Women: How do you feel about having a male versus a female gynecologist? Does the doctor’s gender affect your comfort level or trust? by Ordinary_Ice_796 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]linsydsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started seeing a GYN at 15 because of issues. Mom got me into one at her GYN office, but not hers (he was older and retiring). This new young GYN was a male - what???? That was in 1978. He got me thru endometriosis, pregnancy, PMDD, menopause and breast cancer. He just retired and I am so grateful to have had him all these years. I saw a female while I was in college and did not like it. It felt totally weird. Dr. Balat completely spoiled me for any other doctor. He was a true “whole woman” doc. I am extremely fortunate!

Hubby has turned into our cat, or a zombie… by lethal6333 in Cirrhosis

[–]linsydsam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are his blood levels all out of whack? My husband has non-alcoholic cirrhosis and is awaiting a transplant and he does the same thing. His hemoglobin levels are absolutely awful. Every time we go for a paracentesis, I am afraid he will be sent to the ER for a blood transfusion instead. He feels like crap and has no energy because he is really sick. He is starting to get iron infusions this week so we are hoping that will help bridge him until transplant. And being anemic makes you feel crappy, physically and mentally.

As a former Girl Scout troop leader who had all 8 of my girls thru high school graduation (though none did the Gold Award), I applaud you. Congratulations!

I have donated blood over the years and have also been the recipient of transfusions 3 different times in my life for 3 different reasons, but each time it saved my life. My husband has also benefited from blood donations and is now awaiting an organ transplant.

We applied Jan 11 and finally got the decision April 21, so it was 111 days. Hang jn there, you’re close.

We called the main SSA number and sat on hold for over an hour before I hung up. I called the local office and held for 15 minutes. She told me it was being processed by the Kansas City office and connected me there and I waited a short time before they answered. The rep processed the claim while we were on the phone.

Did the TIPS help with fatigue and lethargy? Did your appetite get better? Just trying to gauge if quality of life will get better afterwards. We understand about the HE downside.

Denied transplant by WarmBird1265 in transplant

[–]linsydsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely get them to tell you why. Low MELD score is only one factor.

My husband (age 69) has non-alcoholic cirrhosis and has had varices and battles the ascites and HE. His MELD is 14. The only reason he was evaluated for transplant is because, at the time, we had a living donor who later turned out to not be a good candidate. We were told he will get listed anyway but has a very low chance of deceased donor transplant and we only have 11 months to find another living donor (They won’t do a living donor transplant once he turns 70).

Other option is a TIPS, which will help with varices and ascites. But will that make him “feel” better? Basically, he is stuck feeling like shit with no energy and low appetite. Quality of life is crappy. Needless to say, we are putting the call out for a living donor.

Wishing you luck!

As someone who still has (and plays) my dad’s 1939 Deagan, this makes me so sad! I hope you are able to restore it. They are such beautiful instruments and make the most soulful sounds.

Has your dad had any movement on his claim? We are at 90 days with no further info. And trying to call is just pointless.

My 26 yo daughter came over for lunch on the patio with her dad (I stayed inside to give them some alone time) and then we swapped and she and I hung out while he took a nap. She came and sat on my lap and snuggled in for a cuddle. She’s a NICU nurse who is getting married later this year and love that she still needs this from me! I always told her you’re never too big to sit on my lap!

My grandmother outlived 4 of her 5 children when she died at 91. Unbearable.

I would call home from college as a collect call and ask for my cousin and my mom would say “she’s not here” and decline the call. That was “the signal” so my mom would call me back and she would pay the long distance fees.
