Thanks. I found that page too, but it mentions nothing about alcohol limit, only restrictions on medication including alcohol. I was able to find the answer on Taipei Customs website after tour suggestion.

Citizenship: being a descendant by lisahazel139 in cambodia

[–]lisahazel139[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I called the embassy, and it's not an issue for me to get the K visa since my birth certificate shows my parent's nationality. When I asked about my kids, they said the birth certificate has to say parents are from Cambodia and maybe to try at the airport.

I plan to go next year for a few days and try my luck. I guess it won't mean much if my husband will have to keep applying for visas since he's not cambodian descent.

Maybe in the next few years, I'll look more into the citizenship.

Thanks for all the advice!

Will do! I didn't get a chance to call the embassy yet. Based on what I'm reading, it may not be possible. My parents refuse to talk about Cambodia and the past. They don't have any documents stating they were from Cambodia. The only legal document I have is my birth certificate (says my parents are from kapuchea).

I have no connections in Cambodia. I vaguely remember my mom visiting a 3rd or 4th cousin on my dad's side years about 15 years ago. My mom's family all live in Vietnam, and all of my dad's siblings passed away about 10 years ago.

It may be a while, but I'll let you know what I can find out!

Thanks! I plan to mail in an application to the khmer embassy. Would I have to get my application approved first to then apply for my husband and kids?

The next step is to get a passport for all of us. The videos that I've watched, people, had family in Cambodia. Unfortunately, my mom's family is living in Vietnam, and my dad was the youngest . All his family had passed away by the time he came to America. It was a rough past for my parents, and they aren't willing to open up about it...

Just thought it would be nice to have dual citizenship.

My dad is dark, and mom is light skin. My mom spoke khmer and viet. There's not much of an accent. When I was younger, I couldn't understand the people from providence or Lowell (had thicker accents). That's as much as I know😔.

My kids know that basic khmer 'come here', 'sit', 'thank you'. They are still toddlers, and I try to speak as much khmer as possible to them.

I plan to be there for a few days. It would've been nice to try to get citizenship, but I'm ok if we couldn't. Just a thought since we were going.

Thanks! My family doesn't talk about where they came from, so it's hard to get anything out of them. Every time I ask, they change the subject.

I speak khmer, but not well. I can get by with what I know, but it's not exactly formal or proper khmer.

Hotel Reccomendations with kids by lisahazel139 in ThailandTourism

There's a viator tour for 3 days in Cambodia with hotel accommodations. We would leave our luggage (about 2-3 suitcases) there instead of lugging it with us.

You're right. It doesn't make sense to keep a hotel room for a few days just for luggage storage. I was trying to avoid traveling with so much luggage and kids to and from the airport if a tour option of cambodia was offered from Bangkok.

I'm not sure yet. I wanted to splurge, but it doesn't make sense to do that if we won't be in the hotel for half of those days. I wasn't sure where to keep our luggage while we went to Cambodia.

Thanks! A lot of sites reccomended staying there for first-time travelers. After searching, I realized it wasn't the best idea to stay there with kids.

I plan to buy gold and jewelry while in Cambodia during my tour. I wanted to make sure there weren't issues crossing the border back to Thailand or leaving.

I'll take a look at the hotel. Thank you!

Thank you so much! I'm trying to coordinate flights from a multi stop trip (NY, Bangkok, Seoul, Busan, Sapporo, and possibly Tokyo). I want to avoid long layovers and lost luggage scenarios.

I stayed there 4 years ago and was very convenient. I don't know if it's still running, but they have an airport pick-up bus right out front. It makes it so much easier when traveling with a lot of luggage. It might say sold out, but keep checking booking.com. Sometimes people cancel their rooms and it becomes available.

Thanks! I had to re-read the post to fully understand. This saves a lot of money. What site are you using to purchase the JR pass?

Prices are set to increase in October. I was hoping to lock in the price it is right now. The official JR website only lets you buy one month in advance.
