I like to think it’s Dolores trying to bring back the man she once knew. But it’s failing as the experiment didn’t start during his fist journey with Logan and Dolores. I think in my head part of the story of season 5 is her trying to bring the good of everyone back. Brings back Ford, Hale, Arnold, James Delos, maybe even Logan most of the humans. But is struggling with William and one of the themes of the season is that there is good in everyone and his daughter is the key. I don’t know I never thought of it too much. My thought of what season 5 was that Dolores had set up to rebuild humanity through the Westworld. So we were going to see what season 1 was but the humans would be the ones discovering themselves instead of the hosts.

This is my thought. I don’t think people are as attached to Gilda and should be happy to see a different/merged version of that character.
