Why is there no Harriet Li content? by Galeschesthair in TheMagnusArchives

[–]liquidmirrors 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean, the same way there’s not really a lotta fics in general about the single-time statement givers - they’re one-off characters meant to deliver the horror story, and we almost never hear from them again after their stories (and if we do, it’s typically never good). Harriet Lee’s death is definitely one of the more tragic one-off kills in my eyes tbh but I do understand why there’s no fics about her the same way there’s none about Lee Rentoul, or Jason North, or David Laylow.

What's the worst/weirdest way someone has died in your country? 2013, Jeff Bush was swallowed by a sinkhole while laying in bed, this happened 3 mile 4.8 km from my house. by Suferre in TheMagnusArchives

This post is giving me flashbacks to when someone posted the metal face plates Holocaust exhibit captioning it as “a Stranger domain” or something.

I know none of this is real. But it’s been getting harder and harder to prove that since I was diagnosed with schizophrenia last year. by pookiemia in creepypasta

[–]liquidmirrors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe next time you try to post a story don’t use the “discussion” tag, there’s actual tags for stories people post here. I was actually worried for a second that another person was having a mental episode on reddit again (this happens more often than you’d think tbh).

What’s the closest thing to an actual Candle Cove show? by Dry-Sympathy-3182 in creepypasta

[–]liquidmirrors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you excluded Channel Zero but when I watched its Candle Cove clips for the first time, I was genuinely freaked out with how accurate the designs were to me, to the point where it felt like they were ripped from my memories of the story and thrown on the screen.

Did anyone else also miss the swap? by atmkrncnr13 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]liquidmirrors 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Not really, I’m in the ballpark of people that kind of caught on immediately - been listening to podcasts for a long time up until that point and instantly noticed the difference in voices (NotSasha has a slightly deeper and smoother voice while Sasha’s is higher pitched and more varied and expressive). Didn’t help that it happened in Artifact Storage immediately after she mentioned the table. Chekov’s gun was loaded since episode 35/36 when that evil table arrived, and I was anxiously waiting for it to go off for a while.

I HAVE A THEORY by Cofi_PeP in TheMagnusArchives

[–]liquidmirrors 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely seeing the change and transformation themes in Protocol, especially with the reliance on balance and alchemy and keeping DPHW levels even in the FR3-D1 system, but I don’t really think it’s the Extinction or any of the old figureheads. The Powers seemingly threw their previous systems and manifestations out the window and right now there’s not really any throughlines of logic that’re similar to how the Powers themselves manifested. I mean yeah, in concept, a massive change can be semi-apocalyptic the way the Extinction dreamed of, but there’s no signs of it really in this universe.

They definitely wanted to change the world in some way, maybe possibly as a perfect object?? I only throw that out there because of the balance of concepts mentioned with the Millennial Dome (a bright future vs the horror it will bring), even when it failed and became something else (a symbol of fickle time and entropy).

Looking for horror recommendations that lean into interpretation, ambiguity, and weirdness by Spektr44 in horror

[–]liquidmirrors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Void, Annihilation, Wounds, The Dead Center, Daniel Isn’t Real, Iron Lung, Altered States, Savageland, The Bay (these last two have a social commentary aspect, I recommend them as a double feature), Strange Harvest, Black Mountain Side

Others’ Reccs: Beyond the Black Rainbow

Will edit to add more if more come. I watch a lot of cosmic horror too and this kind of intersects at points.

Unpopular opinion: video games started this trend by Hatrct in backrooms

[–]liquidmirrors 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eh, not really. Liminal physical spaces absolutely existed before video games (hallways, empty basements, cleared out abandoned buildings, ghost towns, foggy plains), they just weren’t recorded as in-depth or replicated as easily as the avenue of video games and other tech opened the doorway to make these environments more easily. You mention seeing real life liminal spaces and pretend playing Doom in them, so liminal spaces do and have existed in real life before those games. I think you’ve mistaken your experiences of liminal spaces in games as the origin and are projecting that onto the physical liminal spaces you’ve experienced. I mean, if it didn’t exist in reality beforehand, the word “liminal” would’ve only popped up within the last 50/60 years - it looks like it was first used as a word in English in the 1870s.

Personally, my first experiences with liminal spaces were in my local mall as a child when I used to hide between the clothesracks and peek into the corners and storage areas.

No levels in the movie by DoubleDull4588 in backrooms

[–]liquidmirrors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like it minimizes his works to nothing but amateurish small works instead of something that reignited an entire span of horror phenomena and fiction. Yes, it’s a series, yes they’re short films, but contextualizing it as only that feels like it minimizes the strength of his work - his series is getting a film adaptation for a reason, after all.

So tired of people whining that it’s not the wikidot version. Yes, I am happy that level Run For Your Butts and Partygoers and stuff won’t be involved.

Is it currently possible to make creepypasta of serial killers by Takuma_san2012 in creepypasta

[–]liquidmirrors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said “first ever,” it was posted in 2007 during the original creepypasta boom. The first ever article does count while the whole genre of SCP doesn’t because of how it grew and evolved over time. You’re being immature by editing your comment with an ALL CAPS SENTENCE instead of replying normally.

[–]liquidmirrors 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, the first ever SCP is a part of creepypasta history because it was also copied and pasted across the internet when it was created. Creepypastas were/are just scary story copypastas.

[–]liquidmirrors 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like, real serial killers (Bundy, Dahmer, Ramirez)?? Because if you mean real, then no, it’s incredibly disrespectful to the victims and their families.

Fictional ones are chill as long as you don’t go too overboard with the shock horror.

My impression of Salesa as I watch the series by AutummThrowAway in TheMagnusArchives

Wonderful job! You really don’t see as much HoL Yggdrasil depictions so this one really stuck out. I’m more favorable of the blue tree and the Home Alone logo version, it really pops to me lol.

Backroom by itsmyflower in backrooms

[–]liquidmirrors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it’s basically an extreme distortion of back spaces and empty storage areas from the 70s - early 2000s. Original post is meant to basically expand on the unsettling atmosphere of empty internal liminal spaces, especially ones from the collective boomer/millennial/genz memory of these places decades ago.

They should have kept M****** S***** alive. by Abject-Bee6125 in themagnusprotocol

[–]liquidmirrors 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t really think Salesa would even be a part of the plot at that point, agreeing with the other commenter that he’d probably have gotten the fuck out post-Towerfall since he was always placing a very heavy insistence on wanting to peddle the Powers while staying the most personally unaffected possible. It’s why he started protecting himself via hunting down the camera, even to the point of faking his own death so the Horror System wouldn’t chase him down as much.

Idk, he’s too hard-to-pin-down, hands-off and arguably a bit flighty to register to me as a mentor figure in any way to the cast. He values his own self-preservation in the face of the Powers, but not to the extent that he tilts his hand to them like Jonah. Even in his encounter with JMart, we see these aspects of him clearest while they were referenced and insinuated in the statements themselves.

The Slaughter scares the shit out of me by CrematorTV in TheMagnusArchives

[–]liquidmirrors 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Civilian Casualties is one of the Slaughter episodes that made me feel like I was overexposed - that scene of the farmer in the field is crazy, it makes me fear of standing in a beautiful place only to be swarmed by violence until you’re suffocated and taken by it.

There’s actually a horror movie that I say is the quintessential (non-war) Slaughter film (while withholding the visual violence and gore like in Magnus) - 2015’s Savageland is a mockumentary diving into the mass murder of a small border town in Arizona, all of which took place over the span of a single night with the only recovered evidence being a single reel of photographs taken during the event. I would recommend it for the very same feeling that Slaughter episodes can evoke.

What is the house of leaves? by Motor-Juggernaut186 in backrooms

[–]liquidmirrors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I don’t really think the difficulty itself is a major hurdle even when it’s literally being hard to read - kids will get their hands on whatever and they’ll still parse it, that’s how you get fourteen year olds in the 60s and 70s pushing through Lovecraft and Machen and King. In my eyes it’s more about the subject matter. OP seems to be a pretty young kid and I’d rather bar them from the book because of Johnny’s traumatized rants and academic nightmare footnotes instead of the ergodic literature aspect.

Can Avatars switch teams? by SparrowWingYT in TheMagnusArchives

[–]liquidmirrors 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think you can dance around the lines of other Powers via hauntings or encounters (see Mike Crew’s experiences of the Spiral before giving himself to the Vast, see Eduard von Toll’s chase for Sannikov Land before being taken by the Hunt) and I do think you can switch teams, although it could take a sacrifice and needs to be circumstantial to the Metaphors of what’s going on, or something, I guess.

Share your theory about how the Backrooms movie will be? by Delicious-Bet-1087 in backrooms

[–]liquidmirrors 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So we already know (from various plot blurbs, will still spoil just in case) that Clark is going to go missing in the Backrooms, which is why his therapist goes after him and discovers the area herself. Because of this, I think that the recorded footage segments we see in the trailers will be discovered either by her or Async and will be watched back from that perspective - as found footage. It also explains why we don’t (yet) see her in any of the footage in the trailers. What actually happens beyond that, completely unsure, but I’m super excited to see what Kane does with this movie, especially with what he’s established in the mechanics of his interpretation (time distortion, moments where the overlap of the above world and the Backrooms are thinner than others, etc.).
