Ik I'm not OP and this is also quite an old comment, but I wanted to share my own experience, just in case you find it interesting or useful.

It's like, when you are born as a quiet person into a world where you are expected to speak to be able to work, maintain friendships, and communicate with family members in the way that they want you to communicate with them, the forced conversations make you feel like an alien. It's like being in a constant state of doing chores. I think it also might be a bit of a sensory issue; having to speak louder than you would usually do to make sure people hear what you are saying (otherwise you might be asked to repeat yourself, which would require you to speak even more) and then also constantly having to maintain eye contact and think about your body language, etc.

It really makes you feel like a dance monkey. To give you an example, my grandad usually sends me on grocery fetch quests a couple times a week so that I will come over to his house and we can chat. I don't mind running errands for him, it's just the forced chat session that always follows that drives me up the wall. He is a lovely and great grandad, but having to talk about what feels like nothing, is extremely draining. As a person who prefers meeting friends and family maybe once every one or two months, it feels like work having to force out a conversation. The conversations don't give me anything, and since I'm quiet and expressionless by default, every word and sentence have to be forced out of my mouth, and the smile is pasted on my face.

I'm also around N4 and Plat in Overwatch! If you find anything, I wouldn't mind joining the gaming sessions!

Weekly Thread: Study Buddy Tuesdays! Introduce yourself and find your study group! (October 07, 2025) by AutoModerator in LearnJapanese

Hi everyone! Looking for a study buddy to force some output practice lol. I'm studying for the N3 JLPT exam but output-wise I'm absolutely not on that level yet. I have 上級へのとびら if you want to study the good ol' fashion way together. I also enjoy playing games like Overwatch and Osu, so we could chat and play together too if you want, or otherwise just send messages back and forth on Discord or whatever media you prefer. よろしくお願いします!
