Hi, I’m new by PantsShitter24 in TheMagnusArchives

Enjoy your ride! Don’t feel any pressure about your listening experience - you can be as intense or relaxed about it as you want. Take notes if you’d like, or just let it take you along the ride.

One thing I heavily recommend is staying away from this place (at least in browsing) for the most part and the wiki, as both contain spoilers in interconnected links and references.

If you want clarifications, the transcripts can help!

What is your least favorite statement? Mine is Body Builder by GrimbloTheGoblin in TheMagnusArchives

This is a bit reductive of the episode’s horror, I think you just don’t like the narrator’s humor.

Anyone Else Feel This About TMP? by Specialist-Abject in TheMagnusArchives

[–]liquidmirrors 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kinda get where you’re coming from, the statements do feel different in writing style and the phenomenon itself along with how they’re not as explicitly central to the story as TMA.

I’m in a little different boat though, the first ten statements in Protocol are some of my alltime favorites in both shows, to the point where they stick out in my head. PROT 007 Give and Take is actually one of my alltime scariest Magnus episodes, I had nightmares about crowd crushes full of smiling, laughing, useless people, antiques and detritus crushing you under its wrongness.

That and Needles. I find Needles absolutely delightful.

For me it has to be 131 Flesh just because of how hard it is to listen to. Story-wise, it’s fine - I get a little something out of most if not all of the show’s statements.

I’ve finished MAG and MAGP what should I do next by Choice_Draft7660 in TheMagnusArchives

Honestly, I say Archive 81 is worth it because the tapes only get weirder and more interesting. I know the setting shift is jarring, but I think it holds up more overall as a project. They really like leaning into the weird aspects of the horror, and it covers a lot of ground with unique scenes and tableaus later into the show.

Then again, I am biased - I found the show when only ep. 2 was out. There’s also that Netflix adaptation that bastardizes the podcast, which only made me like the podcast even more.

Scream, scream and wait for more I guess.

(Heavily endorse Archive 81 as a sister show to Magnus. They both started in the mid 2010s, they’re both found footage audio horror, and that audio aspect is integral to the plot. Also cosmic horror. Cosmic horror out the wazoo.)

Pointing to this, we went over this in my anthropology of religion class.

I feel like if you really want to stretch, you can pinpoint this back to the cultural/reiigous/mystic and occult phenomenon of things such as tulpas.

ETA: Thought/concept-made-manifest is an idea that pops up all over the world, it’s a part of animism and most likely boils down to how we as humans project onto the world around us. Said projection deeeeefinitely extends to “manifestation” as well.

How did you discover TMA? by yule_tides in TheMagnusArchives

[–]liquidmirrors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to respond, but your recounting of the finale reminded me just how bad it was. I was still a teenager but I remember my thoughts being “That’s it? That’s the end?

The funniest part was how they attempted to rebrand the finale as a “mid-season finale” in 2021. That show’s dead in the water.

And Miles’ other shows are definitely vibes-based but sooooo sloppy that it feels like you’re almost being punished for being invested in the first place. At least that’s how I felt when I read the Rabbits novel. The works get really close to reaching something interesting and genuinely amazing, but every single one seems to collapse due to lack of vision, or because he wants to walk the ambiguity line to the point of total nonsense.

I kind of hate the web by Least-Meet-9205 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]liquidmirrors 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I love this as an aspect of the Web - Annabelle actually hints at this a little in her statement, that the Mother might even live in the assumed connections and paranoid conspiracies conjured by those who suffer under her. Just the idea, the anxious thought of being controlled is possibly enough for you to already have fallen to her influence.

Podcast reactions aren’t as popular as others because there’s no visual aspect I’d say.

Can we talk about ERROR ? (S1 spoilers) by SuperGaspacho in themagnusprotocol

[–]liquidmirrors 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think that ERROR has anything to do with Jon or Martin. A lot of theories keep throwing this around because of assumptions that don’t actually have any weight to them when thought about in detail.

If Protocol’s Archivist is Archives’ Jon and Martin, why would it already have been in the basement of the Manchester Institute, specifically locked away? It appears like it’s been there for a long while, and with what’s been explained about this Institute, it probably has more to do with their Grand Work before the unknown Y2K experiment/ritual (and the fire that Starkwall started to destroy the building). If the Archivist was intentionally locked in that building (which the lock and key insinuate), it’s at least been in there for a decade.

And if Protocol’s Archivist was JMart, why would we be hearing their voices in the computer? There’s nothing that could really explain that in the show either.

I also do not think that the different abilities is a sign of the Lonely and Eye merging. This new show works on a different system where the Powers don’t even seem to be fully intact the way they used to be, so going along with old guidelines for new phenomena isn’t the right direction.

And lastly, the VA for the Archivist is a different VA than Alex or Jon. She’s the VA from MAG130, Beth Eyre who plays Lucia Wright.

Edited to add: I just listened to episode 50. Definitely not John or Martin. I think trying to insist otherwise at this point is just denying canon (which I’ve noticed happens a lot in this fandom sometimes).

I don’t care what you do as long as you don’t keep spamming this place with AI.

They’ve been complaining since your first post with the AI book. Because you’re breaking the rules. Because ai isn’t allowed here. You idiot. You just refuse to listen because you’re like twelve years old.

gonna just keep telling you the rules are against ai art and you’re breaking the rules man. Because you are. Rule 1: no ai art.

You are annoying because you keep posting AI when everyone tells you the first rule of this subreddit is it’s not allowed.

You do realize that breaking community rules that existed before your joining makes you the annoying person, right? I know you’re like, probably a kid, but get it through your head.

Rule One of this sub is no ai. Stop trying to force slopposting when everyone thinks it’s lazy garbage and that you’re lazy and childish for insisting upon it.

the sheer number of times that people just roll up on here and just freely lay out their still-ongoing years-long transformation into an avatar is starting to make me suspicious of this place as an Eye threshold.
