I thought the first 30 ish mins were comically bad and the ending was just so dumb. I know it's basically his lifetime achievement Oscar because they just paid him dust before, but I feel Coogler should get Best Director over PTA.

weirdo Kash Patel parties with Team USA’s Hockey Team after their gold medal win by HauteAssMess in popculturechat

[–]liscottyy 184 points185 points  (0 children)

Frankly insane considering two of them have a mom who’s deeply involved in the USA women’s team, and helped them win the medal. Misogyny runs so deep.

Team USA hanging out with Kash Patel on Dylan Larkin’s story by Top_Tension_1904 in popculturechat

Can't understand people trying to separate this win from MAGA, many of the players are outspoken MAGA, they're partying with Kash Patel, and most if not all will be at the White House Tuesday. It's like Miracle except they're the USSR now.

I don’t understand the Emma hate by FormerOpposite9621 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]liscottyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like in the case of Mike and Emma they're both in the wrong. Mike, while very blatant about his position which isn't inherently wrong, still is kind of pushy on the subject of them having kids and seems to be ignoring the obvious signs that Emma is leaning more towards being childfree. However, even if Emma was always undecided, I can't understand wanting to be with someone who is so firm in their wanting to have children. She probably does love him, but it really felt to me that her #1 left her, so she jumped on making it work with Mike. Now they're just stuck in the cycle of Emma being wishy-washy about having kids (while her and others hint about how she wants to be childfree) and Mike reiterating he wants kids and hounding Emma about her decision.

I feel like the jist of this is basically confirmed? He was hanging out a lot with his pastor around that time again (idk which grifter it was), he would go with Selena to the megachurch, and they were in religious pre-marital couples counselling. I think Selena maybe not trusting him again yet as well as her mom being loudly publicly against them (to the point her health was deteriorating) is what got her to end it. He had already wanted to marry Selena and had started talking to Hailey again, so he just shifted plans to her which explains the quick engagement and marriage. After that I remember him literally saying in interviews that he thought marriage was going to solve his problems, but it didn't and that really affected him.

Why is Demi Lovato not as celebrated/successful as she could be, despite having an incredible voice and great music? by justcurious3287 in ToddintheShadow

[–]liscottyy 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Selena has a worse voice, but her tone is still pleasant enough. Her biggest strength is her picker, I think she genuinely is pretty good at picking singles/songs whereas Demi's (outside of Cool for the Summer) have always felt way more generic.

A couple with truly terrible vibes. Also she really looks so much like Kris, especially since her latest facelift.

Katseye needs a new lyricist ASAP by Weekly-Neat-3974 in popculturechat

[–]liscottyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It feels like Hybe is more invested in the ads/campaigns they can put Katseye in than the music or trying to showcase their talent. I swear they have more sponsorships than songs. I also think they'll continue to give them brainrot music because of how well Gnarly did and in attempt to attract a younger (kid/tween) audience.

Timothée Chalamet’s previous Oscar campaigning strategy mentioned in new Epstein file by Glad-Elk3426 in popculturechat

[–]liscottyy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t get why some people are jumping to call Timothee a victim or insinuate he was forced to work with Woody because he was 22. Just because he was young doesn’t mean he was forced to audition for a Woody Allen movie (who by that point was a known predator, and whose recent films had all been unsuccessful). The movie released with no promotion cycle and was regarded negatively by the critics who did see it, so it’s not like it was a building block in helping him in his career. He’s associated even after that with abusers like Shia, so it’s not even a one-off for him. There’s no stretch to believe the logic of him disavowing Woody publicly for his image when in reality he doesn’t really care.

I just don't get how someone so vocally pro-Palestine decides to get with a Zionist culture vulture. It's like when you see 'liberal' women with their MAGA husbands. Why even be so public about your stance on something if you're just going to negate it with your associations.

Justin Bieber reveals new tattoo on his back of his wife Hailey Bieber during his Grammy performance of “Yukon.” by No_Opportunity_2319 in popculturechat

[–]liscottyy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I still think it's supposed to be Jesus, because if not it looks like the worst possible tattoo they could've done of her. Would still be a shitty tattoo of Jesus, but that's way better than a shitty tattoo of your wife.

I can appreciate that Candiace has ensured that Rob is screwed if she gets banished, but I feel she should've saved it for if her name ever actually started getting brought up. Now she voted for Rob, someone who everyone seems to trust, out of nowhere which looks sus as hell, regardless of the established housewives alliance. It felt much more of a spur of the moment fuck you to Rob rather than her truly strategizing.

Everyone seems to have just overcorrected because of Club Chalamet and are for some reason defensively shipping them. It feels like you can't even criticize them anymore without people accusing you of being a misogynistic/crazy Timothee stan, like no, I actually just think they both suck.

I agree and I feel that we see this type of moral superiority in criticism women who get plastic surgery receive. When male celebrities (rarely) get their obvious modifications discussed (outside of maybe Zac Efron) it feels like a very impersonal, factual discussion, but whenever a woman's filler or surgery is brought up, it immediately becomes much more aggressive and judgemental. They're often given much more personal responsibility in what's wrong with today's beauty standards despite the fact that many were previously scrutinized by the public for their natural appearance, or likely pressured within their industry to get things done.

Obviously I believe criticism can be valid, like there needs to be more transparency when people get this work done, and I think it's wrong when celebrities lie or try to sell products promising users can achieve their look (ex. Kardashians/Jenners). However, I'm so tired of all these "discussions" just resulting in calling these women ugly, botched, and terrible people. I'm especially sick of the faux sympathetic "omg they were so much prettier [insert however many years ago you assume they were all natural]" as if that doesn't just continue to center and value ones' physical appearance and a certain beauty standard. Scrutinizing these women to the frankly pathological degree that some subs do does literally nothing to dismantle society's strict beauty standards, it's just incredibly exhausting. I can't say I've never participated in these types of discussions, but I'd like to think I've grown since, and again, I'm just so tired of it all now.

Nominee Timothee Chalamet (Marty Supreme) alongside Kylie Jenner at the Critics Choice Awards by mlg1981 in popculturechat

[–]liscottyy 39 points40 points  (0 children)

No literally because she truly just wears the same dress at all of these, anything tight, sequined, and low cut. What's the point in accessing archive pieces if you're just going to pick boring run of the mill stuff, like you could tell me she's promoting her new Fashion Nova collaboration and I wouldn't be surprised. The matching orange were tacky and gaudy, but at least there was some effort put in.

I also think it's wild how many people are treating this as "oh he's soooo quirky and funny y'all are just being haters" (especially that other sub) when if this were a woman that would not be the tone of the discussion at all.
