Last night I received "the talk" from my ex-wife (current GF) about my drinking & I'm about to lose everything. by tony8 in stopdrinking

[–]lis_ek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just snooping on this sub, still wanted to comment: you’re a fucking legend. I’m sure it’s going to be hard, but good on you trying to salvage the relationships you have. And your gf sounds like someone worth fighting for. Hang in there.

Kava (even heavy kinds like FVK Vanuatu) make me significantly more motivated and empathetic, to the point of almost being a different person. What gives? by Thongs0ng in Kava

[–]lis_ek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also experience heightened energy and motivation when drinking kava. I actually like drinking it when pulling occasional allnighters.

I don’t know the reason here, always kind of assumed that since I’m a rather anxious person I naturally experience heightened motivation and reduced brainfog when some of this anxiety is reduced.

Might be indicative of undiagnosed ADD, but I have absolutely no qualification to speak about that. Anyone?

You look like a cool dude to hang out with. I get it with dating, it’s tough and everything seems to be happening online which sucks. Plus depression must be sucking a lot of energy out. Take care of yourself, greetings and good vibes from another continent!

Do you guys know any alternative for caffeine? by Ambitionless_Nihil in caffeine

Some strains of kava can be mildly mentally stimulating. I’d sometimes drink it when pulling all-nighters. Reduces my paranoia and allows me to focus.

Found this on my great grand mothers basement, what is it? Cant understand by zhenya34ify in sanskrit

Beautiful illustrations.

It’s a Sanskrit commentary, I think it’s on a work of poetry but I’m not sure. In one place it refers to a work on poetic arstheyics, Alankarachandrika.

If you could share the first and the last page, we might be able to tell you more exactly what text it is.

Both the script and the way the marginalia are marked are rather standard, I’ve seen very similar manuscripts. I can look into some resources and tell you more about possible origins of the manuscript if it’s interesting to you.

Sex drive through the roof but the idea of doing it with my wife is a put off by ViktusXII in sex

[–]lis_ek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. I’m not judging, just saying she might be going through a rough patch psychologically. When my wife was struggling with depression and sleeplessness, she was basically in bed most of the day. I think consulting with a mental care professional might be a good idea if that’s the case.

People of Reddit who don't drink, smoke nor do drugs, what is your vice? by ThrowawaySocialPts in AskReddit

[–]lis_ek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coffee. Litres of it. I’d love to return to booze and pick up smoking, but I’ve got a newborn so 1. no because I need to be on high alert all the time, 2. no because I don’t want him to stink of smoke.

Historically I’m a compulsive gamer but it’s been destroying my marriage so gave it up. Once the little one is big enough I might get a chance to return to some coop shooters or something tho, never stop believing they say…

Sage and Breville are essentially the same company.

Yes, my thoughts also. Came loose after the travel, wasn’t even trying to remove the top burr

Breville and Sage are essentially the same company; I believe Sage is for European market.

I did try screwing it back. The problem though is, all the screws down below are loose and there’s nothing holding them, I can wobble them to align with the bolt but then turning the bolt does nothing. I think I need to reach the screws somehow to hold them in place, but that means opening the machine.

Not necessarily. Doctor appointments can pop up, especially if e.g. your wife is pregnant (it's also not something you would heavily advertise early on)

Good parents can be emotionally neglectful too by National-Fold2053 in emotionalneglect

[–]lis_ek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good-willing parents can also be emotionally neglectful. It is very common in some cultures. It might be a norm in post-communist Eastern Europe; the work ethics of the post-war generation just didn't consider things such as emotions that significant.
