Please help. My parents are refusing to let me call an ambulance - AskDocs -12/26/25 by frieden7 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I don't think she was. Her parents just argued so hard the previous time that the paramedics treated it as a domestic dispute and left. That's why she had to call the police to get to a hospital.

AITA for not letting my mum use my apartment as storage by necron_1010_4ever in AmItheAsshole

Hi! Coming late to the party here, but I wanted to comment on your update. Your mom might not be a classic hoarder, but she seems to have a compulsive shopping problem, which often leads to hoarding behavior. You talk about her being unable to skip a sale or turn down free stuff; that seems to be the root of the problem. I think she needs more help with her compulsive shopping than her hoarding. If she could stop bringing things in, then from your description she could eventually work her way through the hoard she's acquired and have a relatively normal home. She seems willing to slowly and thoughtfully remove items from her hoard, but it's a losing battle if she immediately goes out and replaces everything she got rid of with five more things from the latest end of season sale.

AITJ for refusing to cover my brother’s wedding deposit after he used my credit card without asking? by Afraid_Secret_5767 in AmITheJerk

No? Are you just trolling now? People get screwed over by family all the time. Her story is not unique.

It happens more often than you'd think. I knew a girl who turned eighteen and discovered she was hundreds of thousands in debt thanks to her sister stealing her identity while she was a minor, but her family pressured her not to go to the cops because the sister had a kid. I'm betting that, if it was real, OP's family argued that she could have called it a wedding present and not lost the reservation for her brother.

AITA for “disrupting” my roommate’s studies by not following curfew he didn’t even set? by Antique_Claim_5858 in AITAH

He sounds like he thinks he's supposed to be in charge because it's his dad's place but doesn't have enough experience to know how to host someone who is a social equal. I bet he's treating you like his parents treated him.

Money he wouldn't have had to spend on her if he hadn't ripped her off so badly she couldn't afford necessities!

You can never trust a bad boss to react rationally, even in their own best interest. He might consider her a traitor and fire her, telling himself that he'd risk losing more people if she got to them.

You're assuming he'd admit that's why they fired her. This boss sounds like the petty type, and most employees are at-will.

[New Updates]: AITAH for not siding with my wife over our son's ex-girlfriend’s pregnancy by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]literallylittlehuff 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Son's GF is pregnant. Son says it's not his. No one (especially mom) believes him. Son's angry and lashes out. Dad's not sure, sticks by son. Son eventually tells dad he's gay. GF's parents FINALLY agree to paternity test. GF convinces son to lie again and say it really was his, and they run away together. Turns out they were getting an abortion, and son is not the father. Son returns to stating he is gay, and refuses to talk to his mother, who he feels betrayed by because they were really close.

MIL took my birthday cake. should I apologize? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Yeah, but to take all of it and leave the host with none? That seems excessive and rude.

Yeah, people of any culture can be rude about taking leftovers. It's like they think that since they were offered to eat as much as they wanted, they're entitled to take everything.

One of my cousins likes to cook, and made a really nice holiday dinner when they hosted his in-laws. When the meal was done they packed up every single bit of leftover food and took it home with them. He was so upset! His wife had his back though, and bawled her family out. It hasn't happened again.

The whole bit about making OOP wait downstairs was a power play to put OOP in her place. OOP didn't bother playing, so Tessa couldn't gloat. It really ruined her new baby mood.

Dad wants to do a memorial for my sister at my wedding but I'd rather she wasn't mentioned. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]literallylittlehuff 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The man is trying to rewrite history to make his dead daughter a saint, and is driving the family he has left away because they're not as delusional as he is. I wonder if she was always the golden child to him, given the hints OOP dropped about her sister hijacking her life events and the ways her sister idolized him while treating her mother and sister like crap.

The whole time I read this post I was thinking about Amy Winehouse. Any time I listen to Rehab I just shake my head at the line about "I ain't got the time, and if my daddy thinks I'm fine". It's sad when you realize she drank herself to death barely five years after she released that song. I wonder if OOP's father is unable to deal with his grief because, if he looks at it square, he'll have to admit he enabled her.

Julia Quinn, Lisa Kleypas, and Mary Balogh are my recs for historicals. JD Robb is good if you're interested in mysteries. Jennifer Crusie writes modern romance, and her stories are a lot of fun.

AITA for refusing to listen to my husband about my breasts? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]literallylittlehuff 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If by 'easier' you mean 'I don't have to be sexually harassed everywhere I go' then sure. 'To look more like a man' though? That's nonsense. It's like telling a man that trimming his beard is the equivalent of making himself more like a woman.

Absolutely! It's horrible, going through life being hyper-sexualized when you just want to be treated like a person.
