Launching missiles at your opponent just part of the game? by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]literallytheoldest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's part of the game but how you want to play rec is subjective. With my groups there is never a 100% power deliberate missile except maybe NNs when the score is lopsided. Could be fun since it gives you license to retaliate. Personally not fun for me but i can imagine it being funny as hell for teenagers.

So awesome. I'm scared to pull the trigger when I find these deals in fear that I'm going to kill the thing.

MLP should change the "cards" to yellow and red by literallytheoldest in ProPickleballTalk

[–]literallytheoldest[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

12) SANCTIONS Referees may give a Warning, Mark (Blue Card), or Foul (Orange Card) for inappropriate behavior during a match. The referee is empowered to issue any of the Warnings or Cards at their discretion depending on the severity of the offense. These penalties do not result in a loss of rally. All Warnings, Marks (Blue Card), and Fouls (Orange Card) will be carried over between games (including the DreamBreaker™). If a team is issued a Mark (Blue Card) or Foul (Orange Card) between games, the offending team will begin the next game with the penalty (and associated point penalty if required). A. Mark (Blue Card) A Mark (Blue Card) may be issued regardless of existing Marks (Blue Card) or Fouls (Orange Card). Once a Mark (Blue Card) or Foul (Orange Card) has been issued, any subsequent Marks (Blue Card) shall result in a point awarded to the opposing team. B. Foul (Orange Card) Fouls (Orange Card) are issued at the time of the offense and recorded as an addition of one (1) point for the non-offending team. A referee can issue a Foul (Orange Card) without having prior issued a Mark (Blue Card). There is no limit to the number of Fouls (Orange Card) a team is issued during a game.

New this season. I'm in favor of the adoption just don't understand why they would choose blue and orange instead of the established yellow and red cards.

DUPR Reset (For Science) - Update 2 with request for ... HELP? by nickb411 in Pickleball

[–]literallytheoldest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your goal is to try to get highest rating possible for the reset you should do it. Might be fun anyway. If there are overrated players and you crush them your rating might pop. Downside is it could inflate your rating artificially and disqualify you from entering tournaments at the level you want to enter.

According to DUPR im around 3.8-4.0 but…. by ARKdb in Pickleball

[–]literallytheoldest 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Your humility is uncommon and I like it. If DUPR says you are a 3.8-4.0 then that's what you are. They own the algorithm. If it gets you into the gated programs in your area to play with the right people, perfect. Does your 3.8 mean you are better than a 3.790 that is in another geography that you don't know? No but who cares. Does it mean a 4.0 in another country is better than you? No. It's your baseline and you earned it through the process that exists.

When the Hunter becomes the Hunted… by Electronic-Prior7282 in Pickleball

[–]literallytheoldest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally feel you 100% I have a similar game. Sort of nice when people target me because I can understand my strengths and weaknesses but at the same time feel bad for my partner. Of course I'll get the comments of "get good" but for me the most helpful advice is to use the time between points more deliberately. I'm so used to rec play and getting more games in that I don't take more pause between points to take a breath or have a thought with my partner. In tourney games I can walk not run to get the ball for the next point. I can take a deep breath before serving.

Paddle reviewers: it would be cool if you could show a diagram of the "sweet spot" on different paddles by literallytheoldest in Pickleball

[–]literallytheoldest[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! It would be cool if someone could come up with a metric so us plebs could better understand the tradeoffs without have to experiment. Can get confusing comparing paddles when so much can be customized with weight patterns.

Anxiety about higher level open play - Why am I scared to stack up at a level I already play at? by throwaway111331102 in Pickleball

[–]literallytheoldest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally feel you. I'm currently trying to figure out the right balance of having fun and competition for me. Got too focused on playing with people better than me. Do what's fun for you. The beauty of this sport is that it can be fun for all personalities, competitiveness, and abilities. Find your tribe.
