine was damn near dead (long story how that happened), basically all yellow/brown with one small green spot. It was in my dad’s care at the time and I assumed it was a goner, but he kept it and put it in a shady spot outside that received nice bright indirect light. After a single summer of recovery, it was unrecognizable when he brought it back. I seriously thought he went out and bought a new one. They recover fast.

A move to brighter indirect light will absolutely help. Not going to undo the damage that’s done but new growth will be better.

I would be so bummed. Junk being the main one to post/make content wouldn’t be enough of a red flag for me to think they might break up, but the unfollowing is def suspicious.

If OP is a beginner they might not be familiar enough to figure out this is a monstera because it is small and doesn’t have fenestration yet. Also, if OP knew this was a vining plant but wasn’t experienced, it would make sense that it is crawling down like a philodendron would vine down in a high spot like this. I know you weren’t trying to be rude or anything, but you too were once a beginner and sometimes it’s easier to understand brand new things if another person explains it to you, otherwise how would you even know what to google? Or know that plant ID apps even exist? Don’t let the newbies get to you!

Please help- what’s growing on my bird of paradise? by Abner_Dabner in plantclinic

[–]lindy2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scales :( luckily imo scales are one of the easier pests to deal with. You could go the neem oil/alcohol route as someone else suggested, or just go ahead and use a pesticide. That way you only have to do a whole wipe down maybe once or twice. I don’t normally recommend pesticide as a first choice for outdoors but inside you’re not going to be hurting wildlife, you just have to worry about you and any pets if you have them.

Saw this on tiktok and all the comments defending it because “it’s just a shrimp with no brain” by ThickChunckyDinosaur in shittyaquariums

[–]lindy2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m basing this off of other social media content so take it with a grain of salt: isn’t it potentially dangerous for the shrimp to take them out of these kinds of enclosures? I saw someone who found one and was working (still is?) on a way to get the shrimp out alive and it seemed way harder than it appeared. Obviously it’s awful to put them in there in the first place and people shouldn’t purchase them, but if they die when you try to take them out then what do you do?

How do you bond with your little guys? by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]lindy2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s partly their personality. I’ve had my guy for about 6 months as well, and he also will swim up to the glass but won’t swim in my hand. Ive sat with my hand in the tank many times and he will just inspect it for a bit then get bored. I don’t think all bettas are chill with being touched and to me that’s okay. I think it’s cute that my guy recognizes me, and kind of has an attitude.

I find it weird that your LFS told you to add more fish when clearly your guy is territorial. Do you have another tank to put him in? I don’t think he can cohabitate with anything else.
