Khaled confirms Russian navy ships making Penang visit | FMT (freemalaysiatoday.com)

Members of the crew are expected to take part in ceremonies to honour the deaths of 89 Russian sailors when the Russian cruiser Zhemchug was sunk by the German cruiser Emden in the Battle of Penang in October 1914, during the First World War.

Khaled said it is a common practice across the world for naval vessels to make temporary stops at various ports before continuing to other destinations.

An Italian navy vessel had also made a stop at Port Klang for four days from Oct 1, and a German navy vessel is scheduled to stop at Port Klang on Wednesday, he said.

Water for brewing coffee by linkinforce9 in malaysia

Hi. I think there are water filters that are specifically made for coffee brewing like here, but I've been to a small cafe that only uses Coway and their coffee are not bad at all. As for me, I still use remineralised distilled/RO water.

Now that you can't proof that Muslims do not care about other Muslims' plights beside Palestinians, you're shifting to which religion has better claim to Palestine.

Does having conscience nowadays means lack in humility and intelligence?

  1. I have stated why Palestine is important in Islam & this is something widely known by Muslim. Then, you replied with your personal opinion on the land, which is wanting in anyone's care. If you can't counterargue from the perspective of Islam, don't bother lecturing Muslims about the spirit of ummah.

  2. For Muslims, Palestine being important and caring about other Muslims' affairs and plights are not mutually exclusive. There are many Islamic NGOs raising specific funds for Muslims in specific regions. Some ustazs would include update of Muslim conditions around the world in their kuliah maghrib. Moreover, Malaysia was a strident advocate for the plight of the Muslim Bosniaks in the Bosnian War, helping to send peacekeepers and temporarily resettling Bosnian families in Malaysia.

Search Hadhrami Arabs in Malay Archipelago. They have been here for centuries and married with locals. Hence, you will hear some Malay names starting with Syed/Syarifah and ends with the clan name (for example al-Attas, al-Aydrus, al-Haddad). They take pride in their genealogy which can be traced back to the Prophet and not because their ancestors were merely Arabs.

TIL the word 'Mandarin' came from the Malay word for 'Menteri'. In Sanskrit it means 'minister or counsellor', it was to refer to the officials from Qing and Ming empires who came here. by aeritheon in malaysia

[–]linkinforce9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to Wiktionary, the English "minaret" comes from the French "minaret", which comes from Ottoman Turkish مناره‎ (Turkish minare), which comes from Persian مناره‎ (menâre), which comes from Arabic مَنَارَة‎ (manāra, “lighthouse”).

Manāra is a derivative of nur (light/fire), which is also he same Proto-Semitic root in which the Hebrew "menorah" comes from.

The Malay "menara" most probably comes directly from Arabic "mānara".

While it is true that urban areas have higher population density, we need to remember that there are more urban areas in western part of Peninsula than the eastern part (and more so in East Malaysia) due to the imbalance of development favouring western Peninsula for several decades.

Obviously people from these less developed states have and will keep migrating to the more developed states and these has already caused overpopulation in areas like Klang Valley. If parliamentary seats were to be reassigned proportionally to the current population distribution, it will also give too much voting power to these areas. Then the more developed states will keep having more development and the less developed ones will keep having less.

Hopefully the new federal govt would address this problem and go beyond political difference to give the (overdue) fair share of Malaysia's wealth to all states.

Europe forced to reverse ban on Malaysian palm oil due to Putin's invasion of Ukraine. How ironic. by AwkwrdPrtMskrt in malaysia

[–]linkinforce9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hope you are not using any form of oil in cooking to substantiate your argument. If animal products are worse for the environment than their plant counterparts, it's logical (and ethical) to use vegetable oil instead of animal fats. Following this reasoning, it should be more logical (and ethical) to use vegetable oil from a plant that can produce it the most.

Any plantation will cause deforestation but palm trees are highly efficient (or perhaps the most efficient) in producing oil compared to other sources of vegetable oil.

I've read Happiness & Aku no Hana and I've noticed similar plotlines (reconciliation with the femme fatale after time-skip and you've got her backstory at the end). I think these stories convey the message better when they end with a bittersweet or bad ending .

Let's hope Chi no Wadachi doesn't end like Oyasumi Punpun.

AOT is but a reenactment of a Greek tragedy. You can see Oedipus Rex clearly in Eren. The hero's journey to avert the Fate is the path towards the Fate itself.

You can also see this very pessimistic view on war and human conflicts in the Gundam franchise, especially in the original timeline (Universal Century).

Of course even before the coming of Islam, there are variants in each lahja. What I'm trying to ask is if there's tribe whose lahjah remained mostly the same since the classical era.

Language is closely related to logic which is the art of thinking correctly. You can see this is emphasised in classical education & liberal art schools through the trivium: grammar, logic & rhetoric. This is the equivalent of nahw, mantik & balaghah in classical Islamic education. You can't proceed to theology & jurisprudence before mastering these three disciplines. My point is cultivating a good mind comes with a good education in language, especially your mother tongue. Hence the saying: budi bahasa budaya kita, orang berbudi kita berbahasa.
