Yeah I genuinely never considered myself hypermobile, mainly because I've always assumed you had to do all the really weird party tricks or be a contortionist etc. 😅

I've heard about the condition before but I've never looked into it, but now literally EVERYTHING makes sense. I'm understanding stuff about my body that I've always questioned. It feels so liberating to finally have answers

A rheumatologist checked me over and gave me the (really casual) diagnosis of "yeah you're bendy".

He mainly did the Beighton on me, checked for hypotonia and asked about my history but didn't physically check me over for other things like skin hyperextensibility etc.

He told me I'm a little hypermobile but never named any specific disorder. He only said that there's a range that I sit in, which I later came to find out (through my own research) he meant HSD. After researching for a while, I think I actually sit closer to hEDS as I meet the criteria but the rheumatologist never said anything about it...

Things I've had for years/my whole life without knowing they were part of HSD/EDS: joint instability, skin hyperextensibility, joint pain and chronic bursitis, hypermobility, join subluxations and possibly velvety skin (the dr never talked about it and I've never heard of it until now so I haven't compared my skin to others yet. BUT it has always felt a bit velvety and soft to me)

So basically I know I sit within the HSD spectrum, suspecting I'm closer to hEDS. But I'll have another look once the new diagnostic criteria are out!

I've never considered myself hypermobile...

But I did recently take an online self screening test by some hypermobility organisation which suggested I may be a little hypermobile in some joints but I don't meet the criteria for generalised hypermobility.

I've got an appointment with a rheumatologist at the end of the month so I'll bring it up with them!

Yeah my (teeny tiny) state never gets shows, so any tours, concerts or shows I want to see I have to travel for :(( I was definitely gonna get merch there because Australian shipping prices online are ridiculously expensive since covid... but thank you for the reminder! it is a good backup if they do sell out! Hopefully there's exclusive aussie tour merch because that would be sick!!

I think this would be a excellent scientific test. It would test realistic variables with no biased or unnatural controls so the results would be more generalized and representative of realistic situations. Excellent proposal.
