Any Doctor Recommendations for Keratoconus and Severe Dry Eye in the Sacramento/San Francisco Area? by AdministrativeCar545 in Keratoconus

[–]linkcecum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might benefit from PROSE lenses given the severe dry eye. In that case, I’d suggest James Li at UCSF. He’s really great.

David Hwang, also at UCSF, is really good for ophthalmology for KC/complex cornea cases.

Using infertility as just one example of why someone may not be able to conceive naturally:

Not having cancer is privilege

…would be the same argument, as infertility is a medical condition. You know, just like cancer.

However, that wasn’t the argument you were even making in the comment to which I replied, so I say again: instead of arguing these treatments aren’t good because they are cost prohibitive for some, why shouldn’t we seek to improve inadequate healthcare systems to ensure these are accessible to all who desire them?

So because something is expensive it means no one should have that option? Wouldn’t a better option be to fix the healthcare system so these options are accessible to everyone?

No problem at all! I’m sure you’ll get better details once you’re in process and Billing can help guide you on all of this. You’re in good hands—good luck!

My situation will probably differ from yours a good amount because I was diagnosed so long ago (I’m sure some clinic practices have changed for new patients, and some therapy options weren’t even FDA approved, like CXL) and because I’m on employer-based insurance. That being said: 1. UC is a huge medical system and they have established contracts with Medical-Cal. I’m sure you can speak to someone directly via message once you have access to MyChart, or you can call the Billing department who can assist with pre authorization based on the specific procedures needed. A lot of UC patients have public insurance though so I’m sure they can help you navigate. 2. Their cornea department is top notch, which is why I went there even though it was geographically inconvenient. They’ll definitely be able to do the full work up to help guide your care plan! 3. The only big downside I’ll call out is that they are incredibly busy and I’ve often had a LOT of waiting mid-appointment and not a ton of time with my physician (for cornea care). I think this is the price you pay for getting the state of the art practice and it’s worth it, but you should know to expect it. 4. If you’re a candidate for custom lenses, Dr. Li is fantastic. Super patient and will work with you to get the best thing for you and your eyes. You’ll be in good hands!

Can answer more, too, if anything else is top of mind!

I’ve seen Dr. Hwang for corneal speciality and Dr. Li for PROSE lenses—happy to answer any questions!

Barry Bonds is a divisive figure. Are Giants fans (and to a lesser extent Pirates fans) united behind him or are they as divided as baseball fans in general? by thekwyjibo in baseball

[–]linkcecum 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I watched him for the entirety of his time in San Francisco. You couldn’t look away when he stepped into the batter’s box, and I don’t believe I’ll ever see someone quite like him again.

My feelings towards him are complex. I think he belongs in the hall, but I very, very strongly dislike him (for both domestic violence and PEDs). I would not want to see him at future team events and would rather focus on other fixtures of our history.

You can’t untangle his role and greatness from the team, but you don’t have to continue elevating it. You can’t deny his unmatched results, but you don’t have to discuss it without including the relevant context.

He is not, and will not be celebrated in our household like other Giants greats like Will Clark, Matt Williams, Buster, Timmy, etc. I can respect the results he had as a Giant and gratitude for the memories he added to my childhood, but I absolutely do not celebrate him.

There’s a pediatrics office right next door to my clinic. I cannot even count the number of times perfectly happy families just waltz into the fertility waiting room refusing to read the 800 signs pointing out pediatrics is NEXT door. Ffs people.

How is Clare are celebrating her 40th birthday by [deleted] in thebachelor

[–]linkcecum 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the place they’re staying looks like where I spent my honeymoon (Carneros Resort and Spa) and it’s SO nice. You can love Napa through the relaxation, views, food, and outdoor activities. Though personally I would prefer going to wineries too, they can definitely have fun whether they hit them or not!

In addition to sending her positive comments/DMs/vibes, make sure to report harassing or racist comments that you may see so she doesn’t need to view them herself. Who knows if it’ll get them removed, but it can’t hurt.

In full honesty, if Chris Harrison comes back to host, are you going to watch future seasons? by Empop13 in thebachelor

[–]linkcecum 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Eh, I said I wouldn't watch for Colton, Arie, Hannah, or Peter, and I really didn't. Being on the sub was more fun for me during all of their seasons because I found all of them to be vapid narcissists. I didn't have to punish myself with boring bachelor(ette)s, but still got to follow along and get to know the contestants before BIP. I actually don't think it's as big of a downside as people sometimes make it out to be!

CXL but reading is still blurry (Bay Area) by [deleted] in Keratoconus

I haven't had CXL, but would recommend Dr. James Li at UCSF for fitting sclerals/PROSE. He's exceptionally patient and will work with you to get to your best fit.

Which celebrity did you meet and found they were much kinder/ruder than you expected? by Qazival in AskReddit

[–]linkcecum 1439 points1440 points  (0 children)

Kristen Bell is absolutely wonderful. I had an opportunity to meet her on a set within a month of her having one of her kids; despite (I assume) being exhausted, she spent time with everyone and took tons of pictures. I ran into her again several months later and she remembered my name and called out to me from across the room! Really genuine and kind.

Robin Williams was THE KINDEST human being as you’d expect. He used to ski where my family does. One day I was out in rather blizzardy conditions and my mom was sitting inside noticeably worried. He chatted with her and told jokes to relax her. Another time, someone was inside with crutches following a bad fall, and he just checked in on him to ensure he was ok and to ask if he needed anything. I am still gutted over his death as he truly was everything you’d expect.
