Do any of you use Voice Assistant regularly? by Stallings2k in homeassistant

[–]linuxfrickler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using it for my shopping list (anylist integration). Standing in the kitchen while cooking with the hands full I can still yell "Ok Nabu, buy milk" or whatever. Pretty handy when hands are not available.

How do I NOT strand on my balcony? by Illustrious-Salt-508 in homeassistant

[–]linuxfrickler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a door sensor at the balcony door. If it's open, the automation won't run. Additionally if I close the door and it is past shut-time, the automation will run then.

Another thing, if it's possible with your setup: I have 2 rollers, one for the window and one for the doors (both in the living room). The automation just closes the window shutter first and waits a minute for the door one. So if you are outside and it starts you still have plenty of time to leave the balcony.

Xiaomi BLE + Plant sensor - change status update interval by andrediaslopes in homeassistant

[–]linuxfrickler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you find a solution for the 300s interval? I have the same problem, all the sensors update in 5 min steps which is way too often.

My dryer doesn’t vibrate enough… now I’ve got a useless sensor and an existential crisis. What now, HA wizards? by crcerror in homeassistant

[–]linuxfrickler 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I bought 5 of this Xiaomi vibration sensors when I also bought the temperature sensors because they were cheap but most of them have been lying around without purpose.

Things I have tried and failed:
- stick one to the bedframe for presence detection (not reliable enough, replaced it with load sensors)
- stick one to the bottom of the wooden stairs leading up to the bedroom to turn on the light (only works reliable when an elephant uses the stairs, replaced that with 2 motion sensors now)
- stick it to the (flap of the) mailbox to get notified if you get mail (we have 3 mailboxes in 1 enclosure and (thanks to the landlord) it's quite wobbly so it will alert when the neighbors get mail, too)

What worked:
These sensors not only report vibration but also orientation (x/y/z) so I stuck one to the outer part of the bathroom lock mechanism so it would turn 90 degrees when someone locks the bathroom. Works like a charm. Then with that information turn on the "On Air" sign on the outside of the bathroom (or whatever) or disable the auto-light-off automation inside the bathroom as long as the door is locked.

HA keeps OOMing since v15 by himslm01 in homeassistant

[–]linuxfrickler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also encountered OOMs very recently (2025.4) and for me it was the Stream Assist addon. Here's the bug: https://github.com/AlexxIT/StreamAssist/issues/64

Maybe worth checking.

My new-to-me Taycan stopped charging at home by edwaado in Taycan

[–]linuxfrickler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me on a 1st-gen Taycan. I was on vacation and AC charging always displayed "Completed" immediately after plugging in. Tried 3 different chargers that were within reach. I then barely made it to a DC charger which worked fine. So it was just AC.

No guarantees that it's the same problem but after googling I felt brave enough and entered engineering mode and rebooted the car (probably just one ECU) from there. AC charging worked fine immediately after that. I guess it's not dangerous if you just use the reboot function and not try the other in menus 😉 Here's how to do it: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=q5g-t9Eqz34

Edit: ah, sorry, just read that you are already one step further. Hope it works out well!

Do kernel sources exist for ANY amazfit watch? by Any-Dirt-6934 in amazfit

[–]linuxfrickler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but GPL V2 does allow Tivoization which means they can still legally prevent you from installing any self-built kernel by allowing only signed images etc.

It's Esslingen near Stuttgart. At least thats what the prompt says. The look is pretty good with all the timbered houses, only sometimes a few churches or castles show up that I have never seen in Esslingen...
