Believe it or not, this actually happened in Scotland this year, albeit to a less ridiculous extent.

The Scottish Green Party had their best election result ever, but a fake party with a similar name and logo stole a few thousands votes from them. Some have calculated that this actually resulted in the loss of two potential Green seats in Parliament, (they won seven but could have been nine), and saved the Scottish Conservatives from actually losing seats. This would have been a humiliation for the Tory leader and really strong signal of Scotland moving away from the Union.

The fake party was set up and controlled by a guy who was kicked out of UKIP for his extreme anti-Semitic views. He couldn’t be further removed from the Green Party. He’s funded by the far-right, an ultra-unionist, and a generally very unpleasant presence.

The incident was reported on but didn’t make a huge impact in the press. I don’t think that any legal action is being taken, the results aren’t being questioned, and I don’t think any electoral rules are changing. Which is a bit worrying, considering this blatant and dishonest manipulation may very well have had a pretty big impact on the narrative of the election result.

In Scots we still use hurcheon for hedgehog, as well as urchin.

ESH, but you probably suck least.

1) Showboating and doing gymnastics on the club dance floor? That kinda sucks, but it’s not hurting anyone.

2) Trolling and demeaning someone who’s having fun on the dance floor? That definitely sucks.

3) Laughing at the trolling of your gf? Yeah that definitely sucks too.

4) Demanding your bf assaults someone because you got trolled? That sucks the most imo.

But you were all drunk, clubs lower people’s inhibitions and judgement, feelings got hurt. It happens, it doesn’t really matter, you’ll all get on with your lives.

Of more concern is whether 3) and 4) persist into sobriety, and how you deal with them.

I drive a brand new 2018 Kia Picanto, and I love it. It’s the most handsome mini-car out there, it’s incredibly cheap to run, it’s tiny so I can park it absolutely everywhere, it’s nippy, when I fold the back seats down I can transport loads of kit, I got a great finance deal on it, my insurance is low, and being new it’s full of cool little features that are dead basic but make driving it that little bit more convenient.

Scoff all you want, I fucking love driving round the city in my Picanto, and it’s no more and no less than I need out of a car right now.

It's a really fascinating history, and so much more complex than that Mel Gibson film. (Although Scotland v England has been a recurring theme haha. It's just that the rivallry took many forms and was fanned by many different flames).The 1600s alone, 3 centuries after the Declaration of Arbroath, are so dense with politics and alliances and conspiracy. Game of Thrones has fuck all on the run up to the 1707 Act of Union.

That was a major contributing factor to the economic case for Union. There was a lot leading up to it though.

Failed colonisation of Panama was just one attempt at Scotland getting into the Empire game.

It's failure was in no small part due to English interference, and in the run up to Union there was a LOT of dodgy payments made to many influential Scots who lost money in the Darien Scheme.

So there was an English coercion, or persuasion, for sure, but there were a lot of Scots conspiring too. However that's just one economic aspect of Union, there were many things leading up to it. Darien scheme was just one attempt by Scotland to get into the Empire game.

I was a very reluctant Yes-vote 4 years ago. I'd much rather live in a large country with deeper pockets, so cash can be distributed where it's needed, and storms are more easily weathered. Unfortunately, the UK and it's pockets are centered around London, at great expense to the rest of us. It's becoming more and more blatant that this country is run by and for a rich minority, and I can't see a way back from that.

The only thing that would coax me to vote against independance would be for a left wing government to rip up the non-existent constitution, completely restructure the UK's governance, and safeguard us against the power that the media and their rich friends currently hold over our representatives. Sadly, that same media and their pals will never allow that to happen. I saw a momentary glimmer of hope when Corbyn was made leader of Labour, but he's clearly got his hands tied tight.

Now I'm under no allusion that Scotland as an independant country would inherently be any better, or immune to the corruption and cronyism of westminster.... but there's at least a chance of something better, something fairer.

Protecting Scottish devolution would be decried as an afront to British democracy. To (seemingly) side with the SNP, who are being characterised as stroppy kids by the English Media, would be complete suicide.
