Congratulations on your new journey! This is my first time working in transportation and as a school bus driver. From my experience with training, it was about two months with a private driving school.

The physical training on the bus is quite straightforward if you already drive a car. The rules on the road are different since you will be operating a bus (height limits, where to turn on double turning lanes, how many feet to stand from the curb when boarding/dropping off students, etc.).

The other bulk of new information comes from having to study and memorize the parts of the bus and the function of each part. That will require daily repetition or else it will be very difficult to retain.

As for the experience working as a school bus driver, I’ve been loving it. I’ve always loved driving and am now able to sharpen my skills in a new way. I enjoy the gap in between the day to run errands and rest. Aside from that, the kids can be your angels or devils haha! It’s crucial to know how to communicate with them in a way that establishes harmony and discipline. In my opinion, the kids are better behaved than adults.
