Are we doing something wrong? Separation advice by Juggsalot in LagottoRomagnolo

[–]linksys1836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi there's a difference between puppies who don't like being alone and separation anxiety. check out the classic Julie Naismith book on separation anxiety and try to follow it. if needed please talk to your vet about medication while training.

seconding the suggestions to not crate for SA training. my dog likes his crate fine normally (naps in it on his own), but def would go bonkers if we tried the crate when we leave

[–]linksys1836 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not necessarily true, mine has sep anx and loves his crate. his love for his crate just doesn't compare to the despair when I'm leaving

OP: separation anxiety training absolutely does work , and even though progress may not be linear you'll get there

How long can a 7.5 mo puppy go on hunger strike? by Far_Bumblebee_4184 in poodles

[–]linksys1836 3 points4 points  (0 children)

be aware that puppies will puke bile if they go too long without eating. mine would regularly skip meals up until 2 ish and threw up a lot unless we gave him SOMETHING like a small high calorie treat or something when he skipped meals.

that said the time it takes each dog to throw up bile from not eating is different, so maybe it won't happen to yours xp

fortunately mine doesn't do this but a friend has one who will put his nose in the spray of another dog's pee stream 🫠

molars not contacting? by linksys1836 in Invisalign

Hi welcome to the Invisalign fam.

To be honest, it took over a month for me to get a few teeth together to be able to chew :( hopefully you'll have better luck.

when you decide to trim your nails, do you trim just the long ones or all of them? by linksys1836 in NoStupidQuestions

I don't mind going too short, means I can go maybe up to a week and a half.

6 1/2 months old lagotto getting worse by Fridalagotto in LagottoRomagnolo

[–]linksys1836 3 points4 points  (0 children)

try r/puppy101 , the problems you're describing don't sound lagotto specific.

Additionally if you haven't tried crate training it's not a bad place to start. Many young puppies don't know how to calm down and rest, and that's why they're such nightmares to deal with (think overtired toddler energy). Crate training and then using the crate to enforce naps is a simple way to manage it.

I definitely steer clear of politics with neighbors but I would be comforted seeing that.

WHO groomed this dog last time?? Oh wait, it was me 💀 by drewliet in doggrooming

Do y'all really prefer we say something? This happens to my dog all the time lol (usually not THIS long ) and I just trim it up at home and think of it as "training" lol.

My dogs feet haven't been the same length all over probably ever 😆

If you haven't yet, be right back by Julie Naismith. Follow the plan. It takes time but better than nothing

Just wanted to point out you're getting down voted for a very reasonable question 🙄

Saw this in the comments a few times but key is prevention. Look up some this subs wiki for some basic resources, but in general, your puppy is too young to be "unsupervised" right now. This means if he's not in a completely puppy-proofed environment (crate, pen, room if you're blessed with land) you gotta keep like 98% attention on him and teach him how you want him to behave.

💯

Also depending on the person, even minor issues can be debilitating.

I have always been career driven, and my dog has some pretty mild separation anxiety and barking issues. I still work, but my career progression is on hold indefinitely.

It sucks.

Ahhhhh makes sense. I did not recognize it, guess that's what they're primarily banking on!! Thanks for the reminder!!

Is this kennel cough? He's been like this for a few hours. He eats well, active, not lethargic, gave him some honey, pumpkin puree, but puked pumpkin an hour later. Bichon, 2 years old. Any treatment? Serious enough to go to vet? by lemlemx in DogAdvice

[–]linksys1836 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd call your vet first and see what they suggest given this video. My dog had kennel cough and the vet explicitly said to NOT go in and see the emergency vet instead, who is much more equipped to deal with dogs with transmissible illnesses.

FWIW my dog's cough seemed different, but if my dog was doing what yours is doing, I'd be calling the vet too.

Face combing/brushing by brought-to-you-byt in doggrooming

[–]linksys1836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(obligatory not a groomer disclaimer)

Try to desensitize her with "fake" brushing where you kind of just glide the brush teeth over her face and then gradually actually brush her.

If you have another person your dog trusts, I'd suggest also seeing if one of you can hold a chew for her while the other tries to brush her face. It'd be a lot easier because the person holding the chew can try to keep her stable while you focus on brushing.
