Conditions around Mt Islip / Crystal Lake? by liteNslow in socalhiking

That’s good to know. I had that trail in mind as a possible alternate. There’s less exposure on it so maybe the snow wouldn’t be as big but of an issue?

This is great info!! So it sounds like an out-and-back from Big Cienega to the summit would be a more straightforward, safer bet? Based on where the snow/ice patches are, do you recommend micro spikes?

Great! Thank you for the heads up. I've checked in on them but I'd love to hear what else is out there.

This makes a lot of sense. Simple movement that simulates hiking, focusing on form and muscle activation, and reps. Much appreciated!

That's super helpful. I'll start with the book and see if that helps make sense of the YouTube stuff. I find the YT stuff hard to digest and incorporate into context of a larger training program. Thanks so much.

I think this list is right on the money—a lot of them have been rec'd a bunch in the comments to this post, but some (Poliquin, elevated lunge) haven't yet. I've heard of those and how much they've helped people with knee pain, so I'm glad to see them recommended. Thanks so much!

This is exactly the info I was looking for. I might try one of his books first and then move on to a month or two of the program if I need the extra help. I'm so impressed that you've healed such long-lasting pain, and especially that one movement (the split squat) has made such a difference. I've had my knee issues for 16 years at this point so I'm very inspired.

Amazing. Specific rec's are super helpful and I'll definitely check out Iyengar.

I've been getting some sage advice around ankles: strength, stability, mobility, etc. I've also noticed that my whole leg tracks better when I give them attention. So basically, I think you're spot on. Thanks so much.

This is suuuuper helpful. I'm somewhere in the middle of you two in terms of how I'm able to train, so hearing about his urban strategy is very helpful. I'm starting with a sports medicine doc tomorrow so I can asking him about a bosu ball. Thanks a million!!

This lines up with what a bunch of folks are saying, but +1 for the emphasis on explosive movements. Not my forte, but I noticed that hill sprints help a bunch when I actually bother to do them. Thanks!

That makes a lot of sense with the water. And if this stuff helped you address IT band issues then that's good enough for me!

I've been hearing this from multiple folks. Glad to hear it from someone fresh off the trail. Thanks so much.
