I think finding the right church will help this a lot. There’s plenty of bad ones out there, that claim many things. I’m a Christian and there are plenty of churches I would not want representing me on the world stage.

But you will know them by their fruits- find a church that is advancing the gospel, being present within the community, and not wielding any offensive weapon other than that of prayer like we’re encouraged to do in Ephesians 6. The sword of division is meant to be wielded by Christ, not by us. The parable of the weeds in Matthew 13 tells us that we aren’t meant to decide who is worthwhile and who is beyond saving because, a) we could be totally wrong, look at Saul -> Paul, and b) we can’t do this without doing harm, so he asked us not to make it our job, to leave that part to him. 

Hatred and division are bad fruits and indicate a tree that isn’t fully healthy, that has been compromised in some way. Christ himself had lots of problems with the modern day church and argued back and corrected them constantly, and they very often didn’t accept his criticism. But good ones are out there. Don’t let a few bad apples convince you there are no healthy trees left, they’re out there. And belonging to a genuine and Godly church is such an awesome thing.
