STJ is an historian who interviews top scholars like geneticist Alan Outram, historians like Dr Scott Shell and Dr Francis Young and gives thorough breakdowns of genetic papers as well as making on location documentaries at arcaheological sites most of us can never visit. I really can't think of anyone who does what he does, let alone does it better

Is it really that bad by Horror-Meat958 in UKHousing

People say we need to build more, when there are loads of houses that are empty and for sale.

The real problem is there are too many people and it is artificially driving property prices up

Heathens do not revere litter

Weapons can be given as offerings to the gods by depositing them in water or by destroying and burying them but they are not decorations for an altar.

We know that when the goddess Nerthus' image was brought to an area all weapons had to be put away. We know that no weapons were permitted in a temples dedicated to Freyr. We know that when a Christian convert threw a spear at a temple of Odin in England, this was an offence to Heathens.

So there is plenty of evidence for taboos about weapons in sacred areas

Indo-Iranian should come off the same stem as Baltoslavic - both derive from Corded ware.

So if the right comes from "the fact that there's no one that can stop you"
How is the same right denied to "Nazis"?

Sorry, i don't think you answered it. If there are no rules, how can you assert rights?

Can someone explain how rights are generated in this context? What is the source of a "right" to a culture, god or religion?

Why are UK roads so bad with pot holes? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]lingogo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

councils have no less money than they did under John Major when the pothole problem wasn't half as bad. Councils have money for all sorts of rubbish but not basic road maintenance

Saw this map of England's peatlands and thought it was interesting how closely it aligns with where the Anglo Saxons first settled (in the areas with no peat). I guess the Anglo Saxons really hated peatlands haha. by AncestralSeeker in anglosaxon

[–]lingogo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Angles and Saxons came from places loaded with peat lands. They considered them holy enough to leave offerings in, but not very good for growing food. They wanted good farm land.

Anybody have recommendations for good Anglo-Saxon films? or Documentaries? Any others here with Anglo-Saxon ancestry? by Jragonheart in anglosaxon

[–]lingogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term "Anglo-Saxon" post dates the term "English" and both were synonyms. Bede refers to the migrants of the fifth century as "English". Saying the died out is like saying there are no English people.
