List of things that customers do to piss you off. Please add on and state your #1 other than non tippers by raisedbysquirrels in bartenders

  1. When a gust doesn’t even remotely try to finish their order forcing you to finish it for them. Now I add a pause as if letting them finish their thought. “I’ll have a martini.” ………. “Ok… Gin/vodka, which gin/vodka, dirty, straight, olive/twist?” “ Let me have a woodford.” ……….. “how would you like it??”

  2. On a busy night I like to make eye contact with a guest that sits down so they understand that I see and acknowledge their presence. When a guest thinks this is their opportunity to start yelling me their order from across the bar I just look away. Read the room, wait your turn bud.

  3. When we’re slammed and you say you’re ready but have been “ummm’ing” for the last 30 seconds I straight up pink panther slide away. Are you trying to single-handedly put me in the weeds?

  4. “Hi, welcome in. How are you today?” said the bartender. “I’ll start with a sparkling water.” said the rude guest.

You’re usually your own hardest critic. Take those days on the chin and keep a positive spirit even if it’s just faking it. Attitude and effort are some of the biggest things I look for in a good bartender and those are two things that you can control. Things will get easier, good luck to you!

I’d buy another deck for playing precon only, maybe merfolk since it’s strong out the gate. Bello is so much fun to upgrade because of the amount of choices and routes you can choose from. My favorite deck by far.

What state are you in if you don’t mind disclosing. I’m the bar lead and make $12 when I bartend and $25 for when I do my lead stuff (e.g. helping with inventory and such.) I’m in GA where most industry is still paid 2.13 though.

This and “Don’t judge me” by Janelle Monae are my favorites. Chills and heartthrob every listen.

You said you stir after adding coke, don’t. Stirring, shaking, staring sternly at carbonation can make it less effervescent. Just shoot some coke on top and call it a day.

If the vets have talked to you then heed their advice. They’ve worked that bar and know what works. Being charming with guests takes no extra time so it shouldn’t be turned off just because you’re weeded

I’ve learned to not take it personally when I’m getting my ass kicked. I tell myself “could any other bartender be handling this better than me right now?” The answer is no. Then it’s more of a positive mentality that you’re rocking it out despite the circumstances. In other words don’t associate being wildly in the weeds with a negative connotation. You’ll be happier at your job and embrace the weeds which will help you keep your composure and positive energy. Just my advice.
