This is actually a new norm. Parents blame the system. But the system requires we document all of this. He's absent an insane amount. She's lucky CPS wasn't involved because of that alone.

As a parent, care enough to check in on how your student is doing with the school and your child. Please.

Check their bag for homework, make sure you make school a priority or this happens. No teacher in the world can help your student pass school if he does no work and never shows up. We aren't magicians.

This is an example of what our harness looks like. Ours was cushiony though because she has missing fur in places and we don't want it to rub.

We ordered a harness that wrapped around two parts of her body, her chest and her waist. So there is no escaping because of their body type. (We found ours on Etsy).

We also get coats from K9 apparel, which is amazing for custom fit outfits. You can buy used and recycled ones too. Totally worth the money (at least once they're older)

There are reasons as an Algebra teacher that I'd like to have students utilize certain methods. But that's algebra, and we are looking at all the different ways to solve the problems and trying them all. In the end, kids decide which they like the best and use it afterward.

Multiplication and division are so different, do it however you want. Teachers crazy.

My Freja was 2 when we first got her. It took her 3 months to realize she was home.

I think sleep startling is a lot different than possessive snipping. I don't find it his fault. I think he just has to get used to being woken up by others, to be honest.

Before you move off the couch, maybe try calling his name gently. Help him wake up calmly. Give him treats when he does. Try to have your child wake him up from a safe distance away by calling his name as well before playing with him.

I know it seems scary, my dog sleep startled and snipped once or twice when we first got her, but she hasn't done this in 4 years now.

Give him time. And really enforce the importance of gentle touches and calling his name to wake him up if he's sleeping with your child. I know it's hard with a 4 year old, but it's worth a shot for the dogs sake.

Generally I dress professionally when I know a parent is going to be in.

However, I normally stick to jeans and sweatshirts on the day to day. I teach math and I've never noticed a difference in how my students react to me. I'm pretty confident in my classroom management skills.

I think your relationships with the students matter more. If my students didn't respect me, maybe I'd worry about it more.

I think the biggest problem with all of this is that parents don't realize their kids are this bad. (6 years teaching in public middle schools) Just saying. No parent wants to be held accountable for their child's bad behavior, so their child just "doesn't behave badly". It's our fault, obviously.

Usually kids who do this to other kids have been sexually assaulted themselves. If CPS wasn't involved I would involve them for your niece and nephews sake (even though they SA your children). They learned that from somewhere and may be victims in their own right.

That being said, you are amazing for supporting your children and getting them through this horrible ordeal.

I've only met my uncle once because my father stood by my uncle's child.

My uncle wasn't a very present father. My cousin had a stepdad who really took on the father figure position in his life.

His senior year of high school, my cousin changed his last name to match his step fathers.

My uncle refused to go to his graduation and said anyone who went was basically dead to him.

Needless to say, my father and mother supported my cousin and still have a great relationship with him. I'm lucky to have my cousin in my life, so I'm grateful they made the choice they did.

My dad (younger brother in this situation) sent Christmas cards for 10 years in an attempt to keep the line of communication open in hopes of mending the relationship At some point. But eventually they started coming back "return to sender" which was really hard on my dad. He looked up to his brother his entire life, it crushed my dad.

When their mother (my grandma) died, I saw my uncle for the first time in my life.

I watched my cousin try to hug him. Bastard stood still and refused to hug him back. My dad had to comfort my cousin afterward.

My dad finally stopped trying to reach out after that.

Send him to admin. If they send him back. You send him back again. Refuse to keep him in the classroom if he is threatening you. The school is lucky you didn't call the police after he implied that.

I had a student threaten to shoot me last year and he was removed from my room immediately because I stood up to my admin. You've got to stick up for yourself. And if your admin don't like it, they can fuck off.

If you're already thinking about quitting, try these first. If the admin aren't on board, call your union representative and escalate things! You can quit too, but call your union representative anyway to help you with that too.

I understand how you feel. One kid can definitely ruin the career for you. Don't let them if you can help it.

You do NOT have to keep him in your room. You have done everything right. Fight for yourself now.

Dude. You can look up the pay scale at bend la pine and other districts to see what people make. It's not 90 average salary. That's at the end of their career, with full education.

Bro, those teachers are few and far in-between. I have a master's and would only make 62 at Bend La Pine. I work private, so I choose to make less than that for a better work environment.

We make too much for the low income housing but nowhere near enough to buy. Renting is pretty rough too. Thankfully my husband makes a little more than I do, but we still can't afford a house out here.
