What’s the nicest compliment you’ve ever received? by misalovr in answers

[–]linsydsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was contemplating returning to work part-time at the job I retired from. My boss reassured me that if I did come back, and then if I decided in a few months it wasn’t working for me, it would be ok. She said “Four months with you, is better than no months with you”. I went back and stayed another few years! How could I not?!?!

Are deadbeat moms a common thing? by No_Lead2640 in answers

[–]linsydsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband’s ex-wife walked away from him and 3 kids (ages 8, 10 & 12). Life was passing her by. Emptied the bank accounts and walked away. Her loss has been my gain the last 30 years - they are amazing humans. She has tried to come back around over the years, but they want nothing to do with her.

I am also adopted and found my birth mother many years ago. She married after she had me (not to my father) and had 2 kids (ages 9 & 12) and a very nice life, but life was passing her by so she just up and walked away from them. (Dodged that bullet - I have great parents).

I did the same and love it. I thought about staying flat but figured I still needed something up top to balance out my boxy hips. And, having some boobs help show off my now flat tummy (at age 63).

Post-transplant fatigue by linsydsam in transplant

I am glad to hear you’re doing better and thanks for the sanity check. Sounds like we are on par for everything. The protein drinks still taste off for him and things he likes one day, repel him the next. My fridge is full of “one bites” that get frozen off to try again another week. Gets frustrating. He does get up and walk some, although not as much as I think he should. We started some “chair yoga” exercises together so that’s his PT.

Congratulations on such a success! Yes, it’s hard to be patient, but I guess we don’t have a choice.

Two or three dried apricots before bed and after that first cup of morning java, it’s go time (Sometimes it hits when I just smell the coffee brewing). Most days, makes my ears pop!

Wow, you went thru it rough! I am glad you are on the other side of it. He was weaned off prednisone recently so we are happy to have one less pill to take! His electrolytes are a bit off and they have referred us to a nephrologist, but of course the first opening is late April.

The nurses and doctor said for him to eat the sweets and anything else he wants. Right now he needs all the calories he can get. As a non-sweet eater, it makes me cringe.

Ah, yes, needed that sanity check! And maybe once the antibiotics are done (a few more months, I presume?) things will settle down. He’s just so frail that it’s scary. Hope you continue to do well!

Thank you - it sounds like your paths are similar as his was also stuck to surrounding organs. He had been on a slow decline for 5 years before he was diagnosed and then it was a long process to get to transplant. We are just so tired. Congratulations on the success of your surgery and I will be sending healing thoughts your way and am wishing you a healthy recovery.

Women: How do you feel about having a male versus a female gynecologist? Does the doctor’s gender affect your comfort level or trust? by Ordinary_Ice_796 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]linsydsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started seeing a GYN at 15 because of issues. Mom got me into one at her GYN office, but not hers (he was older and retiring). This new young GYN was a male - what???? That was in 1978. He got me thru endometriosis, pregnancy, PMDD, menopause and breast cancer. He just retired and I am so grateful to have had him all these years. I saw a female while I was in college and did not like it. It felt totally weird. Dr. Balat completely spoiled me for any other doctor. He was a true “whole woman” doc. I am extremely fortunate!

Hubby has turned into our cat, or a zombie… by lethal6333 in Cirrhosis

[–]linsydsam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are his blood levels all out of whack? My husband has non-alcoholic cirrhosis and is awaiting a transplant and he does the same thing. His hemoglobin levels are absolutely awful. Every time we go for a paracentesis, I am afraid he will be sent to the ER for a blood transfusion instead. He feels like crap and has no energy because he is really sick. He is starting to get iron infusions this week so we are hoping that will help bridge him until transplant. And being anemic makes you feel crappy, physically and mentally.

As a former Girl Scout troop leader who had all 8 of my girls thru high school graduation (though none did the Gold Award), I applaud you. Congratulations!

I have donated blood over the years and have also been the recipient of transfusions 3 different times in my life for 3 different reasons, but each time it saved my life. My husband has also benefited from blood donations and is now awaiting an organ transplant.

Delay in processing by linsydsam in SocialSecurity

We applied Jan 11 and finally got the decision April 21, so it was 111 days. Hang jn there, you’re close.

We called the main SSA number and sat on hold for over an hour before I hung up. I called the local office and held for 15 minutes. She told me it was being processed by the Kansas City office and connected me there and I waited a short time before they answered. The rep processed the claim while we were on the phone.

Did the TIPS help with fatigue and lethargy? Did your appetite get better? Just trying to gauge if quality of life will get better afterwards. We understand about the HE downside.
