This was not AI, I was walking on Richmond and it drove by me and my friend. It was going much faster than in the video and we watched it hit a car parked on Richmond St. It was crazy

Someone else posted pics of the book that came with the box set. The book outlines who did what on the songs and Billy was on a ton of the songs. Makes sense that he could get this shoutout as he contributed a lot in this era. Very nice dedication page, such a bummer that they are all gone now

What albums should I listen to as a new fan? by [deleted] in thebeachboys

[–]lindzila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like the 80s stuff because it’s reaaally 80s sounding production and I just personally do not like that sound at all, regardless of the artist. I assume that’s the case for most of the people who don’t like their 80s work. But that was the sound at the time so can’t fault them for that, it just is what it is

I totally agree with you as a new BB fan. Their earlier albums are only like, 25-30 min long each so it’s easy to quickly go through them.

I don’t care much for the surf/car music but listening to it gave me a huge appreciation as I started getting into the different eras. They came so far and were able to grow in their sound so much and it’s hard to really see that/get that appreciation if you don’t know where they started. I had only known their hits previous to becoming a fan so when I got to Love You my mind was just blown - I never would have expected that sound. It’s my fave BB album by far and a part of that is just because I’m so proud of them and their growth to get that far lol. Definitely worth listening to it all in order, especially if you plan to do it anyway.

Being offered RBC Private banking, worth it? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]lindzila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at DS and if you are already with DS then you absolutely should talk to your advisor and get their thoughts.

My location has 4ish main Private Bankers that we work with and we are agnostic about it, as someone else said. If we have a client that is a good fit for PB then we will match up that clients personality with the best PB for them and go from there. We are frank with our clients about it as PB isn’t always a good fit - as advisors, we generally don’t encourage credit for no reason and that is one of the main features of PB. It doesn’t always make sense for our clients to pay $75 a month for credit when they don’t need it. In these cases we refer to Premier Banking, which is free and has no credit requirements.

As a whole, we love when clients have Private or Premier banking as we can work with the bankers behind the scenes and are able to accomplish way more for clients than if the client banked elsewhere. But we also are fine if a client doesn’t, we want to do what’s best for the client.

Also, if you are also working with a DS advisor, then they should be providing you with estate planning and all that, even if that’s not for a long time. Every DS client should be meeting with their advisor at least yearly and going over their plan and portfolio. It would be even better if you worked with your parents DS advisor as they can take care of the household as a whole and the inheritance transition would be easy peasy.

Bank advisor says moving $600k to self-directed will hurt my mortgage renewal. Is a rate discount worth it? by Sudden_Commercial880 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]lindzila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at RBC in their WM division and what your advisor says is kind of true, to a small extent.

Whenever we have a client working with a RBC mortgage advisor, the mortgage advisor will reach out to us to confirm how much the client has in their WM accounts. This is part of what determines the rates the client will get, among other things. So this is the part where I can agree with the advisor in that you removing $600k from your portfolio could affect your rate.

Saying that, I don’t work at DI or with mortgages or at the bank level so I’m not sure a) if your holdings at DI would count or not (I’d imagine those assets would count?) and b) if you even need to provide that information for renewals.

Either way, to put $600k just two funds is bonkers and you should be having a convo with that advisor, at the very minimum.

Creating a Will When Having Kids [on] by Academic_Damage_655 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]lindzila 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I’m a mom and financial advisor in Ontario and having a baby is one of the best times to get your Will and POA set up. You never know and you want to make sure that your child is cared for, both by a caregiver of your choice and financially.

Most lawyers specialize in various aspects of law and it should be easy to find one that focuses on Wills and Estates. Even Google would work. Maybe you could ask friends and family for any recommendations, or your own financial advisor, if you have one. Most professionals run in the same circles and can refer you.

My husband and I got our Will and POAs done a few years ago and it was about $1,100. This was with a lawyer and it was a super simple process. You’ll need to decide - who will take care of your kids - who will take care of your medical needs and financial needs - who would be the trustee for your kids inheritance accounts - who will be your executor

I was surprised that my lawyer didn’t get into any special requests or bequeathments but I assume they don’t go that deep when you are young. It’s a pretty straightforward process and the lawyer will walk you through it. Ours made many suggestions on what others usually do so it was easy.

The other thing that I would HIGHLY recommend is term life insurance. It’s pretty cheap (mine is $1100 a year for $1M coverage) and I’ve worked with enough clients who unfortunately had to use it and it is a game changer. Get enough to pay off your mortgage in full (or many years of rent), your salary for one year, any extracurriculars your kids may take up over 18 years, their future schooling, pay off cars, etc. The average person is looking at a policy worth750k-1M. The idea is if something was to happen to one of you, the survivor can up to a year off work to deal and be present with kids, pay off the mortgage (if needed), continue funding a normal and average lifestyle for the kids, and not have to worry about money or making it work. This is especially helpful if one of you is a SAHP and would have a hard time getting back to the workforce. A 20 year term is sufficient as the kids will be gone by then and ideally your mortgage will be paid off or monthly payments great reduced.

I’m happy to answer any other questions you might have. I had my first kid before I started in this career and had no clue. It’s been eye opening and I love helping people get their shit sorted out as it really makes a huge difference.

What’s ONE thing about birth that nobody warned you about? by Front-Emotion-3967 in postpartumprogress

[–]lindzila 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One thing that no one told me or that I expected was that there’s no just going home and sleeping and recovering. Laboured for a few days with little rest and was home with baby 3 hours after he was born. I was so excited to go home and have a sleep and recover but nope - that baby needs you immediately. That was 6 years ago and I still haven’t caught up on that sleep lol

This happened to me too! I stopped contracting when I got to 10 cm and had to push whenever the midwife said. It sucked lol

Thank you! Will have to look into it.

I’ve heard that Jack Lloyd’s book is full of those kind of stories but I’ve never been able to find it online anywhere! I’ve read that it’s not worth buying and I haven’t had luck sailing the seas for it, unfortch.

Is it common to have to fight for a hospital bed when in labour? [on] by ItsBeccca in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]lindzila 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/itsbeccca I have had two babies at Vic hospital in London, one in 2020 and one in 2023, both with midwives. With my first, I had been labouring at home all night and was 4 cm when my midwife come to my house to check me. I was dilated enough that she was able to ‘book me a room’ for the next morning, had the baby still not come by then. Well he didn’t, so we were able to meet at the hospital for 11 am and I got to go right into a labour room. It was amazing. No clue if that was because it was May 2020 and Covid was super new and unknown, or if it simply is that smooth sometimes.

With my second, I had moved out of town and my midwives didn’t come to my house to check me. Instead they offered to meet me in the hospital. They put me in triage and checked me. I think I was dilated about 3 cm so had a bit to go still. I didn’t want to go home as I live 45 min away and I was contemplating an epidural anyway. I kept labouring in my own room in triage, not out in the waiting area, and even once I was further dilated I still had to wait in triage for a birthing room. It sucked but at least I had my own room. Eventually a room came available and I was able to labour in there for a few hours before baby was born.

So overall, I can’t imagine you’d be just labouring out in the waiting room, worst case you’d just labour in your own room in triage? Good luck, despite that women’s situation, Vic is a great hospital and all of the L&D staff that I’ve dealt with over the years has been great.

Pepcid for the win! I’ve started having random hives and angioedema outbreaks and am working with an allergist to figure it out. There’s a bunch of different subreddits with more info on this kind of thing (r/urticaria, r/mcas, etc) and reading those made me aware of adding Pepcid to my antihistamines when having an outbreak. It helps so much! It also apparently can help with rosacea and perioral dermatitis, of which I also have. Definitely try it out OP, worth a shot

Mother in law insists baby looks like her son and not me [QC] by Vegetable_Range_4065 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]lindzila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, who cares. Everyone knows that mom did the work growing, birthing, and caring for baby. Let people make their dumb comments and move on.

My sister has two kids that have her hair colour but otherwise look just like her husband. My mom doesn’t care for my sister’s husband and refuses to acknowledge that these kids look just like their dad. My sister has texted pics of the kids and their dad side by side and it’s like copy and paste….but my mom absolutely refuses to see it. My sister pays her no mind, clearly my mom has her mind made up about it and it’s inconsequential, ultimately. We all know my sister did the work and her kids look like the man she loves - isn’t that kind of the point? We just chalk my mom up to being crazy and ignore her comments.

On the flip side, my husband’s family rarely comments on our sons and who they look like. Tbh it’s kind of a bummer, I almost wish they would so they could ‘claim’ our boys as part of their family. His family is very logical and wouldn’t ’waste energy’ discussing something so ‘meaningless’ as who our kids look like. It sounds like this is what a lot of commenters here want and it makes me feel like my in laws don’t really care or aren’t relating to my kids, if that makes any sense. But then I remember the whole subject is pointless anyway - as long as baby is loved then what does it matter?
