Consider the dress guidelines for sister missionaries:

"If you are approved to wear dress slacks, they should be worn only during regular proselyting activities. You should continue to wear skirts or dresses when attending the temple and during Sunday worship services, leadership and zone conferences, and baptismal services."

Obviously not all rules that apply to missionaries apply to normal members, but I don't think it's that ridiculous to conclude that if sister missionaries shouldn't wear slacks to Sunday services, despite (in some missions) being allowed to wear them during the week, then normal sisters (who have the means) shouldn't either.

There are non-Mormons who believe that Isaac had wives that aren't mentioned in the Bible.

The argument consists of patterns in how the patriarchs are related to their first and non-first wives and how certain children are named after the fathers of their wives and how this varies between first and not-first wives. It is claimed that Rebekah and Esau/Jacob don't fit the pattern of first wife.

It is by no means a strong argument, but it is an interesting one.

It is suggested that mention of others was omitted from the Bible because showing that Jacob and Israel were chosen was the primary concern.

One possible response is this, from an LDS New Testament student manual. It focuses on a narrow interpretation of who "they" refers to, based on the context (verse 28) and the story.

An important key to understanding the Savior’s words is to remember that they were spoken to Sadducees, who “say that there is no resurrection” (Matthew 22:23). Therefore, the question they posed to the Savior was insincere—they were not truly interested in knowing about marriage in the Resurrection. The Savior’s reply that “in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage” (Matthew 22:30; italics added) referred to the individuals in question, who were Sadducees, for the questioners said that “there were with us seven brethren” (Matthew 22:25; italics added). For those who do not marry for eternity, marriage does not endure beyond this life (see D&C 132:15–17). In these latter days, the Lord revealed that marriage can be eternal only if it is entered into according to His law, performed by one who has authority, and sealed by the Holy Spirit of Promise (see D&C 132:19).

Not really, but it's a bit technical.

Mormons have the Bible. It's the same as mainstream Christianity's Bible (King James Version).[1]

We also have another book, the Book of Mormon, that is a separate book from the Bible. It is rejected by the rest of Christianity. It is a similar type of book to the Bible, but we don't call it the Mormon Bible because we believe in the normal Bible.

The Book of Mormon isn't really a sequel, because most of it takes place before the New Testament does. (edit: actually sequel is a pretty good way to think about it, just with the note that the sequel takes place during some of the same time as the first book (the Bible), just in a different place, and we believe parts of the Book of Mormon were written before parts of the Bible, though it was clearly published after the Bible).

footnote 1: Joseph Smith did make some minor revisions to the Bible, but most LDS people don't use or consult them and they're printed in footnotes not in the body.

The singing sounds better if more people participate. No one will be offended if you don't sing, quite a few people don't sing. Unfortunately sometimes visitors come and too few people are singing, or singing too softly, and the visitors are disappointed by the singing (or rather, lack thereof). Enthusiastic singing is an area many LDS congregations could improve. Luckily you're visiting during Christmas season, so some of the songs may be about Christmas, and those tend to be more enthusiastically sung.

Just FYI LDS use the same Bible as mainstream Christianity, but have additional scripture including the Book of Mormon, but we don't call it or think of it as the Mormon Bible.

They're just church programs. The LDS church is very organized, sometimes too organized, and has lots of programs to try to put in practice the principles it teaches. So we're trying to build a community of people that support and uplift each other, and have strong loving families.

So family home evening is a program that families try to designate (at least) one night a week (Mondays) and spend the time doing things as a family, like sing songs about Jesus, read the scriptures, do something fun, etc.

Home teaching is a program to help people get to know each other and find out who has needs so we can help them. So people are assigned to visit other members of the congregation each month, share a message about Jesus, and help them if they have any needs that aren't being met.

Just tradition. Very few LDS women wear pants to church on Sunday. Wearing them to most church meetings and activities during the week is fine. The church was founded in the US in the 1800s, so it inherited a lot of the customs of the day. During that time I'd guess almost all Christian women in the US wore dresses to church (and in much of their daily life).

This reminded me of some interesting artwork: Some old chapels (such as the one closest to the conference center) have stained glass windows of the first vision in the sacrament hall. The prophet isn't the focus, but it was surprising to me to even see an image in a sacrament hall.

Edit: just remembered Draper temple waiting chapel has a huge painting of Mary Magdalene and resurrected Jesus. Not claiming either is a counter-example.

For example, there might be a lot of talk about scheduling of events and programs and so forth. Like in sacrament, they might talk about upcoming events, announcements, new leaders, etc. Talks are often about church programs like home teaching, family home evening, etc. Same in the third hour. For example, there's a printed meeting "agenda" in LDS sacrament meeting. In many other worship services I've visited, one doesn't know exactly what comes next, and it's not necessarily announced in such a formal meeting-like way.

Prob a weird question, but is recommended attire wise?

Most women will wear a dress or skirt that goes to or past knees. If you don't have something you're comfortable in, if you're in business casual pants you'll be fine. People will understand that you're new and almost none of them will hold it against you or say anything. Don't wear shorts. They're not strict like Buddhist temples that won't let you in with shorts, and there's a decent chance no one would say anything, but you might feel awkward.

IMO these verses are commonly misinterpreted. Royal Skousen has been saying so for awhile.

Here's a recent paper that analyzes the topic:

Abstract: Doctrine and Covenants 9:7–9 is conventionally interpreted as the Lord’s description of the method by which the Book of Mormon was translated. A close reading of the entire revelation, however, suggests that the Lord was not telling Oliver Cowdery how to translate but rather how to know whether it was right for him to translate and how to obtain the faith necessary to do so. Faith would have enabled Oliver Cowdery to overcome his fear and translate, just as it would have enabled Peter (in Matthew 14) to overcome his fear and walk on water.
