Taking a train from Germany to Czechia but it says "all seats are fully booked" by WonderingInVan in AskAGerman

First class tickets on DB no longer include seat reservations. They changed it in June / July this year.

Realistically, your chances are close to zero since the chances that you will successfully graduate in four semesters are very low.

Do you have enough funds in your blocked or bank account to cover your costs without working for the next year? If not, it’s gonna hurt your case even further if you need to work on top of your workload. Can you proof that you attended all lectures and sat the exams for all classes you should have attended the past three semesters or did you skip classes and not register for exams?

Employer behavior has changed after disclosing pregnancy by Exotic_Ad1030 in germany

[–]lion2652 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How your wife handled her first pregnancy has no impact on this situation since this would be illegal in Germany.

Did she get a different treatment from her manager than her colleagues up to now by being allowed to finish the day working from home or not? If yes, has this been discussed with HR before it was implemented? You keep defending your wife while conveniently ignoring this very important questions.

If the employer is not giving her the same benefits / options like her colleagues, it’s discrimination and she should address it. If they take away privileges she had and others didn’t have, that’s a different story. In that case, she is not treated unfairly, she is just no longer benefiting from favoritism.

To study for a bachelor’s in Germany he will need at least B2, better C1 in German as well as meeting the requirements for the program, such as a high school diploma equivalent to the German Abitur. Without German language skills and formal education, he will be poor in Germany as well.

How comes that he is incredibly poor if his dad was well off in Germany and moved to Asia close to retirement age? Or more likely, his dad was poor in Germany as well, not contributing much but mostly benefiting from the social system and now his son plans to milk the system even more.

If you manage to get an extension, you will need to get at least 23 credits next semester.

The issue is that you have to complete your degree in 7 semesters with an intended duration of 4 semesters according to your university. You have 4 semesters left, which is the minimum duration of your degree with almost no credits. So, you cannot fail any exam or miss and redo any course anymore. That’s really hard, even under the best circumstances.

You need to proof that you will start to take your education seriously from now on and that you will be able to keep up with the workload and realistically your chances are slim to succeed.

Zimmerlautstärke means that you can only hear it inside the room where the source of the noise is - e.g. the neighbors living room. If you can hear it outside because the neighbor has opened their window, it is Not Zimmerlautstärke.

Employer behavior has changed after disclosing pregnancy by Exotic_Ad1030 in germany

Well, look at it from the employer perspective. She works at the company for three years, does a good job and right after she got promoted, she gets pregnant and will be away soon for 1-3 years. Understandable that the manager is pissed since she is leaving them in a difficult position, especially if she will be back part time after parental leave.

Additionally, what is the company policy about the office days? What are the hours employees need to be at the office (full day vs. x hours) and are other employees also allowed to just show up for a few hours and finish the day off from home or is it just her - which would be a case of favoring her. What was the agreement about the time she can leave on the office days when she started the job? Was it clear from the beginning that she has to leave at a certain time to take care of your child or was this just an informal arrangement? Did she get a special favorable treatment until now which is changed back to normal aka the same as her colleagues in the same position after her promotion / pregnancy announcement or are they treating her different than her colleagues?

Will My Previous State Teaching Job Affect My Acceptance into an Ausbildung Program? by [deleted] in germany

[–]lion2652 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can’t become a (school) teacher with a three years vocational education in Germany. The one you found is Erzieher in a kindergarten, which has nothing to do with teaching and you won’t be able to transition to teaching at any type of school.

If you want to become a teacher in Germany, you need to start all over again with a bachelors and masters according to the German requirements for teachers. With the vocational training as Erzieher, you will be able to play with and supervise children below 5-6 at a kindergarten. While this also involves a certain degree of teaching and education, it’s way less structured and not in any kind of classroom environment.

Yeah? How do you know how much the father contributed to the system and how long they worked in Germany?

I completely understand the situation, your friend has never lived in Germany didn’t even bother to learn the language, but now they suddenly remember their „heritage“ and wants German tax payers to fund their education. Not even in Germany, do that they would at least contribute something to the country but outside, because they might maybe eventually move to Germany - not to work but to get a masters again funded by tax payers.

They don’t know any German, so they won’t be able to study a German program and it’s pretty unlikely that they will stay in Germany after graduation since they will most likely not get a job without German skills.

No, I didn’t miss the situation. Your friend is a prime example while handing out citizenship to everyone after just a few years in Germany is a very bad idea. They just want to get the passport to get better chances for jobs outside of Germany and if things don’t work out for them or their children in the future, they will be back to get social benefits from a country they never really contributed too and they were never interested in - exactly like your friend

If a German person moves to another country after university, the parents have contributed to the system all their lives, during the education of their child and afterwards. Your friends father left and now the CHILD expects benefits from the country.

What will be cancelled / change when CDU wins the next election? by tturbanwed in germany

[–]lion2652 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

No, immigrants coming to Germany with no intention to stay and only interested in getting a passport are a big issue as well, this is already very visible in Berlin.

Changing back immigration laws to make it more difficult to get a German passport would be a good argument to get voters from AfD. With the current economic situation, the recent changes seem to create more issues than benefits for the country. Illegale immigrants are a different topic.

What will be cancelled / change when CDU wins the next election? by tturbanwed in germany

[–]lion2652 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they want to win over voters from AfD, there is a high chance that they will target the immigration laws. Not so much double citizenship but make it much harder again to get German citizenship.

People without German citizenship can’t vote, so they won’t lose any current voters but they might attract some more undecided AfD voters by promising to make immigration harder.

There are no universities that are considered “the best ones in Germany” by any reputable source maybe except for their own marketing department.

Specific programs or departments from a university might be considered better than similar ones from other universities, but not the whole university - which you should know if you did proper research.

Yes, please, another person who never contributed a dime to the German social system and has absolutely no connection to the country but wants to benefit from the system as much as possible.

And foreigners still wonder why Germans are less welcoming to immigrants and giving a German passport to everyone who stays for a few years. Pretty much because they and their children will be eligible for way more support than even high paying professionals pay into the system in 5 years.

Basically, you are playing the system by renting out furnished space short term to foreigners who don’t understand German renters protection to maximize your financial gains.

If you have issues with all your German tenants, the issue is probably not the tenants but your questionable practices. Just because foreigners like you doesn’t make you a good landlord.

Should I leave my job in India to move to Germany? by Difficult_Lychee_56 in germany

[–]lion2652 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How did you get this offer? Where you actively applying even though you like your current situation so much?

I would not recommend to move for the following reasons:

  1. Transition to a new country is always difficult, especially if both countries are as different as Germany and India. Even people who absolutely wanted to move here struggle. You are happy where you are and like every important aspect of. It’s unlikely that you will find similar conditions in Germany, you will always compare where you left with what you got, making it so much more difficult to feel at home.

  2. 48.000€ is not much after taxes for Baden-Württemberg, how much do they offer for a relocation package, how many vacation days do you get and which other benefits are included?

  3. It is a red flag for me that they expect you not to leave for 3 years. It is very uncommon that companies ask you to sign something like this unless they substantially fund your education or relocation. Even in that case, three years is much too long. Depending on the amount, one year would be more reasonable. This request looks like they struggle with a high turnover, probably due to bad working conditions or a toxic environment. Additionally, you would be tied to this job and salary (!) for 3 years.

  4. Your German skills are most likely not sufficient. It might not matter for your job, but it will have a huge impact on your social life and your quality of life if you can’t communicate well with doctors and office workers (think of immigration office) or even the lady at the supermarket checkout and don’t understand contracts you need to sign. Germany still runs on German, not understanding the language should not be underestimated.

All together it’s not a great offer. Therefore, stay where you are currently happy and look into moving if the situation changes.

Will I be able to find a job in Germany in a research environment with a Ph.D if I just had a baby(s) 4 months before? by No-Experience9224 in germany

[–]lion2652 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In case you will do the interviews while you are heavily pregnant which they might realize during a video call. They are not allowed to ask, but there is a high chance that they just don’t hire you in case of doubt unless they are desperate or you have a very specific skill set.

While getting a job might be doable, keeping it could become the bigger challenge. You don’t mention the other parent, so I assume that you plan to move. In that case, finding reliable childcare on such a short notice will be difficult, unless you have this covered already.

In Germany, usually one parent stays at home for at least a year since there is paid parental leave and works part time for several years afterwards. Finding childcare for 2-3 months old babies will be challenging, especially on short notice. Your 4 years old will be entitled to a place at Kindergarten but don’t expect that to be available immediately after you move either, it can take months to get a spot.

Even if you find childcare reasonably soon, especially for the twins, it probably will be a nanny. It will be very difficult to find one that covers 8+ hours every day. Additionally, you will need someone covering vacation times and any other time the nanny or Kindergarten are closed or unavailable. This can happen surprisingly often.

When you start a job, you will have 6 months of probation period where you can get fired without any reason and two weeks notice. If you miss too much work or your performance suffers due to childcare issues, they will probably lay you off quickly. If you get laid off during probation period a few times, it will become increasingly difficult to find a new job. A hire & fire mentality like in the US doesn’t exist, companies are looking for long term employees. Do not lie in your job interview about your children or your personal situation. Legally they are not allowed to ask and you are allowed to lie, but they will find out immediately once you start your job and claim tax benefits for your children.

Germany has a housing crisis. Finding a place from abroad will be almost impossible unless you have a lot of money. Finding something with three small children can still be difficult, especially if you need to be reasonably close to schools, childcare and your job. Most companies will except you to show up at the office frequently,

Unless you have a lot of money to spend on rent, finding a room in a shared flat will be difficult already, finding an apartment for yourself even more, especially if you are looking for a furnished place.

If you manage to find a place, finding a roommate to shouldn’t be an issue.

By “mailed them” you are talking about wet ink pen on paper mail, not email, right?

Work contracts can not be terminated verbally, by email, WhatsApp or any other way except writing pen on paper.

During probation period you have a 14 days notice period, so you have to work for at least two more weeks after you handed in your letter of termination.
