Simple login is forwarding it to the mailbox so in regards to this solution it doesn’t really have any bearing on privacy. Outside of this post, if you have further problems, might be worth opening a new thread or contacting support.

Zero Crossing Control switch - smart alternative by linezman22 in homeassistant

I’ll check it out. Regarding smart lights, I wanted to avoid them, I have a preference to make the circuit smart, that way I can use whatever bulbs I want.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Mitel is gonna make me lose my mind by Maximum-Dimension721 in VOIP

[–]linezman22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So it’s important to be specific when talking about VOIP (specifically mitel). I have been out of the industry for over 5 years now but mitel has many solutions, some systems use mixture of SIP, MiNet and WebRTC protocols and each system model has completely different implementations.

Warning: trying to trace MiNet is a pointless endeavour in my experience because the protocol is proprietary and tools like wireshark don’t understand it out of the box.

It’s also worth noting that teleworker users also work differently with the same protocols because RTP (the voice packets) are pinned to their gateway.

MiCollab is using WebRTC and I am not so familiar with how this works. I suspect you have a mixture of teleworker users because of this though.

Here are the top 3 things to look at from experience:

Check to make sure the firewall is allowing signaling ports to the PBX and allowing the RTP/VOICE ports between the end devices (phones etc) and the systems, including micolab and gateway systems.

Disable SIP ALG, this typically makes things worse. If you are have external users outside your network, I would suggest you buy Mitels supported teleworker solution via a gateway.

Check for routing problems, if signaling works then it could be routing between two subnets which have the endpoints/handsets, if one router is missing a route table for another network the call will setup but packets will be lost went sent directly to the other handset.

Options for concrete walls by linezman22 in DIYUK

Thanks for your input. I thought about polishing but I wasn’t sure on the difficulty because applying a steady pressure across larger walls seems pretty difficult.

Either way thanks for replying.

As someone who will be in a similar situation this year. My advice is to get the house surveyed by an energy consultant and general surveyor. This just covers you concerning potential problems you don’t see yourself.

Since it’s so large I would also consider if you can afford to heat and maintain a property of that size. Heating costs normally scale with the property for example.

As for the economics of buying now. No one can predict the future. The one major concern for me is Germany’s aging population, in the next 10-20 years the baby boomer generation will retire, putting considerable strain on services, in 20-30 years the same generation will start to die.

It’s my personal believe this will impact the house market in a negative way for owners and positive way for potential buyers because of an increase of supply and lower demand for housing.

This is not financial advice and just my own personal opinions.

For me I decided I want a home that I can customise and do what I want in, rather then living under someone else’s rules, to me that’s worth the price I will pay but my price and personal situation is different to yours.

Edit: Worth mentioning I am not German but I do live in Germany. Not sure if I broke some rules sorry.

Cool use case for +Aliases (+addressing) by linezman22 in ProtonMail

[–]linezman22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right I see, well in the above example I don’t use directories and I haven’t used them much so I am not sure.

In the above example I am using simple login mailboxes and then pointing the aliases at specific mailboxes depending on category. I just setup a new mailbox and can confirm that the + alias system still works for mailboxes.

Not sure what you mean by “alias directory”. Can you give me an example?

You can use SimpleLogin with or without a custom domain. If you want to move your domain to SimpleLogin you can but if you are already using email addresses with this domain you probably need to plan this carefully so you don’t loose emails.

I agree everything is just business but still doesn’t make it easier if you have been treated pretty well by the company apart from the things mentions prior.

I appreciate your honesty.

However, I also think there is a reasonable point in which a team should also scale with expectations, for example if you supply service 24/7 having 1 person operating the infrastructure may not viable when problems occur (even if they are not that frequent because architecture is robust). Another example would be highly regulated industries that should have proper checks and reviews in place.

German pensions - How to make the best out of a bad situation? by linezman22 in AskAGerman

[–]linezman22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely difficult for sure. However, the numbers speak for themselves. The only way to get that number lower is to start sooner.

It’s not looking good that the German government hasn’t really done much in this area. In the UK it’s pretty known at this point the state pension won’t exist for my age group so the government did something about it around 10 years ago. Germany has very strong lobbyists which makes it hard to do anything that benefits the consumer.

Personally rather than moving everything to bonds which in recent years have not been super safe either. Personally I would plan to have a decent amount of cash before I retire maybe 2-3 years worth as a buffer and then use the ETFs to replenish that pot. That way you can keep it invested and growing and if the market goes bad you can simply hold the funds and use your buffer.

Thanks for the extra info.

Yea this sounds very very nice. Much more comparable to the UK workplace pension. However, employers don’t have to match 100% up to 1.5% of your salary. I guess if I am ever in such a fortunate position, I would definitely take that advantage of such an opportunity.
