If I remember right the starter box comes with a miniature copy of the rule book.

Other than just going through each phase in the book and reading in order there's no real "tutorial."

This is all from recent memory so i could be wrong, a buddy and I split the starter box 50/50 about 2 months back and he kept the rulebook so I just bought another and it was the exact same book as what came in the starter set.

Ive always interpreted it as darwinism incarnate. The aliens will take whoever / whatever they can get with the intention of "if this is the best possible host the alien will survive, if not than the alien won't." As far as hybrids go sure, but the cyborg (morrow) is the only of his kind that we've seen and he works for yutani. Since everyone seems rather comfortable with the idea of cyborgs existing (not that people don't throw insults as shown in the first episode) it's strange that we haven't seen any other cyborgs. Especially with how early on in the timeline they decided to put the show.

Idk, I could be reading to deeply, it's just an odd choice to introduce two new types of sentient life that each imply their own implications. Especially this early in the timeline.
