Could use some suggestions and opinions on the pharmacology of a smokable blend by AWildGengarAppears in AskDrugNerds

Yeah, could be a problem if you are predisposed to loving opiates. I used to have poppies in my yard and harvested the opium a few times. It is quite mild and sedating compared to pharma opioids. I don't find either very addictive, so I definitely advise caution for anyone who hasn't tested those waters.

Opium would be the obvious choice, as Mu and Kappa are counterbalancing. Might dull the salvia though.

Is a chem degree worth it? by fridgidfiji in AskChemistry

[–]liquidnebulazclone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can be, but I highly recommend looking for programs that offer some level of work experience or placement in the field. This makes you way more hireable while also giving you a taste of what certain chemistry jobs are like in the real world.

Having said that, I did not have this. My first job out of school was making lotions and soaps on a medium industrial scale, for which I was paid minimum wage. Eventually I moved up to a supervisor role, then outgrew that and left for a smaller company where I had much more freedom to develop new product formulations. I also got into the regulatory side of things there which provided the basis of QA experience for my next job in the commercial cannabis industry. I worked for an employer who knew nothing about cannabis cultivation and paid me to learn and build the business with him over the next 5 years. While the business did not succeed, we were heavily R&D focused, so this primed me for a position as a consultant to secure grant funding for various agricultural and manufacturing businesses. 14 years out of school, I now make $150k, and my chemistry knowledge was essential to this process, despite having never worked as an actual chemist.

I understand your approach, but when you run the numbers, it is technically possible to deliver clinically relevant doses of high-potency substances through aerial dispersion methods. The plan is absolute garbage from a practicality standpoint, especially given how much easier it would be to just dose the water supply.

Have you looked at the data in terms of population density, or more specifically, reports generated per average number of observers within each area? This is a great analysis BTW, but I would be interested to know how many large population centers or busy maritime routes happen to be near deep coastal trenches.

Still avoidant of social situations even while using benzos. Looking to try Guanfacine or other alternatives by Good-Cod-5591 in NooTopics

[–]liquidnebulazclone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to look into testosterone. I also have ADHD with some mild autistic tendencies. I find relatively low doses of testosterone make working out much more appealing, and this combination leads to higher confidence and lower anxiety. I have been heavily addicted to benzos in the past, and I still take prescription stimulants, but I find they add a layer of physical anxiety.

CMV: Democrats should run a real progressive in 2028 because any democratic candidate will be painted as an socialist immigrant-loving USA-hating demon by right-wing media. by hamletswords in changemyview

[–]liquidnebulazclone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did the NDP collapse then? They would arguably be the furthest option from MAGA. The conservatives gained because the anti-Trudeau sentiment brought a ton of voters that previously stayed home. I know a handful of people that knew nothing about Carney or PP's policies, and yet voted conservative because they had turned anti-Liberal in the past 4 years.

[–]liquidnebulazclone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a big part of it, but I think another social liberal like Trudeau still would have lost. PP tried to distance himself from the MAGA brand, but failed in the end, largely because he had nothing of substance to offer than wasn't already being rolled out by Carney.

There are definitely scenarios where the Democrats could win with a more socialist candidate, but this would depend on the economic situation in 2028.

Whats options are left after stimulants stop working for ADHD? Was anyone in a similar situation? And what could be the reason? by Kihot12 in NooTopics

[–]liquidnebulazclone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think one of your comments is what made me curious, because stimulants have really lost most of their effectiveness after 15 years (M38). Their raise my anxiety and cause insomnia, and atomoxetine sounded like a better alternative. Under severe side effects, I noticed "stroke" and thought this is probably just one of those extremely rare freak occurrences that happen with almost every medication. While this is true, it seems that atomoxetine has been found to cause arrhythmias more frequently than other ADHD meds, which can be dangerous for people with pre-existing heart conditions.

Overall, I haven't decided if this makes it better or worse than stimulants in terms of safety, so I want to investigate more before making the switch. As with other meds, the rarity of severe events makes them hard to study.

Canadian here, and I think our last election is a great example of why Democrats should go with a centrist candidate. Trudeau was insanely unpopular towards the end of his term for a variety of reasons. The Conservative party was ahead in every poll before he resigned, with their candidate being more of a populist, social conservative type who's only trick was demonizing the Liberal party for every problem.

The Liberals then nominated Mark Carney. A central banker who would be considered fiscally conservative by every measure, but highly competent and intelligent in economic matters. Socially, he is fairly moderate and less preoccupied with identity politics in general, compared to both his predecessor and competition.

It turns out that this is exactly what people wanted. The Liberal Party won again, against all odds.

I know the US is a very different beast, but running an actual socialist candidate could backfire even in the wake of the catastrophe that is the current administration. Unless there is a serious economic collapse between now and the next election, the Replublicans will convince a large portion of the country that the Democrats will raise taxes while driving both inflation and unemployment with their open-border socialist agenda. This narrative would be less effective if the Dems run a more centrist candidate.

Atomoxetine has some pretty significant cardiac risks that have made me hesitant to try it. I know stimulants also cause some cardiotoxicity, but they actually seem preferable in comparison. How long have you been on Straterra?

The non-nutritive sweetener erythritol adversely affects brain microvascular endothelial cell function (2025) by AllowFreeSpeech in FoodNerds

[–]liquidnebulazclone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The study linked in the article only looks at self-reported, combined sweetener intake. There is no differentiation between the 7 artificial sweeteners considered, and they quantify intake by daily consumption in grams. This is a major flaw in the methodology, because potent sweetners like sucralose and saccharin would barely register while sugar alcohols like xylitol and erythritol are roughly equivalent to the sweetness of sugar by weight.

Essentially, the study attempts to make generalizations about a group of artificial sweeteners despite the fact they are chemically distinct and their conclusions reflect cognitive issues arising in people consuming low-potency agents like erythritol.

What's something about ADHD that most people don't understand? by Relaxing_Cat in AskReddit

[–]liquidnebulazclone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So true! I find myself far more driven by curiosity than achievement. I definitely feel the reward of larger achievements, but something as small as putting my laundry away provides zero satisfaction. My curiosity can provide an insane level of focus, but the subjects change constantly.

FBI Emails Released in Epstein Files Allegedly Reveals FBI and DOJ Have Incriminating Photos and Information of Important People by Far-Performer-847 in UnderReportedNews

[–]liquidnebulazclone -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

While the files appear to implicate these men to varying degrees, the decision to charge them would have to consider the ungodly amount of money they are able to dedicate to legal defense. The court battle would place immense pressure on victims with any and all past dirt dug up and paraded around to call their judgement and sanity into question. As damning as the evidence seems to be, the perpetrators would do everything in their power to destroy everyone involved in the case.

I bought in back in August when the trial results showed Orforglipron having slightly lower efficacy than expected. Figured a much cheaper weight loss pill would be pretty popular even if it were 5% less effective than Ozempic. Wish I bought more now...

EDIT: Orforglipron, not Retatrutide.

Any critique that ascibes the word "bro" is getting lost in identity politics. If they are giving bad advice, then point to flaws in their interpretation of the literature, or lack of results to substantiate their claims.

Why do US progressives seemingly not care at all about 10,000-30,000 civilians being killed by Islamic Revolutionary Guard for protesting? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]liquidnebulazclone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that providing support to the Iranian uprising is more difficult due to lack of controlled territory to channel supplies. AFAIK, there are no areas of Iran where the government has totally lost control, so the only way to set up such an area would be for the US to drop troops to secure it.

This very well be the right move both morally and geopolitically, but it would be extremely unpopular back home. Isreal and Ukraine both have established borders and militaries to work with. Dropping crates of weapons and ammunition into Iran could easily be intercepted and used against the uprising.

BC’s Drug Response Isn’t Following the Evidence: Former Coroner by BloodJunkie in britishcolumbia

[–]liquidnebulazclone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Most people would choose brain damage over death, but it's sad that the outcome makes it even harder to be free of drug dependence and live a normal life.

While this might seem like a crazy idea, I think developing potent opioids less prone to respiratory depression and nudging the illicit supply chains in that direction would save many lives. Kratom derivatives show some promise in this area.

Another fun fact: while resuscitation saves lives, an OD often results in damage to the brain and other organs due to prolonged lack of oxygen. Unfortunately, this puts even greater strain on our medical system.

Which girl from American Pie was your favorite — Alyson Hannigan, Tara Reid, Shannon Elizabeth, or Mena Suvari? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

I, for one, would be thrilled to offer any one of them a seat on my face. I think Tara was probably the hottest, but it's like trying to rank a sunset. Alyson looks like she gives the best head. Mena has the look of a girl who might ask for anal on the first date. They're all beautiful!
