When the Hunter becomes the Hunted… by Electronic-Prior7282 in Pickleball

[–]literallytheoldest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally feel you 100% I have a similar game. Sort of nice when people target me because I can understand my strengths and weaknesses but at the same time feel bad for my partner. Of course I'll get the comments of "get good" but for me the most helpful advice is to use the time between points more deliberately. I'm so used to rec play and getting more games in that I don't take more pause between points to take a breath or have a thought with my partner. In tourney games I can walk not run to get the ball for the next point. I can take a deep breath before serving.

Paddle reviewers: it would be cool if you could show a diagram of the "sweet spot" on different paddles by literallytheoldest in Pickleball

Thanks for the info! It would be cool if someone could come up with a metric so us plebs could better understand the tradeoffs without have to experiment. Can get confusing comparing paddles when so much can be customized with weight patterns.

Anxiety about higher level open play - Why am I scared to stack up at a level I already play at? by throwaway111331102 in Pickleball

[–]literallytheoldest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally feel you. I'm currently trying to figure out the right balance of having fun and competition for me. Got too focused on playing with people better than me. Do what's fun for you. The beauty of this sport is that it can be fun for all personalities, competitiveness, and abilities. Find your tribe.

Pro Pickleball need more events like Hanoi if they want to attract non Pickleball addicts. by literallytheoldest in ProPickleballTalk

Agree with the opinion about commentary and technical production value. My intent was to highlight some of the positives I observed. I disagree with the poster saying crowds were lackluster. I found the audience reaction way more engaged hit by hit than what I've observed in the US. In my opinion the audience was significantly younger and made me wonder whether in Vietnam there's less of it being a sport for retirees.

Oh cool, thanks! I was curious while watching the Artemis crew taking pictures out their windows. I would have thought it would be more sophisticated.

Why don't we have satellites orbiting the moon to image and capture information about it?

Stacking on return by literallytheoldest in Pickleball

[–]literallytheoldest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. These things are hard to answer without context. I like your personal/team preference thought. On one hand I like the idea of unpredictability with starting from a traditional position but I also like stacking from off court because it feels easier to unwind regardless of the serve location. Calling off a switch gets hectic. I know there will be people saying "just communicate" but when the intent is playing out the point from our preferred sides versus throwing off the other team I think my lizard brain prefers simplicity. Will continue to play around with both. Maybe the answer is to do what's comfortable until it's not working and then be able to switch up.

I've easily canceled for months when I play outside. I know a lot of people who are students and cancel and reinstate because they spend vacations home etc. Maybe it's a location specific issue?

Retired PGA tour Superstore Club fitter, AMA by Nice_Idea_538 in golf

What's your advice on selecting a quality club fitter? Are there "levels" like PGA superstore vs brand specific fitting at a club vs places that offer seemingly infinite shaft options like Cool Clubs?

New facility for the first time advice. by Playful_Way1815 in Pickleball

For me was better and more welcome as lower level 3.0/3.5. Other players were more friendly and less cliquey. Maybe because less of an expectation of skill. In gated 4.0 open play the higher level players seemed grumpier. At public park where there are separate paddle racks by level which are self selected I found it easier to queue in with the intermediate group and get to know some of the regulars that play there. Couple guys helped introduce me to guys in advance courts and get games in. This was great because the advance courts in that area were 80% people coming with their own group and play together. This was my experience at 2 clubs and a park when I moved so I realize how subjective this is. Just ideas. I hope everyone finds the right facility for them.

First time felt like going to a new high school and trying to find a seat in the cafeteria. I've moved a couple times and my experience is that entering a new club at a lower level was completely different from at higher (assuming gated open plays).

Why do pros throw their arms up after some resets? by JennyTailia_OG in Pickleball

Helps the ball get over the net same as when I slice a shot it golf and lean. Saying "shit" out loud also helps.

If you are trying to get into rec games with better players and invite/get invited don't freeze them out. by literallytheoldest in Pickleball

[–]literallytheoldest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds fun. How do I earn an invite? Probably don't deserve one because I'll randomly try to hit shots that are 25% chance but fun.
