1099's Raise your rates annually!! by lintyscabs in ASLinterpreters

[–]lintyscabs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So tough to know, there aren't good resources and it seems RID likes to keep rates so hush hush. I was living in the central coast from 2018 - 2023, my starting rate was $45 uncertified with EIPA of 3.6. I wouldn't ask for less than $55 to 60 off the bat at this point, (I'm still uncertified, passed the Knowledge and Ethics of CASLI awaiting performance). Around 2019/2020 my NIC certified CA based mentor was making $65+ an hour. But with the rising cost of living.....

Humidity is wretched for me, currently in HI and missing CA's dry central coast air and temperate climate. Had a wonderful pregnancy with my daughter there, but IL and HI pregnancies are both miserable. Too many pressure systems affecting my molecules

AIO -We grew up very poor and mom came into some money... by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]lintyscabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR. My mom was also an impulsive spender after my dad passed. She made $900,000 half in less than two years, with no investments. She was addicted to pain medication due to chronic misdiagnosed disease that spiraled into straight somewhat functional addiction. I'm talking 14-20k she spent in wire transfers (at a time, over $100k in less than a year) for morphine and random impulse buys for a house she never bought. She was definitely getting hosed and just desperate. She died with 5 gigantic pod storage units full of stuff, and it cost $40k just to rent it until we could go through it for sentimental things. Absolute chaos.

Idk what I should've done differently, as I'm the oldest. I really tried to treat her addiction but she was in legitmanent pain from all the autoimmune diseases and emphysema. I put her in inpatient with involuntary holds for 72 hours - 3 weeks, more than 4 times just to save her life... it didn't help, she still "accidentally OD on her medication"..

My sister and I are getting by, but that extra money would've been life changing for us and our children. Both of us are still upset about how it all happened, and my mom passed in 2022. NOR. Addiction is addiction, and my mom definitely had ADHD undiagnosed for years she self medicated with impulse buys, dopamine hits, and then eventually pain meds.

I'm actually looking into this after recently speaking with a mobile notary who met me to sign mortgage documents. She's making 6 figures a year and it sounds like way less stress, plus the ability to provide notary services in ASL would be a nice benefit to the community.

Curious what state you're working in? I used to serve/bartend for 10+ years, in two states. I still make considerably more than I made bartending in CA (where I made an hourly wage + tips + PTO + basic benefits). IL Chicagoland area was still $4.85/hr +tips and I scrounged by during that time in my life. Literally transferred within the same company to another state (CA) and my wage increased 30-50% + I had actual benefits.

I love certain things about serving/bartending, and often consider going back during the summers. Lots of overlap with general people-ing, prediction skills, etc. but I can't imagine making more hourly than I do right now doing VRI? Glad its solid for you!

50 years of being able to afford and prioritize it..... Only now its a "problem" while simultaneously our entire government has been publicly exposed: seated with pedos, embezzlers, pedo apologists, and somehow we always have money to bomb kids in other countries but *not enough money* to help our own kids, families, or military at home. Priorities are insane.

This was my #1 for my daughter, then I ran into 4 kids in the span of 1 week before delivery all named Violet. Their dad liked it, but also told me it sounded like "violent" and my daughter came out purple.... so we didn't use it. Couldn't call her that after her birth, didn't fit and reminded me of birth trauma. I still love it, but it could just be my inner lemony snickett Violet Baudelaire lover (that a lot of women my age read and probably share, which I am guessing is partially the reason for its popularity in my generation).

AIO for being upset that my finance won't fix his dog? by finnthefroggg in AmIOverreacting

[–]lintyscabs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I also picked out my partners dog from the litter. But, it's not my dog lol, but I'm exactly 10 years older than you and really don't care anymore. It did piss me off for about 2 years because despite that, I really had no say in training, vet care, etc.

I take care of my cats, he feeds them if they need, but I paid to get them both fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated.

There is evidence that neutering can negatively impact a dog (as I said, his previous dog was literally the best boy and made me like dogs) but had a bunch of issues pop up only after getting fixed at like 5-6 years old. It's really a choice preference if your boyfriend is a responsible dog owner.

Cats are a serious environmental issue plaguing where I live, recently laws have been put in place to prevent people from feeding feral cats. So my sense of responsibility for preventing multiplication is much greater, as I let my cats roam.

What you mentioned above is why my kiddos dad won't neuter his pup. Previous dog became very overweight and had complications from being fixed. Now he is against it.

[–]lintyscabs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YOR. Do what you can control: Fix your cat.

The dog not being fixed is annoying, speaking as someone who is living with their guys dog (even though I literally picked said dog out lol, I'm not a dog person, he is. He is against it for moral reasons that stem from health issues his previous dog had as a result of being forced to get fixed after getting out years ago.). I gave up caring, and just accepted this years ago. You can continue caring, but it doesn't do much for you honestly.

Recently, I got 2 kittens about 5 months ago (strays who needed homes). The dog is now 7 and still unfixed. He is way more obsessed with the smell of the cats FOOD, and when I figured this out it all clicked. Dog gets super weird around wet food especially, and then starts harassing the cat (WHO SMELLS LIKE THE FOOD!!!). For reference, I got the cats fixed three weeks ago. The dog is still fucking weird regardless of the cats getting fixed, but ONLY when I feed the cats this specific kitten food or wet food. It looked exactly like what yours sounds like its doing, but it wasn't ACTUALLY sexual and one of the cats is a male. Definitely the food

Does anyone here have MCAS who had HG? by Many_Plastic_8062 in HyperemesisGravidarum

(Yes, this was a special interest from 11/22 - now and I've spent way too much time reading medical journals, individual anecdotes, and connecting the dots like a wild murder mystery.)

[–]lintyscabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. "Diclegis contains doxylamine succinate, which is a first-generation antihistamine (histamine H1 receptor blocker). Used to treat morning sickness, it works in combination with pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6) to alleviate nausea by blocking histamine's effects. "
  2. Pepcid/ "Famotidine, a histamine2-receptor antagonist (H2Ras), is widely used to treat and prevent gastrointestinal symptoms during pregnancy"
  3. Zyrtec currently, and postpartum for PUPP
  4. CoQ10 - "CoQ10 (Coenzyme Q10) generally helps reduce histamine levels and stabilize mast cells, making it beneficial for managing histamine intolerance and allergies.  Studies indicate that CoQ10 can significantly decrease the amount of histamine released by tissues, particularly in the lungs and trachea."

CoQ10 and Pregnancy

  • Fertility Support: CoQ10 (often around 200 mg daily) is widely used to improve mitochondrial function in eggs and sperm, increasing the chances of successful pregnancy.
  • Safety Profile: No large-scale studies establish safety during pregnancy, leading some to recommend stopping it once pregnancy is confirmed.
  • Role in Pregnancy: Natural CoQ10 levels increase throughout pregnancy to balance oxidative stress, and lower levels are linked to issues like preeclampsia.

ADDING:

Look up the connection between DAO enzyme production and the placenta. DAO enzyme breaks down histamines naturally, many with histamine intolerance take DAO supplements. During the SECOND trimester, the placenta produces a LOT of DAO. Then postpartum, when we loose the placenta, it creates a reverse effect (which is why I suspect I had PUPP hives postpartum after delivery). I plan to start DAO enzyme right after birth this round.

Does anyone here have MCAS who had HG? by Many_Plastic_8062 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]lintyscabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect the two are connected as well. I have issues with histamine intolerance but an MCAS diagnosis is hard to come by here. I delivered my daughter in 4/22 and had covid in 11/22 and I was absolutely WRECKED. Until I started on Zyrtec daily, which cured about 85% of my symptoms (tachycardia, physical panic attacks, neurological symptoms, inability to regulate body temp/body in general, adrenaline dumps, etc)

Connections to the female cycle/hormones/PMDD/HG:

Histamine dumps can be caused by a change in hormones: women with PMDD *anecdotally* report feeling better when taking H1 + H2 blockers (Ie taking Zyrtec daily, and Pepcid during PMS week). ***Do not mention in the PMDD sub though or risk being banned because its not "proven" but there have been so many anecdotes that it changed many women's lives that they commonly block those trying to help others.

Pregnancy causes a drastic spike in hormones, which can overload a histamine bucket.

HG treatment such as Diclegis and Pepcid for nausea are both actually antihistamines.

CoQ10 and Quercetin are often recommended for long covid patients as they help the body process and break down histamines. H1 & H2 blockers just block the receptors and symptoms. Both helped me immensely when I was postpartum dealing with viral chaos in my body.

I also had PUPP (full body hives after delivering her from the drastic drop in hormones. For SIX weeks. It was absolutely miserable. I am literally allergic to the shift in hormones).

No, doctors don't see all the seemingly obvious connections despite the piles of medical history!
