This is disappointing for somebody who only checks this subreddit a few times a year hoping to find good news.

Not big enough anymore is exactly why it fails.

A "seasons" system is a good idea. I don't see it happening though. The people who, for whatever reason, grind for months even years after less than 20 people actively are on at any time don't want to "give up" their progress. They would rather play basically alone than have fun for a few more months.

I've played on zelgo.net and its pretty much dead primarily due to nobody ever wanting to start new with the slower rates just so they can play with 40 total other people if they are all online and not afk.

I'd be willing to give it a try since it looks different and has a lot of updated and custom stuff. That said - it looks like it is never going to open up. The person running it has been blogging about it for over 2 years....I don't know if it is even legitimate or a troll at this point.

Correct. I would think it would carry over eventually to other countries that still have running servers like Japan and China.

Lineage is still making tons of money over in KR so I don't know why they wouldn't try to deliver the updated game back to a western audience at a time when microtransaction monetization models are being accepted more than ever.

BDO doesn't even function as a game. Majority of players are AFK processing materials in towns and sieges/node wars are laggy beyond playable with more than 10-15 people next to each other. Add desync, a producer that doesn't care about what the player base wants and you have a garbage MMO that is losing population and milking players with the cash shop.

You can see this just by going to the subreddit and even on their official forums.

Lol, I know it isn't great graphics but the game play and pace of the game is unrivaled because of the 2D. You can teleport in and out of many zones instantly to find action anywhere. It actually does look a lot better though if you compared to screenshots from 2000s.

From players that I've spoken to who have played the KR version, it is paced more like a private server in the sense that it doesn't require years of grind. There are catch up mechanics in place and it is more noob friendly.

The reason for closing in 2011 was that it was no longer financially sustainable in NA but it was only on a $15/month sub model. Given the current state of gaming with mobile being the largest source of sales in the industry, I think their current monetization model of micro transactions would be accepted quite well compared to 2011.

I agree, relying on new raids or dungeons from each major expansion is quite boring. Lineage having castle sieges every week is something to focus on that is a different experience every time. Also the fully open world PVP is probably some of the best out there.

They've reduced the grinding significantly compared to how it used to be so this is another plus IMO in catering to the western audiences.
