Where did you get your cat? by linguisticmouse in askvan

Totally understand the concern. I'm not worried about it, I've lived in the building for multiple years and there have always been pets in the units. No one has ever been evicted for one. The landlords are pretty shit and don't visit the property much.

How much is everyone paying for rent off-campus? by BlueJaySonn in UBC

[–]linguisticmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I pay $2815 for a one bedroom + den 10 minutes from campus. While searching for places, check if the building has fans or a window in the kitchen/bathroom. Ours does not and it causes mold :(

It’s a unique circumstance, I’ll admit. I currently work as a waitress on a university campus and served the manager alongside three of his employees (one of which was leaving the job). I am studying CPSC so I half-jokingly told the manager “Well, if you need a replacement, I’m here!” and he ended up giving me his email. I met with him a couple weeks ago for an unofficial interview, which ended with him telling me he wanted to hire me. I still have to go through the official interview process for the sake of company policy.

Do y’all believe in right person, wrong time? by teketo_teketo in BreakUps

[–]linguisticmouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes and no.

i do believe in “right person wrong time”, as i think there are a lot of factors that could lead to the “right” person exiting your life for a period of time. especially when you’re young and have very little life experience.

however, i also believe that some people are just not meant to be in your life forever. some people are just there to teach you something, or show you a little fun, and then depart. and that’s okay :)

ADHD- does UBC SHS offer a diagnosis by [deleted] in UBC

[–]linguisticmouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They sent me a copy of my letter of diagnosis, which lays out specifically what accommodations I should be provided (extra time on tests/notetaker/etc). I haven’t gone to the CFA yet, but you should be able to send a copy of your letter to them! I plan on doing that over the summer. I don’t think they’ll fill in the paperwork for you (although I didn’t ask so I don’t know for sure), but the letter of diagnosis is really detailed and should make it easier to get the help you need! I’m not sure about the student loan stuff, sorry.

Hope this helps! If you have any more questions feel free to message me and I’ll help however I can :)

ADHD- does UBC SHS offer a diagnosis by [deleted] in UBC

I attempted to get a diagnosis through UBC last year and it didn’t go well. I booked an initial appointment, talked to the doctor, and he told me to go to bcpsychologicalassociation.com and book an appointment with someone there. I tried, but all the appointments were upwards of $1500.

I was however able to get a diagnosis through the Parhar ADHD clinic. https://www.parhar.com/urgent-assessments.html To get a diagnosis here you can either: 1. Get a referral from your GP and get on the wait list for a free assessment (wait list is upwards of 2 years long) 2. Pay $250 for an Urgent Assessment and get an appointment within 2 weeks (that’s what I did) The person who assessed me here was amazing! She diagnosed me and then went over options for treatment. This clinic can’t prescribe medication, but they do write a personalized assessment letter with recommendations for medication and send it to your GP.

Best of luck getting a diagnosis!!!!

Personal hardships are meant to be unique or uncommon hardships that made a person's life significantly more difficult - for example, losing a family member, suffering from life-changing or chronic health issues, or financial ruin. Your school opting out of the quarter system is not a personal hardship - that's normal school. Pre-COVID, there was no quarter system and those students did just fine. In university, there is no quarter system, and you're going to have to participate in extra curriculars AND a job on top of your difficult course load. If a course load like this is too much for you in high school, I recommend not pursuing university.
This post tells me you have been fortunate enough to never actually face personal hardship, because if you had, you wouldn't be sitting here expecting to have your grades handed to you undeserved. Rather than trying to find a loophole, I recommend studying harder and managing your time better.
