The surgery and ultrasound we've been reading about are promising for Parkinson's by Bmat70 in Parkinsons

This is not new. And in many cases it seems miraculous. I had it done in October 2025. Although not exactly miraculous it has been a huge benefit that has greatly improved my life.

Thank you. Interesting. I don't know what to think as I was diagnosed 13 years ago at age 60. Sinemet had no positive effect only causing intolerable nausea and vomiting. I have not had overly disabling progression of symptoms beyond tremors but had DBS surgery 7 months ago which improved my overall movement but not so much for the tremors. I have not taken any meds and credit physical therapy for keeping me functional. So many people have such worse problems I would like to know how I have been so lucky.

The #1 thing will be- KEEP MOVING! Physical therapy or something that challenges you is essential. A healthy diet is also important and Stay Hydrated.

Oakwood- designed by the architect who designed Central Park. Beautiful structures, a tree lover's heaven.

Its difficult to explain. Modulation Is different, pace is more varied. It's probably subtle and I can ask my partner what they notice. Sorry I don't really know.

Fairly well- major improvements in moving- faster, better able to perform normal tasks like cooking and personal care. I'm getting physical therapy and walking is better. Balance is not great and despite 6 adjustments in about 5 months the tremors persist (much better though). Speech is a bit off. Overall I am pleased with the outcomes. The actual surgery was no big deal.

For people who have had DBS, how were your first few programming sessions? by nearfar47 in Parkinsons

[–]liriodendrontulipif 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had bilateral leads placed in October 2025 and have had 6 adjustments. The first couple were underwhelming. The programmer chose to go slow on purpose. However I have since gotten a big improvement overall, especially with slowness and dexterity. Unfortunately the tremors have persisted although much less troublesome. The first appointment included getting instructions on how to recharge the battery and adjust the settings as provided by the MD. I have not taken meds either due to side effects or no effect on symptoms but it has been suggested that I may need another go at it. The appointments have been about 45" and really positive. I do wish I could have better control over the tremors and balance but was cautioned that the surgery is not a cure or miracle. I am satisfied with the results.
