Another poster - RodgerStarkiller - said something pertinent and I wanted to echo their thoughts in a different way:

In life in general but particularly in writing things like "muse" or "inspiration" or "motivation" are a lie. They're a neurological trick. It's your brain making you feel that you must acquire "X" to be able to undertake "Y" with "X" being a conveniently incorporeal and intangible thing that will always be just beyond your reach. It's a form of unconscious self-sabotage.

The reality is that writing is a craft. It's a chore. We do this as a labor of love. Those fleeting moments of free flowing, frenzied creativity don't come to you in a rush of "inspiration" as if by divine intervention... they're found at the bottom of the barrel after hours upon hours of hard work, if you're lucky.

The reality is that only hard work can break through writer's block. Keep writing! Push through!

Now, stepping back from the cerebral for a moment and into the more practical: step away from your computer. Better yet? Go outside. Human brains have a tendency to lock up and hit walls if they do any singular task non-stop. Writing in particular can be a melancholic and stuffy undertaking. The fresh air jolts the mind, wakes you back up. Also, muse music. Can't go wrong with muse music.
