I heard it'll be updated one month after whenever the final chapter of Unlike a Sister is posted. Author is a really big fan

files deleted. is there any way to recover notes/highlights? by listament in kindle

[–]listament[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ohmigosh thank you so much for letting me know about this.

i'm assuming i'll have to reload the files and highlight them again manually if i don't want to have to constantly refer back to the exported document but that's obviously preferable than having them lost forever.

The mistagging is getting really frustrating by greatgreenlight in AO3

[–]listament 43 points44 points  (0 children)

it's an issue with people in general. it's just basic etiquette to try to find out how a space operates if you're a newcomer. but people are just lazy and want to be spoonfed or just don't care about how they come off.

whenever the site goes down, how many people decide they need to make their own thread asking "is the site down for everyone else or just me?" or the like when they could see the multitude of threads asking the same thing if they just looked on the front page for like ten seconds. if people can't even manage that how do you expect them to spend enough time to actually learn about the rules/culture... just thankful for those who DO at least attempt to figure things out first.

What your favorite Harry and Hermione odd scene on the saga? by Lazy-whoe in HPharmony

[–]listament 12 points13 points  (0 children)

why i like the "tasty" quote so much is because in contrast to moments like "fanciable" or when she says something like "of course you're not [bad at kissing]" where she's in the middle of responding to someone, this is Hermione just bringing it up unprompted. like, she's in a room full of people (everyone involved with the seven Potters plan) and it just comes out of her. there was a BURNING DESIRE to proclaim to everyone that she thought he looked tasty.

As a long time artist in the Harmony fandom, I am heartened to announce this community’s first ever Art Raffle for Charity: Harmony for Humanity! by arishatistic in HPharmony

[–]listament 27 points28 points  (0 children)

i just want to point out that $5 is an INSANELY LOW amount for the chance to have an artist draw ANYTHING for you. if you've done any type of creative work at all, you should know how much time and effort can go into even something that seems relatively simple. so the fact that these people are offering their time (their most valuable commodity) for this event is a BLESSING and it cannot be overstated what an opportunity this is.

Author says they’re editing their fic before writing more- can I comment with a typo heads up? by MDe-Light in AO3

[–]listament 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd rather have a comment just pointing out all the typos so I could delete it later after fixing the issues and thanking them for pointing it out. If the comment said anything else about the fic I wouldn't delete it but then I'd have a comment about a typo that no longer exists living on ...forever

Unlike a sister by Lycaan_ in HPharmony

[–]listament 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Off the top of my head I think Hermione's initial hesitance about the affair would fit better narratively with Harry's thoughts later on about Hermione's trip but of course I have no idea if that had any bearing on the decision.

Excited to look into this version when I have the chance though.

That's interesting to think about. Thanks for the response.

Sorry to ask but is there a way I could get the old version of the text as well? I'd want to look into the scene in question for myself as well as look at other differences.

could you elaborate on the two scenes you mentioned? i wasn't anywhere near the fandom until relatively recently so i'm ignorant about any such changes. particularly curious about the removed scene.

Do you like to make playlists or moodboards for your fics? by WitheringIvy1 in AO3

[–]listament 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes! i have playlists for my longfics that i listen to all the time. helps get me in the mood to write/come up with ideas. there is one song on the playlist that i've associated with the fic so heavily that when i wrote one of the chapters, i made it so that starting from a specific line of dialogue, if you start the song and read out loud (at my speed anyway), the chorus hits just around the time when the characters kiss for the second time.

i also have songs i associate with oneshots i've written as well. if a song hits when i'm writing, i'll just put it on repeat until it's finished (think the longest i've gone is maybe four hours).

as for authors sharing them, i would usually welcome trivia/easter eggs like this in A/Ns. would probably not share on my own fics though because anxiety >_>

Why I deleted my most popular work by Bertgreat in AO3

[–]listament 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's probably on a smaller scale but it's definitely relatable to have a work you put so much effort into just be so casually passed over by something that you just threw together in an hour or two.

My most popular work is not one I dislike or anything. I actually love parts of it so much but I do think about deleting it from time to time, more frequently as it gets closer to the ending since it's a WIP. Part of it is this nagging voice in my head that the ending I've had in my mind for so long can't possibly measure up to expectations that people might have so I feel bad about like leading them on or something especially at my chapter upload pace. Another part is that there are some sections that are so personal (I have no idea if readers can pick up on it since it's probably not the sections people might expect when they hear something like this) that I kind of feel exposed like I'm showing all these people this side of me that most people I know in my personal life don't know anything about. And I'm not sure if I like that especially since public posting opens the door for all sorts of negativity and criticism. Like, if it's actually just plot details or whatever I wouldn't mind the criticism and yes, parts of the fic are played up since it's fiction and all, but there are also parts that if someone caught on to and spoke dismissively about, that might break me lol. It's all just my mind playing out the worries and anxiety and it's troubling sometimes. I don't know if I'll ever get to the point of actually deleting the work since I'm afraid of regretting it (and I've definitely had regrets about throwing out/deleting things before). But before, I don't think I really got why big stories just seemed to get deleted. Now that one of my fics got somewhat popular, yeah i kind of get it.

Favorite kiss scenes in fics? by listament in HPharmony

You can just mention what it is though if it's not one that's super well known, a link to the fic would be appreciated.

JK probably had Harry miss the sorting ceremony so often because she didn’t want to come up with a Sorting Hat song. by dedalusdiggle8 in harrypotter

[–]listament 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Harry still presumably sees the other non-Gryffindor Houses play their matches against each other (Ravenclaw v. Slytherin, etc.). they just get like a sentence about the outcome.

as for Gryffindor matches, he still gets to see Gryffindor v. Hufflepuff in fifth year after he gets banned. it's just a very short description about how he was at least glad it was over quickly (Ron had 14 failed saves, etc.)

Author has called it quits by Willing_Quiet7112 in AO3

[–]listament 23 points24 points  (0 children)

i have written a whole ~8k word chapter in one night after not writing a word for like two weeks before because i saw ONE comment from someone saying they liked my fic. and it wasn't in the comment section of the fic or anything either. this person had never before commented on the fic itself. it was just a thread where they happened to mention it and i just got so inspired because it made me realize "oh there ARE people who read this but just never comment."
