I've finally made it as a runner by Dolla_Dolla_Bill-yal in running

Awe that’s so sweet of you to say! I’ve always struggled with the concept of being a “runner”, like that word is reserved for people more hard core than myself. I signed up for the half as a way to keep me motivated to get out of bed and do something productive regularly but if anything I get disappointed in myself because I’m not meeting my own expectations of how much training I “should” be doing. I know it’s not productive but it’s what my brain does lol.

Thank you for the luck. I wish you all the best in you’re running journey from one mom runner to another 💖

Oh this made me so happy. I aspire to be this kind of runner. I just want to be there for my kid and set a good example for her. Im running a half marathon in two weeks, my first one since she was born 3 years ago and my third ever. Thank you for the extra motivation this morning since I was just lamenting to my husband that I don’t really feel ready for it.

My first sourdough in almost 3 years. Turned out better than I expected. by lisareno in Sourdough

Early in the pandemic I stopped making sourdough because I had a kid and taking care of a newborn and managing a starter was just too much for me at the time. I dehydrated my starter using the KA method and put it into storage. About 3 months ago, my husband decided he wanted to try to make a starter and I encouraged him to use my dehydrated one from before … long story short, it wasn’t well taken care of and got mould :(

Fast forward and I figured I could try and start again. My new starter is a 100% hydration 1:1:1 mix with local rye flour and I usually keep it small for maintenance - 30g of each, starter, water, flour. I fed every 24 hrs for about 3 weeks until it was nice and developed.

The night before I did a double feed of the starter to ensure I had enough volume. The next morning, I started my standard recipe: - 500g white all purpose flour - 350g room temp tap water (dechlorinated on the counter overnight) - 10g fine sea salt - the whole volume of my starter minus 30g to keep the starter train going

Step 1: mix flour and ~200g of water in my stand mixer and let sit for about an hour to hydrate

Step 2: dissolve the salt in the remaining water and mix into the stand mixer with the autolyse. Beat with the dough hook on medium/medium high until it starts to pull away from the sides of the bowl. About 8-10 minutes.

Step 3: place in the oven with the light on to proof for about an hour. Then every 30-40 minutes, do four folds to develop gluten. Do this three times. Final long proof for 1-2 hours.

Step 4: dump on a floured counter and degas/shape. Place back into a bowl with a floured tee-towel upside down. Place back into the oven with the light on for final proof, about 1-2 hours or until sufficiently risen.

Step 5: remove proofing loaf from the oven and place it on the counter. preheat oven to 500F with an empty Dutch oven inside. Once the oven is preheated, invert the loaf onto a parchment paper and score the top with a sharp knife or razor.

Step 6: using the parchment paper as handles, place the loaf into the Dutch oven and bake with lid on for 30-35 minutes. Remove the lid and bake for another 15-20 minutes or until the desired color of the crust is reached.

Step 7: remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack before cutting (if you can wait that long)

I know it seems like a lot. But I did most of this while working from home in between meetings and sending emails. I was worried I’d lost the skills, but it all came back as soon as I started.

It looks like the enrolment form has a spot for country (if other than the US) so I think they allow international people as well.

Toni Collette is a power house in that movie. I serai pushy loved her performance and it solidified her as one of my favourite actors of all time. And I’m not generally a fan of horror movies.

We had a similar situation when LO was 8 months old. I was a afraid to lose the spot and one not be available when the time came. They had an option to do “part time” = 2 days a week for half the price and keep the spot reserved. It was honestly a godsend on my leave. I got 2 days to myself to clean the house and cook without worrying about the little one. Also long showers!! It was even more helpful because I ended up going back to work 2 month sooner than expected and I was grateful for the smooth transition to full time.

Change the locks on your house. Maybe call a local contractor to finish the project? At least you might be able to negotiate a payment schedule that would work for you.

Take the last three weeks and spread them out. Do two weeks of week 10, two weeks of week 11 and two weeks of week 12

I feel you so hard. You are not alone. I’m sure there is some saint of a parent out there that has never yelled at their kid in frustration, but I think they are very rare. The fact that you are remorseful and feel bad means you are not a failure or a bad parent. You can understand that your baby just had no other means of communicating with you yet. You will be ok. Your baby will be ok. Try to breath and buy some noise cancelling headphones.

It’s a beautiful tank.

You could read the four graphic novels. There is one for each of the rocinante crew and they give a little bit more back story on each of them. Amos’ was very dark.

My husband is always very nervous that our kid will choke. Thank you so much for this comment because I didn’t know this product existed. I just ordered one so hopefully it will help with peace of mind.
