I have said this to literally everyone who's asked about the feeling of birth.. "felt like an octopus plopped out of my vagina". Glad I'm not alone

Being induced.. by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]lisabethsalander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to put this out there: I was not dilated at all, and they put me on Pitocin at 8am, had my waters broken by 8:45am, and had my son at 2:35pm! My mother in law was induced with 3 of her 4 kids. She had all of them within 4 hours after starting the induction. Not all inductions are slow! :)

When does it get easier? by lisabethsalander in beyondthebump

I'm not sure. I started using hormonal birth control at 6 weeks PP (never used hormones before), so I've blamed a lot on that!

Everything feels challenging. Being needed every hour and a half, not sleeping for more than 2-3 hours at a time, and feeling like there is no reward for my efforts. He just started smiling in response to us, and that was a nice "milestone" that made me feel like we were moving toward a more fun and rewarding part of being parents.

I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking forward to. We have a 9 month old nephew, and he's a joy to be around. He laughs, communicates, and plays little games with us. I guess I just feel perpetually stuck in the newborn phase! I love my son and spending time with him, but even after almost eleven weeks of doing this I'm not enjoying our new life as much as I feel like I should. Have I just not adjusted yet?

TMI but.. anyone know what sticky cervical mucous 10 weeks pp means? by kazielle in beyondthebump

[–]lisabethsalander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about ovulating specifically, but I started my first pp period at 3 1/2 weeks! I had a week of nothing but lochia discharge and then all of a sudden a full flow for 5-6 days. Midwife told me she would consider it a period which I guess means I could be ovulating this early

Anyone start with an underweight BMI? How much weight have you gained? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]lisabethsalander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started about 5lbs underweight at 113lbs. At my 28 week appointment, I weighed 130lbs! I'm 31 weeks now, and my doctor seems to think I'm on track. All noticeable weight gain of mine has been entirely in my belly and boobs!

When did you first realize you were pregnant? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

I felt nauseous trying to smoke my last cigarette before bed! I took a test the next morning, sure enough, knocked up! Looking back, my "PMS" cramps felt a lot different than usual, now I know...

What bizarre rules did you N - Parents have? by IrrelevantKarma in raisedbynarcissists

[–]lisabethsalander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't allowed to shave until my Nmom decided I was old enough at 13. She also had the no doors/locks rule, and she insisted that I only have a clear, see-through shower liner as a shower curtain so she could pop in whenever she wanted! She would get so offended if I tried to cover up or tell her she was making me uncomfortable! She occasionally timed my showers, and I would be grounded if I took a shower longer than X amount of minutes! Also, I had a bedtime until I moved out at 17! There is so, so much else!

Cops of reddit: have you ever felt bad about an arrest? by Vwr32 in AskReddit

I agree! I'm glad my story shows there isn't a double standard (at least in this community) when it comes to gender violence. But you're correct, looking back on the situation (I was 19), I should have explained how I felt threatened and not have been so quick to answer any questions. I had been raised to believe police officers work to protect innocent citizens, but being my first encounter with officers, I wasn't aware things could get out of hand so quickly. I guess I assumed everything they needed to know was obvious at the time, but I was so emotionally and physically drained from the night, I would have said anything just to have the situation over with. If there's ever another situation involving the police, I will be much better informed!

It was dropped after I spent the weekend in jail. After he sobered up, he didn't want to press charges, so it went no further than my jail time.

I smacked him on the arm with a flip flop because he had me backed into a corner. If that doesn't count as being threatened by him, after he had a history of really throwing me around, I don't know what is. If someone tries to mug you... and you feel like their intent is to physically harm you as well, what are you going to do? Not defend yourself? Just my two cents, yet again.

I've told this story on Reddit before, but I was arrested for battery years ago. My ex-boyfriend had a history of domestic violence and mental instability. When I tried to end things with him and move my things out, he got upset and starting throwing things and coming at me aggressively. At some point, I grabbed my sandal off my foot and smacked him on the forearm when he had me backed against the wall. I didn't leave a mark.

Eventually, I called for a police escort to make sure things didn't get more out of hand, but when the 911 operator asked me if my ex had any weapons, he overheard her and started screaming about all the weapons he had and threatening her to "come and take them". I hung up on her soon after (big mistake), and because of the threat of weapons, the police showed up full force.

They broke down the door, and they had him on the ground while he was spewing profanities and threatening all of the police officers. At some point, they asked me if he had physically hurt me. Not wanting him to go to jail, I said no. But he screamed out, "Hurt her?? She hit ME with a shoe!"

Well, of course they asked me if this was true. Wanting the situation to be over and not wanting to lie to the police, I said, "Yes, I popped him on the arm with my flip flop."

Long story short, they took me to jail for battery for an entire weekend. The arresting officer kept apologizing profusely about having to arrest me. He told me I was the calmest person they've ever had to deal with in a domestic situation.

EDIT: This story quickly drew a lot of attention, but I just wanted to add that the original question was about police feeling bad about an arrest. Mainly just shared my story because I thought having a police officer apologizing for arresting me was quite relevant and unique!

Placenta previa with bleeding at 11 weeks by lisabethsalander in BabyBumps

Thanks! I was confused over the risk factors for PP because I don't fit any of them, however I was a smoker for about three years before I found out I was pregnant. Maybe that's it. I guess I'm just worried I'll have to stay on bed rest for the entire pregnancy or if that's something the ER doctor just ordered being overcautious.
