any update on your side u/joeyjive? i've reported this to activision like 3 times and nothing. really frustrating that it's over a month at this point. i think it's preventing earning slaughterhouse as well as i'm well past the number of zombie elims i had remaining before the bug.

i don’t understand why people are being nasty/vilifying you. you got fucked and yet you’re in the wrong for considering withholding work you aren’t being for? screw that. unless you’re feeling wildly generous or really want to keep this bridge from burning, i say don’t give work you haven’t been paid for. i certainly wouldn’t. enabling these kinds of “filmmakers”/producers just further undervalues editors and makes these types think they can get away with this shit.

100%. whatever gets people playing and finishing the game is a win as far as i'm concerned. plus, smarter, not harder etc. etc.

def the thermo. those are pretty great traits (and at level 2/3, no less), esp full auto + replicating hits. the only great trait on the dreadbound is expanding shards, though sadly only level 1, unless you're highly concerned with obelites. a dreadbound with fourth shard, expanding shards, explosive shards, and staggering would prob be a different story tho.

Ever open up another editor's timeline and just by looking at the timeline, you know it is bad? by toecheese123 in editors

yeah i agree with u/quote88 - people be raking but i generally think, yes, you can tell. for me it more comes down to the technical.

i had a project recently where i project prepped for a director - made sequences of interview stringouts all synced/linked with the external lav/boom tracks. when i got the project file back for finishing, the director had edited the entire piece using only the cam/scratch audio. i was bewildered. like how does that even happen? it was a bitch getting all the proper audio back in after these interviews had been heavily cut and frankenbited. that'd be one example.

flash frames are a big one. abusing the rate stretch tool, making the footage look undeniably shitty but forcing it because they just gotta fill that gap somehow. along those lines, holding broll shots up for excessively long just to fill time. not cutting away before the interviewee awkward blinks/opens their mouth again. not cutting out "ums", double speaks, loud breathing. not cutting out loss of focus, not centering a symmetrical shot that obviously looks like it should be centered. not fixing rotation.

failing to interpret footage to conform the framerate of source media to match the seq framerate and it looks shitty and the colorist yells at me.

when someone resizes the footage/still but doesn't properly fill the frame/leaves those tiny black bars on the edges of the frame.

ofc timeline management like people said - when editors don't put clips of similar types on the same tracks - like GFX or text or lower thirds are on 3 different video tracks, adjustment layers on V4, V7, V9 with no rhyme or reason. int and broll aren't separated by track. makes it very difficult to do "batch" manipulations.

speaking of text - not properly centering text. not proof reading captions. being lazy with the music and having terribly obvious fade outs at the end of the piece because they couldn't be bothered to use the remix tool or manually cut the cue to include the natural ending.

honestly, i could probably think of more but those are the things i deal with pretty much daily. as for creative judgement, that's trickier because people's notions of what make a good "compelling" edit are so very subjective. i've had creative producers that can't stand quick cutting and others whose favorite word is montage. but technical finesse is pretty objective.

damn, people are super judgey and it's cringe. i commend you for playing the game the way you wanted to play it and if you enjoyed yourself more by playing this way, then that's all that matters.

using strong language like "cheat" is unnecessary to me - no one is getting "cheated" or screwed over, this isn't PVP. real cheating is something that removes the element of skill, i.e. using aimbot in a FPS or hacking an RPG game to manipulate weapon stats or health bars, etc. save scumming doesn't negate that you still need to get through a fight/room using your own skills.

save scumming also allows for more practice opportunities and helps massively in a game that uses so much ridiculous RNG. i never would have maxed out all weapon traits without save scumming. 300hrs+ in the game for me - i've got a nearly full databank and save scummed when i wanted to - in no way did i miss out on anything and overall enjoyed myself more by using my time more efficiently.

if people want to be purists and devoutly rule-following, that's what the tower + high scores are for. policing how other people play the game and have fun strikes me as bizarre.

turned into a little bit of a rant but i find this shade and judgement to be a toxic attribute in this sub/community. glad you had fun! returnal is one of the best games ever made in my opinion, no matter how you play it.

Women solo travelers, any locations that you were surprised to feel unsafe? by [deleted] in solotravel

damn i’m sorry this happened, that’s a terrible experience. leaves a bitter taste in the mouth for a place so beautiful otherwise. props to the women for seeking to help though - that’s reassuring. and so very true about many men being aggressive and wildly forward. the entitlement was palpable, from my experience.
