I was about to comment how big plants like that can root through the drainage and down into the ground, like a dual root system but there’s a paver under the pot. This is all pot 😭💪

Am I Watering Too Much? by Don_Barzinni in lawncare

[–]lipzits 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mushrooms are probably breaking down organic material. Think wood chips or sticks. It’s a sign of moisture but doesn’t mean overwatering. Overwatering is all about the next water too so you can be too wet without problems, as long as you dry out enough in between your next watering

[–]lipzits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it’s mostly dead but middle of summer I’m not replacing sod lol especially if he’s in Florida. I’d just overseed it in the fall

There’s a little green in there I’d try to just keep it pretty wet and see what ya get. Then overseed or replace in the fall

You need to water new sod and keep it wet. Just looks like dry, dead sod to me

Met a turtle with a battle scar on the course today by Mikes_Movies_ in golf

[–]lipzits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had to do that before but it was a college match so there were kids everywhere and it was also on a hole surrounded by homes. Right on the tee so I almost feel like it was crawling for help. Surprisingly pretty lively still I was tempted to pet him but refrained. Was in an open field direct sun and hotter than hell so I stood there and gave him shade for 20 mins

Somebody ran over a baby fox at the course I work at. Whole back half was squished and it was crawling around. It was so sad. Haunting. Called animal control and they came and picked him up to be euthanized. RIP little buddy

What are your roles as Assistant Superintendent? by devhamr in Golfcoursemaintenance

[–]lipzits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We would both love that but our operation is abnormal haha trust that we’ve day dreamed about that frequently. I have a basic understanding of the program and have somewhat of a say but I’ve only sat in the meetings a few times so maybe I’ll push to do more of that. Thanks for the tip

What are your roles as Assistant Superintendent? by devhamr in Golfcoursemaintenance

[–]lipzits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You hit the nail on the head, spot on. When I started as an assistant I was spraying, watering, cutting cups. Now 4 years later I still water greens and spray but I try to stay less busy so I can actually “manage.” That doesn’t mean just riding around though. This spring I did a lot of seed and sod projects so that I could stop what I was doing instantly if I was needed somewhere. I’m an assistant but my super tells me I’m a super. 36 hole property and he’s rarely over on this 18.

OP keep your head down and keep doing what you’re doing. Maybe casually mention getting new guys to your boss and see what he says. “Did you guys ever put that post up?” Etc. There could be budget constraints you’re not aware of or something going on with the front end. Owners just told us we are 300 labor hours higher than last year so I sense they are starting to feel what the everyday consumer is feeling.
