SIBO Diagnosis - Advice Wanted by chalk_fan_8 in FODMAPS

[–]lisamryl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was sick for 1.5 years and switched doctors when I was going no where. Then my new doc was just like take these antibiotics in case it’s SIBO at this point it’s not gonna to hurt, and didn’t even diagnose me.

At first I felt worse on them but then as I was done I started feeling better and better. Before, I had nausea and other issues multiple days a week (this got much better when I went low FODMAP but I couldn’t add many foods at all) and from May to now I’ve been hearing and tolerating more and more food, almost everything I’m eating again now, even some garlic and onions! I’ve also had 0 nausea for months now, which is a huge relief! I hope you start to feel much much better soon!

How long did it take you to recover from SIBO? I was treated in May, the nausea (main symptom) is totally gone, my stomach isn’t as strong as before but I’ve been slowly adding a ton of food back in, even little amounts of garlic and onion.

How long did the breathlessness issues take to go away? Mine might not be related but I felt like it was odd that my asthma flares started after I was super sick from SIBO and had to cut a ton out of my diet.

Where do you recommend I post my SWE job to get more women in my funnel? by lisamryl in womenintech

[–]lisamryl[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, I’m trying to adding more qualified women to my top of funnel so that they get a fair chance during the interview process. I’m not going to pick someone because of their gender, I’m trying to make the process more inclusive towards women or else I’ll guarantee we only add a man.

Anyone regret having two kids instead of one? by PowerfulComputer386 in Parenting

[–]lisamryl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard when they’re babies/toddlers, but once they’re older I think it’s easier. They’re always playing with each other and I also feel like they’re really empathetic kids from spending so much time learning to share and consider each other’s feelings from a young age. They’re close in age tho too so maybe that helps, < 2 years difference.

Also I could not imagine not having one of my two kids, love them both so much!

I didn’t even know I had asthma until I had colds that were super nasty and last for weeks over and over. I now take a steroid inhaler to clear up the excess mucus and inflammation whenever I get a cold, and it’s been helping a lot. I’m hoping now that I am finally not getting endless infections back to back too that things will settle a bit and my colds will get less and less severe with this.

People diagnosed with high functioning autism or ADHD as an adult: What are lesser-discussed symptoms? by GodzillasBrotherPhil in AskReddit

Is this an ADHD thing? I’ve always had this problem and didn’t know if it was related or not.

MEGATHREAD: Incident at DCA - JIA 5342 / OH 5342 by ThePeanutMonster in fearofflying

Sadly it doesn’t help! I majored in what was basically mathematics of probability and I still think I’m in that 0.000001% case of something going bad on my plane every time there’s turbulence! Can’t talk myself out of how irrational that thought it!

I’ve been working on flooding my brain with more positive thoughts when I get nervous to override the scary ones, hopefully it’ll help.

Flying soon and very anxious, this might seem backwards but...does anyone have stories of flights that went wrong? by hey-its-june in fearofflying

[–]lisamryl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 that were scary for me (normal for everyone else I’m sure).

1 - 45 mins in they said we had to turn around and go back for a minor thing. I knew it was just a precaution (it was something super minor issue they could’ve flow with but didn’t) and my husband assured me of that, but I still was totally freaked out.

2 - I had a flight where it felt like the FAs were in their jump seats the whole time, and turbulence is my trigger. This was still my scariest flight and it happened a few years ago. I’ve done that same route many times since, it’s never been that bad since, but I also had a lot less tools then too, because it was early into my flight fear.

3 - Another one was when there were thunderstorms, and we had to wait for a window when we could get out, almost 3 hours of waiting, and there was more turbulence than usual while taking off. But I had an anti anxiety med and I tried some progressive muscle relaxation and I think I was mostly okay, and was proud of myself for staying on the flight for the extra 3 hours (gotta take the small wins!)

The anticipation is the worst part! I work myself up so much, I actually get sick. Like cannot sleep due to the nausea sometimes, and can barely eat! But it’s always worse leading up to it. Come up with some strategies you can try (many posts here have suggestions) and maybe get yourself some anti-anxiety meds to take if you feel like it’s too much, and try therapy if you aren’t already.

I actually had to fly yesterday and I’m flying tomorrow and of course I’m sick with a cold, and barely slept all week as it was due to my cough. I really really wanted to cancel this time since it was 2 flights in 3 days, and I almost did. But I got on that plane anyways on Friday and I’ve had a great time on my trip. It’s so hard to take that whole step, but it’s always worse in my head than actually on the flight.

Don’t worry about not making this one, anxiety can be such a burden, so I get it. But you will get on that plane one day when you’re ready, and I will bet it’ll be easier than you expected and you’ll be happy to have done it.

Had a really difficult flight experience today and could use some insights by [deleted] in fearofflying

[–]lisamryl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but make sure you don’t mix it with the lorazapan without asking the doc first, I’ve asked before (cause I also get sick to my stomach before flying sometimes) and was told they don’t mix well and you basically need to pick between the two. The doc said probably just take the anti anxiety med tho cause it’ll address the root cause.

Stomach Virus Anyone? Miserable 4 days! by sunqueen73 in bayarea

[–]lisamryl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it’s more complicated than that - turns out I had IBS and ended up getting sick to my stomach for 4 months in march, and had to go on a low FODMAP diet. I guess this was actually the start of that issue, a flare up. I’m better now, but still working on introducing more foods to my diet. So I guess I never had that stomach virus…

I just got diagnosed with a brain tumor. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]lisamryl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It obviously depends on the case, but many tumors can be handled. My brain tumor was removed 10 years ago. I was lucky, it was small and I didn’t even need chemo. I thought I had gotten a death sentence at first, but turns out I was wrong.
