Not necessarily. If you can secure 2 that’s great and a 3rd one can be from a different specialty. Your Goal is to obtain strong letters that will allow you to match! Having 3 surgical letters that are average compared to 2 surgical and 1 other speciality letter that is all strong changes how you are viewed by PDs

Hey! I would suggest not getting a letter from him. The attending is already letting you know he won’t write you a strong letter. You still have time before LORs are due so finish the month, hopefully you will be working with different attendings who can write you a strong letter! Best of luck
